I decided to make a FAQ for this thread because in the coming months I think it will need one. Please make this a sticky if u see fit becuase i have worked hard on it and will work harder to improve and update it. Enjoy!
Last Updated September 1, 2006 ------ Will there be a sequel? Yes there will be a sequel... In Feb 2006, WB announced that it has begun planning the Superman Returns sequel (http://www.movieweb.com/news/06/11206.php) "'Superman Returns' will be profitable for us," says Warner Bros. production president Jeff Robinov. "We would have liked it to have made more money, but it reintroduced the character in a great way and was a good launching pad for the next picture. We believe in Bryan and the franchise. Clearly, this was the most emotional and realistic superhero movie ever made." (http://www.bluetights.net/) The cast and crew seem eager to do a sequel to Superman Returns... UPDATE In a Variety article talking about investors it is mentioned that Legendary is on board for the Superman Returns sequel: If Legendary is unnerved, it isn't showing. Like Warners, Legendary insists it will turn a profit on "Superman Returns," and has given all indications that it's on deck to co-finance a sequel. Like Legendary, all the funds argue that they won't be made, or broken, by just one pic. By investing in a slate of pics over the course of several years, they're virtually guaranteed a return of 10%. http://www.superherohype.com/news/su...ws.php?id=4683 What Will the Sequel Be Called? For now this project is untitled.... When will filming begin and what is the release date? It has been reported it will start shooting in late 2007 with a release of summer 2009. (http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=23338) Who Will be directing it? Singer has not officialy been signed on to direct but it seems likely that he will because the WB is very positive about the movie and the way Singer invisioned it. He has already started talking about the prospects the sequel will have and cleared his schedule. Singer will most likely direct this movie. Brett Ratner, director of X-Men 3, has shown interest on directing the sequel to Superman Returns. Who is writing it? It has been reported that Dan Harris will be writing the sequel to Superman Returns and it can be presumed he will recieve help by Micheal Doughtery and Bryan Singer. Which cast members will be returning from Superman Returns? http://www.comics2film.com/FanFrame.php?f_id=10344 Brandon Routh signed a 3 picture deal in 2004. http://www.superherohype.com/news.php?id=3924 Kevin Spacey has confirmed that he will be in the sequel and possibly on for a third. Most of the key actors have been signed on for 3 films (http://www.superherohype.com/news/supermannews.php?id=4427) The Plot "As for the story, Singer said that while Superman Returns allowed him to introduce the cast, the sequel would allow him to 'go Wrath of Khan on it.'" He added that there would be an alien villain.http://www.superherohype.com/news/su...ws.php?id=4535 In another interview on Superherohype.com, Singer indicated a possible return of the New Krypton island. Rumored Villains to appear have included Mettalo, Darkseid, Brainiac, Doomsday and General Zod. Singer in an interview said: "there were certain things that were established in Superman Returns, like certain aspects of the characters, the relationships of the characters, certain reveals, and a great sense of unresolve in the romantic dilemma that Superman faces. And, now that the character is established, I'd like to take an opportunity to bring in, perhaps, a more threatening, foreboding, terrible element to the story." He was than asked if the terrible element would be someone from Krypton he replied: "Perhaps" (http://www.mediablvd.com/magazine/Ma...060420237.html) "We should have had perhaps a little more action to satisfy the young male crowd." - Alan Horn WB President on Superman Returns and what to expect in the future (http://www.superherohype.com/news/su...ws.php?id=4658) UPDATE In an interview on Sky News with Kate Bosworth (Lois Lane), she said that: "Lois will be back bigger and better in the next movie, and with more of her own storyline," (http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Lois-...-Off-3307.html) Will Zod Be in this Movie? Since 2004 Jude Law has been rumored to be playing General Zod, it has also been reported that Zod was in an early draft of Superman Returns. Since Superman Returns release it has been reported by several websites that Zod is indeed in this movie, but it hasnt been verified to be true yet. A WB source has said "Zod is going to be the main bad guy in the second film. Some say they should use an unknown but the director Bryan Singer is looking at Jude. The similarities between him and Stamp are clear." (http://www.express.co.uk/news_detail.html?sku=286) In an interview Singer was asked if someone from Krypton would be the new villain, he replied: Perhaps. Will there be a third movie? Its to early to say, but WB is happy with franchise and wish to continue and expand it. Most key actors are signed in for 3 movies. It will most likely be released in 2011. Lois Lane Spin-Off Movie UPDATE A reporter who interivewed Kate Bosworth has revealed that there might be a Lois Lane spin-off movie. (http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Lois-...-Off-3307.html) --- Last Updated September 1, 2006 ![]() Last edited by boywonder13; 09-01-2006 at 10:43 AM. |

...its just way damn to early to discuss casting in my opinion.... it wont be a rumor once we get a better source of info like superhero hype looks into it or something... |

I always knew a sequel would happen. The only thing i would say was Singer could return with the cast or the cast could return with a new director.

well i guess that makes it official then, we're getting a sequel.
in many ways i'm relieved. despite my issues with the film the last thing i want to happen is for the franchise to stop dead in its tracks. what i want to do now is to have the sequel improve on the weaknesses of the first. i dont know how, since a lot of what we're hearing this early on doesnt sound like it will sit too well with half the fandom (Superkid, Zod). and of course there's everyone's favorite subject: SR2's budget. i still dont know how the heck i'm gonna approach this film. i've been thinking of switching gears and look into this franchise as a remake, specially if we will get Zod again.

Brainiac or Metallo. Singer said we'll be seeing alot more from the history of Krypton....Brainiac fits the job well.

Zod makes sense also so for main villains (bsides Luthor) it seems like Zod or Brainiac or maybe even a supervillan threesome (with Luthor joing the two)
Zod would be good to explore Kryptons past also to see how the times were before it was destroyed.... |

My problem is we already saw Zod. Unless they make him in a different way then i understand. But for two villains, for me it would be Brainiac and Luthor. Or have Luthor, Metallo, and Brainiac. That WOULD be the ultimate Superman movie right there and so much could be done.

exploring the character of General Zod would be very interesting also, he is fertile story ground also...
his ties with Krypton are strong he did after all try to take it over (maybe we could see his plot to take over Krypton and how he failed) The Whole revenge this is taken to a new level now that Jason is in in the mix |

Well with Krypton gone (as we all know) maybe we could see a flashback of when Zod tried to over rule. But that's only if he's the villain. I'd really like to see something new. With today's tech Metallo or Brainiac would work well if done right.
