First of all, I think it was a miracle these two great composers were able to find time in their schedules to collaborate on Batman Begins. But seeing as they are both constantly in so much demand in the industry, there is a chance that The Dark Knight might not be so lucky to have a reunion of their partnership. In such a case, which one would you most likely want to take over the score composing duties for the Batman Begins sequel?

This should've been a poll, with not "both" option.

Realistically, James Newton Howard. Zimmer was reluctant to do the Batman Begins score and he even said he would only do another Batman movie if it is a different film from Begins. Otherwise Zimmer avoid franchises like the plague.
That said Newton Howard, is not chopped liver. But If it were up to me, I say scrap these two and get Howard Shore.

who did what in Begins anyway? I mean, was it a full-on collaboration, or were some themes composed by one and not the other!?!
![]() seriously, I thought that whoever was first hired for the gig didn't work out and left the reigns to the next guy . . .

okay . . . from what I've learned on IMDB, it seems that Howard did most of the emotional stuff, while Zimmer stuck to the action; both of the respecitive catergories being their strong-points; also according to one IMDB source (I know, I know, it's IMD-fuackin B), the collaboration was something that the both of them had been wanting to do . . . . hopefully they'll both come back . . . .

I posted this on another thread - but perfectly fitting here on this one as well.
I think the music for BTAS and especially Mask of the Phantasm is an excellent benchmark for Batman in the gritty realism sense. For the Dark Knight - I would love it if Nolan dumped Hans Zimmer and let James Newton Howard do the entire score. There would be continuity to a degree in doing so with Batman Begins, but I think he would take Batman to what most of us Batman fans consider to be a signature music style given what was done in TAS. His music would probably come closer to what Shirley Walker did with MOTP - and he has an impeccable talent for using gothic choir with full orchestra. If you can grab and listen to 'Tarawa" from 'Snow on White Cedars', or even 'The Great Eatlon' from 'Lady in the Water' scores, you can get a taste of what Newton-Howard might be able to bring to the Dark Knight table - and make many of us fans even happier, seeing that while we do like the music in Batman Begins, many of us think that was the weakest aspect of the movie. |

Well, this is pretty tricky.
I'd probably choose Hans Zimmer, because I hardly know anything about this Newton fella. Zimmer's composed some decent tracks in his time - so he gets my vote. |
