Default Best Rock Bassist

Since we've already covered the discussioon of who's the best lead singer, guitarist and drummer, there's only one poll left:

Out of these choices, who is the best rock bassist?

For me, there's only one choice:

JOHN ENTWISTLE

He was the first man to make the bass a truly prominent instrument in rock and roll, he created the greatest bass solo of all time in "My Generation", and he quite simply puts all other bass players to shame (the only one who comes close is John Paul Jones).

Who's your pick?

No love for Jaco, eh? How about Billy Sheehan, then? Les Claypool probably deserves a shout-out, too.

Well, you see you're limited to 25 (personally, I think we should go up to 30, but it's not my call), so you have to find the 25 Most Iconic (re: popular ones). I pretty much feel like I got all the most influential ones. Claypool, Sheehan and Bruce I'm kicking myself about though.

Still it's not as bad as leaving Townshend off a "Best Guitarist" poll. That's a travesty.

But yeah, I left some good ones off.

Yeah, in his days with the Police, Sting definitely was pretty good. Pastorious always gets overlooked. Probably because he died so young. Check out some of Billy Sheehan's solo stuff. I think you'll dig it if you're a bass player.
