So now that DC has Superman Returns under its belt, who's next? My guess is probably Wonder Woman as they've been talking about making a movie about her for quite sometime. I mean come on.. Who wouldn't see a Wonder Woman movie?
I haven't heard anything definite though. All I've heard are rumors about the other DC movies. Has there been any recent news or development? |

Wonder Woman has a writer/director hired in Joss Whedon and is currently in the script-writing stage. The release is tentatively set for sometime in 2008.
The Flash is also in the script-writing stage. This one headed by David Goyer as the writer/director. No idea when that will release.

I also heard they had a Captain Marvel movie in the pipeline, with director Peter Segal or someone attached to direct it.
Speaking of Wonder Woman, if they ever get her movie off the ground and it succeeds enough for sequels, do you think they should incorporate the storyline of Hippolyta's machinations that unintentionally led to Diana's death, which in turn led to Diana becoming the Goddess of Truth while Hippolyta was "punished" by replacing her daughter as Wonder Woman, and ultimately resulting in Hippolyta's death after Diana returns, etc? Or would that be too heavy for mainstream audiences? |

I think that Hippolyta's mistakes should come back to haunt WW, I think that's a big theme for many women--their mother's mistakes. However, I'm not sure it should be the focus of the trilogy rather than a subplot. I'm also not sure we should do the 'death and return' thing. Catwoman did it poorly, Elektra worse so. It is an excellent metaphor for the rebirth a woman has when she's "empowered," but cinematically, it makes many other things anti-climactic and, surprise, takes away the seriousness of death. I would advise against it.
I, honestly, would concentrate more on the paradox of fighting for peace, the quest of a woman to guide the gods and the ingenuity a woman can use to overcome foes with something other than pure raw power, which she has plenty of. Those are the themes and storylines I would revolve around. Ares would play a key role, Circe would have plenty to say, and all the gods of Olympus would have their day. Just my two cents. Also, THANK YOU for this not being a casting thread! |
