Default Is Blu-Ray/HD-DVD doing well?

It's funny. I didn't realize that HD DVD were out until I saw some at Fry's yesterday.

I know it may be early, but are the new formats performing?

Honestly, I still think because it's not a big big leap like VHS to DVD, these new formats won't be a huge sucess..Espcially if the players are so damn expensive. I could be wrong though..

The DVDs are damn expensive as well, or at least the internet prices that I've seen.

I'd be surprised if they take off. DVDs are hardly crappy quality themselves, and are still a relatively new medium.

High Def DVDs have an amazing picture quality and Audio..while dvds have an optional DTS track,Blu-Ray and HD DVD has it come standard. How well it's doing? So far,it's not bad,not great either. It's going to take awhile, but right now it's only a nich market for home theater junkies like myself,I'm waiting it out a bit longer.

I'm not getting a HD-DVD or Bluray player until they are dirt cheap. I don't want to have to convert my entire DVD collection to Blu-ray or HD-DVD when DVD just came out not even 10 years ago. Ugh. I'll end up buying one in a year or two most likely though, once blu-rays movie selection becomes wider.

Well, actually in my country it hasn't been released yet.

And I'll wait for Blu-Ray, when it will become cheap.

HD-DVD right now has the better picture, and yes it's doing better in sales than Blu-Ray is.

Actually, blu-ray is the one with the better picture and while HD-DVD is doing better in sales, blu-ray is making more money and has more support than HD-DVD.

while i don't really agree with the way Sony is more or less forcing people to buy blu-ray with the ps3, you have to admit, it's pretty smart.

Most of the HD-DVDs are running in VC-1 code, while Blu-Ray is not. VC-1 = best picture.

I'm waiting for the price drop and the player that can play all three formats. That way I don't have 2 different players. I also would need to get a newer HDTV as mine doesn't have HDMI or DVI inputs.

People just switched over reluctantly to DVD from VHS, they are not going to do it all over again anytime soon. Maybe like 5-10 years. Remember, we had VHS back in 76 and it became mainstream in the 80's. That format lasted forever. I still hear people asking for damn VHS tapes.

This dual format crap is bull****. It does nothing but hurt the market, as people get confused and then decide to wait for one of them to fail.

People are buying up more HD tvs, and I think that is going to greatly help the format though.

Not me, I've got almost 400 DVDs, and I am not going to replace them especially when I would barely notice a difference on my 32" standard TV.

I wouldn't replace my regular DVD's even if I do decide to go to the upgrade. I would replace my DVD's that had bad transfers such as the ones that were transfered in 480i instead of 480p and I would get The Punisher on Blu-Ray. But replace my entire collection...Not a chance.

I have the HD players, they weren't too expensive. It's the DVDs that are expensive! Not to mention there's not too much variety to choose from. It's a small section and few movies.

Are you sure? I've been reading the exact oposite. No thanks to BR's insistence on MPEG2. Have you read the reviews on The 5th Element?
