Default Bryan Singer Vs Ang Lee

Who do you think has ruined a potentially unbeatable comic book adaption more?

Ang Lee or Bryan Singer?

Wow that was one of the most ignorant comments I've read in awhile.
I loved Hulk and Superman returns. So I don't think any of the directors
ruined the comic book. i thought they were great movies.

just because the movies didn't make much doesn't mean they ruined the adaptation (spell it right).

if you make a great adaptation without the intention of even selling it at all, just because you don't get any money from it doesn't make it a poor adaptation.

no comparison, bryan loved supes and this films was his dream,he didnt compromise that dream and mainstrem audineces found the film boring.I bet as kid bryan saw supes 3 and thought "this isnt how its supposed to be" and thought up the films we all saw.It just wasnt big enough you know? but it was a superman film from a diehard superman fan and it shows through.ANG LEE IS A SON OF A ***** who didnt know what he was doing and id love to mess him up for what he did.As for bryan I only hold x3 against him,he should have been there for his first big film/films the third time but if i were to be offerd hulk and had just done two great xmen films i think i would go to hulk.

Good question, partypooper...hmmm, I think I'd say Ang Lee screwed up a tiny bit more than Bryan Singer, since they are ALREADY talking about restarting the Hulk franchise.

We'll have to see how Superman Returns floats in the B.O. I think it'll make good money, but not nearly as much as they expected. And the critics seem to like this one more than they liked Hulk, so it seems this film has the edge.

But, I'd rather neither of these directors ever touch a comic book film again.

Good question. Both took their own vision and injected it in to cool characters that didn't need to deviate from the source material. Singer thought the original Superman film was the material he needed to mirror instead of Supes' rich comic history. Ang changed the origin, added Hulk poodles and a useless father character. I don't know what's worse. Being unoriginal and ripping off other people's work from the 1970's or being too original and creating awful material? Regardless, they both managed to deliver poorly paced films.

The Hulk delivered 30 minutes of fun wrapped in bizarre Ang Lee babble.

SR delivered 5 minutes of fun wrapped around a silly unoriginal plot.

I vote Singer screwed up more but it's close.

I don't even know why this thread was created. As much as SR has it's flaws, it should in no way be compared to Ang Lee's adaption of The Hulk.

I'll say Ang Lee, because even though I haven't seen Superman Returns it can't be that bad.

Bryan Singer, at least Ang Lee's Hulk movie had good action scenes.

Superman Returns is by far the most homoerotic superhero movie Ive ever seen. I didnt know if I was watching a Superman movie or a softcore gay porn with a man in a superman outfit. At least ang lee didnt try to force his sexuality upon us. When Superman got beat up on new krypton I didnt know if Lex Luthor was going to stab him or start making out with him. Were those 3 guys beating him up or gang banging him? I couldnt tell. Bryan Singer needs to keep his no-so-subtle gay references to himself and not put them in his movies.

Ang Lee and Bryan Singer actually brought new life to both of their respective characters.

Rois Rane?

I wouldn't go as far as saying ruined. I liked the hulk but recognize it really pounds you over the head with its overly serious tone as if it's bound to win an award or something, sucking the fun out of it in the process...

I get the same feeling from returns, but even more. Take that as you will.

Sad thing is he has posted it in at least two threads already...I hope he gets probation or banned for that post. Uncalled for IMO.

WTF?!

As far as I know it as a "fresh" rating on RottenTomatoes.

About 50% of the people who voted gave the movie 9 & 10 rating.

Screwed it up? How? Just because a minority of people didn't like it?

In what instance have either of those franchises been ruined?
I liked both films...or all of the films if you are counting the X-films. You didn't specify.

It's reasons like this, that comic films decline in quality over time. Why? *****ing by ungrateful fans. Oh I'm horribly sorry it wasn't mad just as you liked it. You know what, then write a script, buy a studio, and direct the movie. Then it can be made just like you want it. Superman Returns for me was probably the greatest comic to film adaption I have ever ****ing seen. You know what, if Superman: The Movie were released to day this thread would be "who's worse Ang Lee or Richard Donner".

I don't expect everyone to like a god dammed movie. But try to be intelligent about it. Or you know what all those so called normal folk we talk about and say they're the closed minded idiots that make fun of us for liking comics, maybe they're right. Maybe they're right.

And I'm sorry if it didn't make 400 mil in a 2 hour time period. I'm sure as hell WB ain't panicking right now. So calm down.

I find a must agree with my POed partner in posting.

Most of the criticisms that have been directed at SR are more fan-gripes than actual criticism of SR as a film. Hulk, in most people's opinions, suffered as a film from Ang Lee's direction, and thusly it's in a completely different category than SR. IMO, at least. Not to mention, so far, both the critical reaction (from both the professionals and the normies) have been quite a bit more favorable for SR than it was for Hulk.

The only place you may be able to compare the two is box office. But it's still too early to make many predictions on that. If SR is gifted with BB's legs, we won't even be having this conversation a few months from now.

Stupid poll. Superman Returns was amazing, Hulk bored me. I tried to like Hulk, I really did. I was just bored. No fanboy gripes about his dad doing testing on him or him being too big. I just found the movie to be poorly made. Wasn't a fan of that comic-book editing style either.

Superman Returns, on the other hand, is the opposite for me. I love the movie, and my only, minor criticisms of it come from my inner fanboy, partially wishing it had been a more post-crisis story.
