Default Academic study tips.

I have a customer who is returning to school after being out of school for about 10 years and wants some study tips to maximize the chance of her success.

So, if you're a reasonably successful student, what methods or tricks do you use to get the good grades.

A few I'm aware of includes:

1. Read the textbook prior to class so the professor's or teacher's lecture is like a mini review onto itself.

2. WHen you're taking notes, draw a line down the middle of your sheet so that you have two halves. On one side, write your notes that you acquire in class and use the other half as a reserve so that you can fill in additional information from the text or from the professor if he adds new information.

3. As unfun as this might be, read the next semester's textbooks during the summer or christmas break so that you have a passing familiarity of the course before the first day of class.

Any others?

Do all of your homework. Don't leave any **** blank. At least your teacher thinks that you put effort into it. Just bull**** your way through school.
Raise your hand and put a bunch of facts in your answer to make your teacher know that you know. Because if you know the info but your teacher doesn't know that, your assingments won't be graded with leniency.

Buy one of the headbands the Japanese kids wear with slogans like "I will Succeed" and "I will not fail my family".

It seems to work for them

Buy a daily planner. I was ****ed over in school mostly because I forgot the ****. Daily planner made my senior year practically perfect, too bad it took me 11 years to catch on to that nifty little thing.

Actually its a good idea, even if you're taking notes, to kit out your ipod with a microphone and use it to record the lecture. I found this was the best way to make sure you miss nothing. Sometimes when you are noting one thing you miss somehting just as important. Its also a good idea when it comes to it to write your notes up ointo a sort of best format, so the when you come to revise your not looking at notes scribbled on bits of paper but neat concise useful documentation.

Since she's going back to school she should take a small audio recorder so that she could record the professors lectures and here a few other things that might be useful...

1. Ask questions, stay involved within class discussions don't try to be shy by keeping yourself in a corner.

2. Do all the assignments that has been assigned even though it may not be required to do so.

3. Set out a schedule to study. Since she hasn't been to school for a while this will help her get into a rythm.

i always sat back relaxed and then did what ever they asked of me. when relaxed i could remember things. so that in exams i was relaxed aswell. but that might just work for me. i think about things as they are said. keeping my brain active while learning. so that in exam time. i can recall and think simultaneously. so one thought flows to the next uninterupted. in a quite environment i will write things down. since that is like an exam as well. might be a good skill to learn to write without looking at the paper. so you can keep your head up at the same time. relaxed focus is the key for me atleast.
