It should be in Pittsburgh, but that's just my personal opinion.

Loved this book. Political allegory could get a bit heavy-handed (don't they always?) but it was genuinely intelligent and moving and skillfully written. And funny.

"I'm not a hunter. I'm a fighter."

You know something, ive been hearing that a lot, and I just dont see it. I see the allegory, im not blind but it doesnt seem one sided at all and really its not slapping you across the face like Ultimates or something. Like some people complained that *spoiler*
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
The ending of the US soldiers killing the lions was a slap in the face to the troops and it symbolized an anti-american stance by Vaughan
But, thats how the true story ended. WTF?

I personally thought it was because, throughout the story, all these obviously political comments would suddenly pop up out of nowhere. It felt kinda jarring.

Ali: "I'm hungry."
Noor: "You're hungry because they TOOK AWAY OUR FREEDOM."

Safa: "Attack the bastard!"
Fajer: "You only attack me because you are ignorant and ungrateful radicals who do not understand the sociopolitical climate of the world!"

Okay, so I paraphrase...a bit. And I get that it's the whole point Vaughan was trying to make in the first place, so it's not like I can say I didn't see it coming. Anyway it's basically like watching MTV and the hoochies doing everything in sight, but then periodically having Judd Winick show up and tell them they all have AIDS now. Of course you realize in retrospect that the show was called "True Life: Hoochies and AIDS" but it's still a bit heavyhanded.

Shhh, it's a perfect metaphor.

You lucky SOB. I'd kill to have cake, beer, and pop with BKV. But don't worry...I'm slowly working on some quantum physics and soon I'll be able to time travel into other peoples lives. I'll make sure to "leap" into you during the BKV signing. I'll get to experience the awesomeness of it all and you won't.

Did you ask him if he was going to be doing anything with Spider-Man?

This sounds like something Akbar and Jeff would say in Matt Groenings Life in Hell

I didnt see that at all. I guess its like those kids who read ultimates and claim there isnt any political allegory.

I was considering ordering it after reading a few "in the same category as Watchmen" reviews. But to be honest it doesn't really interest me.

Given the comments in this thread, I might give it a miss. Thanks for saving me some money. Wish I had visited forums like this before ordering The Dark Knight Strikes Back.

Did you ask him if he was going to be doing anything with Spider-Man?
no, because i hate spiderman, i asked him if hes ever gonna do DC superheros he said he did 2 or 3 issues of batman and considers it his best work (superhero comics i think he ment). I have to hunt thoughs down, I told him that i havent read anything from him except Pride but i did buy Y the last man 1 and 2 and he signed them for me, issue 60 will be the last. I actually read them both last night, i'm going to the comic shop to get 2 more later today.

Yeah, Y The Last Man is really addictive.

And remember...Spider-Man hates you too.
