use your 360 until the PS3 is cheap enough. backwards compatibility sure is a beautiful thing. or get one of those slim line ones if you like small quiet systems. but owning a 360 makes that not seem like an issue.

I might pick up the Slim, or just wait and get the right tools to fix it. I know I'm not paying Sony 600 bucks for something that should be half of that.

Mine is a launch PS2 too. The only problem I ever have with it is the playing of certain older games, particular blue discs, but that's easily solved by tilting the PS2 at an angle. Hopefully it will last until I can get my hands on a PS3, which is probably a couple of years down the line.

On my 2nd PS2 since launch, the first one I traded for a brand new one with when they added another processor or whatever they did. This one still works but my brothers kids dropped it 2 times one weekend, on my hardwood floor and then they dropped something on top of it. NOW it is slow when loading songs on madden 07 (when the game plays a new song while you are doing stuff in the menus) and it freezes for a bit. I have yet to try another game in it but that alone makes me want to just get a new one. They are only a hundred bucks and this one has millions o fhours logged on it so I am not too worried.
My xbox has had 2 new dvd rom drives put in and one new hard drive, all within the last year.

My PS2 is about 5 yrs. old and the only problem I'm having is playing movie DVD's. Games are fine, but for some reason it can't read movie discs, at least most of the time. Sometimes it will play if I try it a couple of dozen times, but I mostly give up after a few times 'cuz it's a PITA. I've read it may be due to dust on the laser lens, I'll see about getting a can of compressed air and cleaning it out. Do ya think that'll help?
