So, anyone buy it? What do you think of it? I thought it was a great first issue, Brian K Vaughn really is a great writer.
It sucks its only going on for 6 issues.

I thought it was great when I originally read it 6 months ago
this is a reprint of a story begun in the normal Escapist anthology series. That book is supposed to be quarterly but I guess something's up with it since a new one hasn't come out in ages and now they've switched over to this single issue format with just BKV's story

no, no
The Escapist is a fictional Golden Age character created in the book The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, about two jewish comic creators in the 1940s who create a character named The Escapist. A couple years ago they decided to do some actual Escapist stories and gave him an anthology book called The Amazing Adventures of The Escapist. The series was an oversized anthology, each issue being something like 96 pages with three different stories in it by a bunch of different creators. The last issue I recall coming out was issue #8, which had the story you read this week as it's lead story (along with two other shorter ones, one by Harvey Pekar). I don't know what happened to the series or issue #9, as #8 came out some months ago. If I had to guess they were have some problems getting the material for the anthology, or production costs were too high and sales were too low, or something. But the story BKV wrote needed to be continued, or maybe they had the material to continue it but nothing else for the anthology, so they switched formats to tell BKV's story in it's own regular sized mini. The first issue was a reprint of what originally appeared in the #8 anthology, the following parts of the story have not been seen yet.

Pick it up. If enough people buy it it may turn into one.

I bought it. I never read anything on the Escapist before, so even if this was just a reprint, it was the new to me. Loved it of course. Glad I picked it up.

The Escapist is a very interesting and unique concept in that stands out among the other superhero concepts that's come out since 2000. I'm enthusiastic about this character thriving and going on to have it's own long-running series. One thing about the Escapist that's unique is his ability to be in everyone. Although Tom Mayflower is the poster boy for the Escapist, he is not the only interpretation of the character. Thus, the Escapist can be drawn black, Asian, hispanic, Native American, etc., in varying situations and obstacles as long as he's able to break free and assert the ideals of Escapism and the League of the Golden Key: "To all those who toils in the bonds of slavery and oppression, he offers the hope of liberation and the promise of freedom! Armed with superb physical and mental training, a crack team of assistants, and ancient wisdom, he roams the globe, performing amazing feats and coming to the aid of those who languish in tyranny's chains! He is --- the Escapist!"
Those are truly inspiring words of liberation. |

Honestly, has the guy written a bad comic book in his career?

before he hit it big, he had lots of little small assignments across a bunch of titles, and a few miniseries, and I'm pretty sure they weren't all winners
