I definitely prefer the brighter colors, but mostly I love the way his HAIR looks here! All but those few wisps in his face... I don't like Superman with bangs hanging in his eyes the way we saw it in the water scenes in SR :-<

Costume is fine. If you're one of those 'hung-up' on it, keep to the comics.

Mmm, that'd work nicely :-> A few curls, but he won't look like he's drowning (even if he is!) when he gets wet. Got to get a leeetle Bond in there.

since you're so hung up on it being depressing and dark, go watch Burton's movies... you'd be happier that way.

it looks like the suit on his arm and the suit on his body aren't connected...

and no, I don't like that cape attachment.

They could do like the Spider-Man people have done the last three films (and will probably continue to do) ...is do several hundred little bits of minutia oriented changes to the suit until it eventually gets like the suit is in the comics. I love how they've talked about, patted themselves on the back about, all the detail and attention they've gone into adjusting the Spider-Man suit to tailor it to each movie. When you look at what they've done...each change is a little closer to what they should have done in the first place. His eyes, the color itself, the webbing.....Closer to the comics. Makes me laugh. So give it a few more movies and maybe they'll do the same with Supes and get it right.

I'm watching it on DVD now. The suit looks great in design.

The ONLY thing they should change for the sequel is the crimson/red and the filters; essentially slightly lightening the red.

Everything else is great onscreen and brandons build is fine. He looks even bigger on the film itself in proportion to everyone and everything else the way its shot (even though I know they stuffed him up, it looks realistic enough). I know he plans to get bigger for the sequel but I hope he doesnt overdo it. I like how he can pass off as thin and lanky as Clark and then can be made up to look like Superman completely different.

After watching the Donner Cut and then this; I prefer this suit WAY more. It's more realistic of a superhero costume in a modern setting and alot less campy.

I had no problem with Brandon Routh as Superman. Reeve's performance was superior, especially in his embodiment of the more heroic side of Supes. Routh might be able to affect that as well, but the script for Superman Returns was just more sombre than the Reeve flicks.

The only "stand up and cheer" scene was the jetliner rescue (though that was one awesome scene), so there wasn't much for Routh to grin about. By comparison, remember Reeve's introduction to Metropolis as Superman? He catches Lois and says, with a grin (like he's having fun), "Don't worry, miss, I've got you!" There were no moments like that in the Returns script for us to see whether Routh could pull off that side of Superman - sheer joy in being a hero.

No, what bothered me about Routh was how the new suit looked on him. The guy was in very good shape, just as good as Reeve, but the suit as it was designed made him look lanky rather than powerful and commanding. Now here's the same suit design on a videogame version of Routh:
http://www.vgcore.com/media/1_1002/7.jpg

Notice that on a Superman whose physique is like the one we see in the comics, the Returns suit actually works! But Routh doesn't have a physique like that (and neither did Reeve), so the suit has to be designed differently in order to achieve the same powerful effect in a live-action version.

I think the Reeves suit updated would be perfect...add a little texture to it and there you go...Superman is invulnerable and wears a suit over it...he would use tight fitting materials a raised insignia would never work right...

Same here. Just make the "S" a little bit smaller, but not small as SR. And keep the boots & trunk from SR. I like the trunk better than granny panties.

And make the suit a little more brighter too. Just as long it not Reeve's bright.

I don't want to see the height of the Donner trunks... they seriously made it look like a diaper.

what they need to do is look at the comics and see how they're drawn in there. I'm an enormous fan on the Jim Lee interpretation, and the trunks on his are fantastic: they don't look like manties, and they don't look like granny panties.

It's perfect.

I would prefer a shield wider across the chest and reach down to the very top of his stomach muscles

No offense, but I don't even know how this could be questioned. Yes they should change it, it was ridiculous.

The Singer suit just plain sucks and needs to be S**tcanned and returned back to the classic suit in design and color, with just the materials updated. Maybe a more rubbery material with no seams like Donner was trying to do way back when. Just look at that avatar. That is a Superman suit.

Yes - the tone of the movie is one thing, but Superman should still be a beacon of hope. At the very least, make the symbol more prominant - not something that he wears shamefully and kind of hopes no one will see.

that's why I never did like the colors of the suit. even on a new TV, with everything brand spanking new, it still looks like someone smeared a cyan paste over the suit and dipped the trunks, cape, and especially the boots in mud.

If you're gonna have a more realistic Superman, then at least make the suit stand out to what he really stands for... even when Superman is in pain or struggling, or whatever, you take one look at that suit, and you know that he still stands for truth and Justice. A dark suit doesn't do that... it conveys confusion, darkness, depression, even hated and disgust, and the core of Superman is none of those emotions.

Superman's suit should echo the inner core and ideals that the character of Superman is, even when Superman himself cannot.
