this was rumored before Superman Returns even started shooting....but those rumors have been picking up recently but dont think that this is a hundred percent sure with this movie coming out in summer of 2009....
3 years away with shooting beginning in Late 2007/Early 2008... |

Zod could work as a villain but where would he have been during the gap between Superman II and Returns assuming SII is in Continuity...it would fit well if it was following Superman I continuity...
because Zod could come and get revenge on Superman and he learns that he has a son.. |

I feel sure we will get Zod. Remember how Zod and the others were freed from the phantom zone in the original movies...Superman threw a hydrogen bomb into space...
Something similar will happen, it will be New Krypton that he threw into space smashing into the Phantom Zone to open it... So predictable... We're going to get another rehash/requel/re-tread/remake.... Prepare for Zod folks... Singer doesn't know how to do anything else....

ZOD is a great villain. Superman 2 was a great action packed movie.
Terence was a real evil ZOD. Great actor. But Singer wake up, we dont need a ZOD again, nor Luthor,Teschmacher,Otis and all the other stuff. Donner is Donner, dont copy him. Jude Law is a great actor, but Id like 2 know why Singer chooses him ? Why ? beacuse of Singers "orientation" ? Routh,Law ....hmmm Donners Zod was an angry,hard man; not looking like a beau Alfie. Cmon damn dont do this, please. Do this  and something new innovative like Metallo,Darkseid,Doomsday,Parasite,Brainiac.

This is a horrible idea which appears to be true. Here's another source on it:

In spite of the fact that so many people were turned off by the fact that Singer provided a horrible story, and excluded most of the source material of Superman in lieu of only using the Donner film, it appears he is going to continue his debacle by using Zod in the sequel. God forbid they use any of Superman's other rogues, i.e. Brainiac, Darkseid, Metallo, Parasite, etc. He's got some really great rogues, but since this is Singer we're dealing with, who hasn't got a clue about anything Superman other than the Donner film, we'll probably get the shaft at the box office again with another horribly written story by the whack pack of writers Harris and Daugherty, and by the arrogant ego nutcase Bryan Singer.
