As a harmoinca player, I wouldn't say there is anything simple about sonny boy williamson or muddy waters, old style blues is actually quite intense and hard to play! I personally can't tell much difference from the egde and other guitarists.

I guess I should rephrase my definition of simple here. It's not simple like just playing barre chords and power chords is simple. It's simple in it's arrangement and progression I guess I'd say. I'm not sure if those are the right words to use though. I'm not sure if I'm getting the right point across.

Well I can't see U2 as very talented, But then again I listen to Led Zepelin, The stones, Black sabbath, Ten years after, Hendrix, etc.

The grunge era in my opinion is comparable in quality to the period from 1965-1975. Bands like Jane's Addiction, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Rage Against The Machine, Mudhoney, Alice in Chains, Screaming Trees, Pearl Jam are all great.

Agreed. I love The Beatles and they are definitely among the best, but I think a few of their peers were better in certain aspects. Led Zeppelin, The Who and Queen were better musicians, The Rolling Stones IMO experimented with a broader range of musical stylings (highly debatable, no doubt), The Beach Boys (some would argue their credentials as a true rock band) had better vocals and pretty much started the whole pyschedelia trend (something Sgt. Pepper's is often miscredited as doing), and The Kinks had a better songwriter in the earlier years (there's no doubt that Lennon is probably the greatest songwriter ever, except for Dylan (I am constantly at odds with this decision), but the early stuff could've easily been sung by a lesser band such as Herman's Hermits.

They were no doubt a great band, and one of the best and the band that turned me on to classic rock, but I think a lot of the people who call them the best are just goign along with popular opinion rather than their own personal beliefs.

Those bands are considered great not so much for how long they've been around but for how much their music influenced and imapcted the entire music world, and rightfully so. The Foo Fighters will never ahcieve what those two bands as well as so many other bands achieved.

Loudon Wainwright III, Arlo Guthrie, Country Joel McDonald. The blues band. Richard Thompson(but to name a few of my fav's that spring to my very tired and exhasted mind)
