Default about the alcoholism

i've read favreau's quote on it, but when he says "laying the groundworks"... im just hoping there's at least a couple of lines in the first iron man movie about stark's drinking habits. to me, it was the most compelling part of reading the iron man comic books

they'll probably have him doing a bit of drinking in it, not so much that it really registers as alcoholism, but enough that you notice it

Exclamation Re: about the alcoholism

The very fact that Favreau only intends to imply in the first movie that Tony will later have a drinking problem, because Tony only developed a drinking problem later in the comics, shows to me that Favreau has deeply analized Tony Stark's character and that whatever decisions he makes will make for a better film.

as long as the implications are there, im fine.

check out what themovieblog said:

"I don't like this news at all. Director Jon Favreau has said in a recent interview with MTV that they're NOT going to have Tony Stark at an alcoholic in the Iron Man film. Bad move.

To me, without that aspect of Stark that makes him so human, so flawed, the story looses any sense of real depth. I'm not a big Iron Man fan, but that aspect of his character makes him interesting. Here's an excerpt from the good folks over at Dark Horizons:

"The alcoholism doesn't come into play until later on in the story of Iron Man. [The comic] started off in the '60s, where it was about him as a successful manufacturer who developed this suit.
HUGE mistake. So what we're left with is a super rich guy, who runs a billion dollar corporation, and he uses his wealth to finance cool stuff that he uses to fight crime? Hmmm... where have I heard that before??? Oh yeah... BAT-****ING-MAN. Come on Jon! Give your head a shake! Don't take out the element that gives this guy real depth. PLEASE! it's not too late!"

All I'm hoping for is one heartbreaking scene depicting Tony sitting alone, in the armor (without the helmet) and just downing a huge glass of alchohol.

We don't need tony to be a raging alcoholic to be humanized. This is a guy who was a POW, who has to wear a chestplate to stay ALIVE. who has burdens of a company along with trying to save the world. He's no superman, here.

I think what people fail to realize, people like JDym, that without the armor Tony can't survive.

Do you know what that makes Tony? He's handicapped, he's an invalid. He needs a machine to keep his heart beating.

That's more than just a rich guy using technology to fight crime.

Get over it. The alcholism didn't come in until years later.

Sure I bet he'll have a drink or two, and be a bit of a social drinker.

But an alcoholism in the FIRST ORIGIN MOVIE only bogs down what will already be a crowded story.

Your only supporting my point. We know this is a franchise, and therefore, we know that Iron Man is going to survive despite the threat of having to depend on the plate.

All I'm saying is that one of the most interesting things to me in regards to Iron Man is the alcoholism. I never said I was looking for Leaving Las Vegas, folks.

We know he's going to survive alcoholism as well then.

That's a story that should be separate from the origin. It's that simple.
