Default What's the last comicbook movie you watched?

And when was it? Any publisher, any format. Must actually be based on a comicbook. TV show episodes don't count. Animated movies like Ultimate Avengers & Mask of the Phantasm, do.

Watched Hulk today. Always impresses me, but it was completely the wrong film for the target audience. The action scenes are not exciting enough, the Hulk never feels in danger.

The only part in the movie that actually feels like the Hulk is the epilogue in South America. It's so perfect, the whole movie should have been that way. Not that I don't like the existing movie, but it's the wrong movie.

I sometimes find myself wondering, had the movie been released another time of year, would the reception have been different?

Batman Returns on Saturday night.

Never fails to impress me. It's Burton at the very top of his creative peak.

Yeah. Or if the audience knew they were seeing a sombre, character-driven sci-fi drama.

I don't see a distinction. You release a movie on June 23rd w/the name of a well-known comic book charcter on the marquee, people are by & large gonna expect an action movie.
One funny thing that was pointed out to me, is that even the TV show was, for its time, a sombre, character-driven drama. The show wasn't about the Hulk; it was about David trying to find some semblance of a normal life.

The Crow when it was on TV like two weeks ago.

Such a great movie, shame it's talked about so rarely.

Batman Returns.
Entirely too Gothic for my tastes, but Max Shreck is a hell of a villain. Michelle Pfeiffer's performance as Catwoman = the best Batman villain yet (counting Begins).
It has some great quotes:
"Eat floor. High fiber."
"Bruce Wayne? Why are you dressed as Batman?"
"Bottom line: she tries to blackmail me, I'll throw her out a higher window."
"Security? Who let Vicki Vale into the Batcave? I'm sitting there working; I turn around, there she is. 'Oh hi, Vick - come on in.'"

Yeah, but the Hulk trailers and advertising screamed, "Huge action movie!"

Very, very true. Universal did a horrendous job of marketing the movie; they were selling a product that Ang Lee wasn't making. But I think the marketing & the time frame kind of went hand in hand.

The best and only true superhero comicbook movie: Spiderman 2.

I get giddy just watching the trailer for SPM3.

A movie done by a fanboy, for fanboys.

In a world full of comicbook films driven by director egos, board room and Hollywood politics, thank God for Sam Raimi.

Much as I loved Spider-Man 2, a lot of people would disagree with you. And not just the ones who hate the Spidey films. Mark Steven Johnson is a fanboy, & you'd be hard pressed to find more than 10 people who'll say they liked "Daredevil".
