The title is a little misleading, what I meant is seeing any of his films for the first time just blows your mind. Like the first time I saw Dr. Strangelove it was like whoa, and it gets better everytime you watch it but it's just not like the first time. I just finished watching "2001: A Space Odyssey", damn did I love it. Don't get me wrong I'm too much a child of my time, that half my reviews read... "This was really slow", I did find some of it to be boring, not nearly as boring as people make it out to be, but some parts were to me. But it's a fasinating movie and I think it'll end up being like Brazil and Citizen Kane for me, the first time I watched it I thought cool but some parts were boring, and the next time will be like "wham!". Anyway this thread is in tribute to the man, KUBRICK!
Favorite Kubrick film: Dr. Strangelove or How I stop worrying and love hte bomb: In order of liking: 1. Dr Strangelove 2. 2001 Space Odyssey 3. Clockwork Orange 4. Eyes Wide Shut 5. The Shining(Got rewatch this again) Now I need to see his other films...

The Killing is one of his earlier films, and it's very noir-y and sort of un-Kubrick. I think it might be my favourite thing he's done.
I like 2001, but it's not his best work, and it occasionally seems to be weird for the sake of weird, but it's still a very good movie.

Who would win in a fight?

I hated 2001. I know a lot of people like it, and good for them, but... ugh. Not my cup of tea in the least.
ON the other hand, I thought Eyes Wide Shut was tolerable (partly for the waltz music), I liked The Shining, and Spartacus' biggest problem was Spartacus himself.

In a fight, Welles would sit on Kubrick and crush him. If it were the films fighting Kubrick would win. |

What if Kubrick had the infinity gauntlet and Welles was at SSJ level?

Of his directorial works I've only seen Citizen Kane and Mr. Arkadin, as much as I love Citizen Kane, I love Arkadin for it's zany plot and crazy camera angles.

I've only seen The Shining, and it's become my favorite horror movie. It quite possibly has the greatest camera work of every film I've ever seen. Some amazing tracking shots in that movie, especially when Danny rides his two wheeler around the hotel. Amazing movie.
I want to see A Clockwork Orange, despite my mom's warnings that it is extremely disturbing. I'm generally not a fan of disturbing cinema, but I'll make an exception for Kubrick.

Yeah, I liked the camera angles in that too.

What cut of it did you see? That movie would of been so much cooler though had Orson Welles cut his ego out of it and limited his role in the film, he would of been a cooler character IMO.

I agree The Shining is one of the greatest ever. It'd be in my top 5, but the ending just rubbed me the wrong way.

I hardly remember any Kubrick movie that didnīt make a mark on me... Wanna see great, deep, poetic, visually stunning sci-fi? 2001. Wanna see witty, spot on, anarchic political satyre? Dr. Strangelove. Inconsequent, punkish youth vs. oppressive, mind-numbing authority? Clockwork Orange. Oppressive, claustrophobic horror? The Shining. You name it, he has it.

The one I've always believed was that Jack was a reincarnation of the original caretaker (he mentions that he had been there before when he was eating breakfast in bed, that he had a feeling of deja vu to the point where it was scary in that he seemed to know every single corner of The Overlook). Another theory is that the spirits of the Indians at the burial ground that The Overlook was built on had consumed Jack and ultimately cost him his sanity and his life. Both are good explanations.

My favorite is The Shinning. Now thats a horror film. And I despise Eyes Wide Shut with a passion. Pointless, contrived and utterly a waste of time. Still need to see Clockwork Orange though.

Paths of Glory is also very good
Dr.Strangelove is my favorite Kubrick film, Clockwork Orange is a bit out there for my tastes ("Singing in the Rain" will never be the same for me again), and the Shining is very well done
