More than that. Otis, Otisburg, Basically all the countries invented by Lex and Otis, the tin-foil Krypton costumes, young Clark all of a sudden becoming a flying Superman, "Can You Read My Mind?" scene, and even Superman's bright costume all seemed corny for my standards. Also I could point out quite a few very corny lines in the movie such as "Don't thank me officer, we're all on the same team" and "Don't look...just fly...something came up, I ain't telling what it is...just fly." That second line was more corny than it looks since the pilot sounded like a typical radio broadcaster from the 60's.

There's nothing wrong with some comedy in a Superman movie. There's plenty of serious moments to balance it all out.

And so what if the Krytpon costumes are made of tin foil or whatever? Big deal. Most of the time Superman's costume is made of spandex. Is tinfoil somehow less campy than spandex or something? lol It's not like it was plainly obvious.. and if I'm not mistaken, that's not tinfoil, that's some sortof reflective material.

What I say is, as long as the movie isn't making fun of the subject matter, I'm fine with it. It doesn't have to be dead serious all the time. Lighten up.

Agreed to an extent. It did work in SUPERMAN, though -- love this flick...

First off corny isn't the same thing as comedy. Most of the things I mentioned in my post were serious parts of the movie. And the tin-foil costumes were far from my biggest gripe with the movie, its just that they are indeed corny looking.

And I never said the movie was bad, I even said I liked it. Its just that its corny moments made me like the film less than SR. I see nothing wrong with that.

3 & 4 didnt have a hero that left for five years or a stupid kid. They may not be good movies but they are good superman movies because they capture the true spirit of superman. Singerman did not!

Superman has "left" for extended periods of time before in the comics. Multiple times, in fact.

And there's now a kid in the comics.

Are you sure this "true spirit of Superman" of yours actually exists?

Yeah, all that stuff happened after Metropolis was introduced. Before that, the movie was almost 100% serious and was perfect in my eyes.

Really, I think the worst area of camp in STM was with Luthor and Otis. I think if Luthor and his cronies had remained somewhat ominous (like, say, they were in SR), it would've kept Superman with a legitimate threat and evil opposition and would've allowed for Superman, and Clark, and Jimmy to be campy without bringing the movie down to any large extent.

The newest issue of Action Comics features a Kyptonese-speaking child who crash lands in some short of space capsule in Metropolis. Who (and whose) he is hasn't been revealed yet.

Oh, I didn't realize there was a 'brilliant' SUperman Returns. The one I saw was a piece of crap.

in order

Superman The Movie
Superman II
Superman IV
Superman III

then way down at the bottom with lots of room for other films

Superman Returns.

He was cowardly when he chose not to be honest with Lois about leaving Earth for 5 years. He was afraid of being 'hurt,' so he said nothing and instead hurt the person he's supposed to love. That is cowardly, instead of doing what was right and facing his own fear, he took the easy way out. Cowardly.

Quote:
Yeah he feels lonely;that's straight from the comics.
It's been a long time since the comics have used that scenario. He's been married to Lois in the comics for nearly 10 years now, or is it longer? That 'lonely' bit was back in the 60's and it played out very differently than in SR.

Quote:
Forgetting his responsiblities, It's ok to be on Earth without your powers(ala Supes II), but it's not ok to go looking for your home?
No it's not Ok to be on earth w/o your powers ala SUperman II. That was the whole point of the ending. He already learned that lesson and promised the president that he would never do it again.

Quote:
You have to know your a father to be an absentee father.
Wrong. Plenty of people are irresponsible with their reproductive material and father children they don't know about. Just because they don't know and were irresposible does not absolve them of their responsibility or moral obligation.

Quote:
Why do people think Lois and Supes won't be together at the end of the trilogy? That's like Romeo and Juliet not dying.
At this point anyway you get them together will be wrong.

1. Richard dies= cop out.
2. Richard and Lois break up= bad for the kid, Richard is the father he's known, and Superman can never replace him. HOw sad, Superman can never be the true father to his own son.
3. Jason dies, Lois and Richard break up= why even make SR.
4. Lois leaves Richard for Superman= Lois is selfish and can't see what is best for her child and is being completely unfair to Richard.

The basic concept of IV with the Quest for Peace is very admirable and III just doesn't have anything like that to wash the bad Richard Pryor villain storyline out of you mouth. I do like the Lana bits, but I still prefer IV.

Well, it certainly isn't SUperman's. I don't think the kid will make it out of the arc alive, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's a plant. (not like a vegetable, but a trick)
