Nicholas was great! Seeing an updated take is great too. I don't think they'll disappoint fans. Wonder if they'll mess with the look of the bat suit or the car? The 1st films always had to alter something in batsy's outfit.

I wonder if Ledger is gonna have to start leaning out as opposed to bulking up.

No, they definitely had sex. I think the Joker was drunk though.

Nicholson gave a good performance but I don't think his character had depth I was think good 'Nicholson performance' rather than 'THAT's joker' you know the scene where batman/bale interrogates the dirty cop THAT was batman to a tee, bale NAILED it right there and then.

so basically Nicholson gets a 'A' for effort but doesn't quite 'get' the joker. here's hoping nolan reads the killing joke and watches the return of the joker the quintessential joke stories and ledger gives the performance of his career.

anyone else agree?
Wow. We agree on every single bit.

I alway hear Hamill's voice; I think he did a better job with his Joker bit[as opposed to his other job of wailing on the floor and waiting for Daddy to save him]

For me, there's nothing else to say. I agree with your opinion.

And what else is to be said? Nicholson was perfect for Scorsese, but Burton was directing instead?

I guess I'm the only guy here that thinks everything Burton did was only half right. Yes he gave us a dark Batman on film, but he didn't put the real Batman on screen. I hate Burton's style. He's just some goth kid all grown up that gets paid to make movies. I never thought Keaton was a good Batman. I thought Jack Nicholson came across as Jack Nicholson acting like he was the Joker. I hate the old movies now. As a kid they rocked because it was just cool seeing Batman in a movie, but after BB I know how Batman should be portrayed on film. I say screw anyone that thinks Nicholson's Joker was definitive of the character.

No. There's not a singular interpretation of the Joker; when live-action visuals are incorporated into the mix, Nicholson fit Burton's expectation and direction. Nolan's trying something different.

Different visionaries have unique styles.

Nicholson's performance would have undoubtedly varied under another Director.

And who said that Nicholson was perfect for Scorcese, but Burton was directing instead? You probably mentioned that solely because 'The Departed' is in theaters right now, but it has little to do with the aforementioned.

Ellie is saying that Heath's statements to the effect of, "what Nicholson did was perfect for Burton's vision" means that Nicholson nailed it.

Of course that is not, strictly speaking, true... because as I recall Heath also said that Batman 89 was not great. Which I agree with. I do think Nicholson did a great job. But I'm not crazy about Batman '89 (I loved it when I was a kid) and what Nicholson did, I don't need to see again. But I wouldn't disrespect it. I'm glad Bale is as unlike Keaton as he could be, Bale is much more like the Batman we know from the comics... but as with Nicholson, what Keaton did was perfect for Burton's vision, and it changed the way the public perceived Batman as a character, so I don't disrespect that performance, either.

Still, what Ledger said about Nicholson is not at all the same as "he nailed it," since the phrase "nailing it" in this case contains some ambiguity... did he nail the part as written in the script (yes) or the part as written in the comics (too many different versions to nail them all at once)? In this case, the statement "he nailed it" is inherently ambiguous.

He actually did kill in B89.
- Near the beginning, the thugs were talking about how their buddy was essentially thrown off a rooftop by bats.
- The batmobile had machine guns.
- The batmobile was driven into Joker's factory and dropped a bomb which would have killed the dozen or so thugs that were trying to shoot it.
- the batwing used chain guns and rockets.

so it wasn't just the one instance. it was happening through the whole movie.
=)

You should be ashamed. Cancer Zoo-sh * t got it. Well, he wasn't playing the 'huh? I'm not getting it' act.

Basically Nicholson or any other actor is going to act according to the director's vision. I mean... duh. So ledger is going to do something different... don't screw! He is working with other director in totally different circumstances. So Nicholson played a Burton's Joker... golly! Burton was directing. Amazing.

Easily a rumour. Johnny Gobbs could have jumped by himself.

Me having a gun doesn't make me a killer. Batmobile's machine guns were used as a weapon to open ways for the vehicle, not killing that we can see.

And saving the rest of Gotham people by it. Mission accomplished, Batman.

Now this is confusing, because I saw Joker's henchmen falling and stuf but not sure if it was because of a bullet.

whoa, hold up. Batman drove the batmobile into an factory with the intent of killing joker and his minions. he killed about a dozen henchmen. sure, they may not of been innocents. but that still makes him a killer. those dozen thugs weren't going to bring down gotham, bats could have easily gone in and brought them down for the police.

- Gotham police is 90% corruption. One month and they'll be free again. Bad idea.

It's like when you have your girl in your batmobile. You allow yourself to crush some police cars with your own car and even make them crash against walls and to each other as long as you can save your girl's life in time.

I loved in BR when Batman straps a bomb to the fat guy and throws him down a well and walks off while he blows up...
