I say cabinet od dr caligari, it's more influential, being the precursor the the above two movies, I'm a huge expressionist fan, so congrats on a good thread, but seriously, make a poll and put things like faust and of course Golem up!

Who the hell are you? It's my thread about these two films, if you don't like it leave.

It is completely unbelieveble to me that you would come into my thread and tell me what I should have done. Freakin pisses me off.

sorry, i was just adding, since you said battle of the silent movies, I thought it should be fairer, but out of the two.....Hard choice, I'm thinking metropolis as it's more consistent and innovative, sorry, I didn't mean to offend, just throwing an idea around.

They´re both great, but Metropolis is the seminal movie of dystopian sci-fi, and one of the most accomplished movies to create a world of their own.

Both masterpieces. Metropolis is one of my all time favourites, but Nosferatu is for me almost perfection. Two of the best movies ever made.

Ooo, tough one. I think I'd have to go with Nosferatu for pure enjoyment but Metropolis is a much more groundbreaking film in my opinion. I say it's not as enjoyable simply because the version I've seen has a ton of holes. There is a restored version that I really need to go rent or buy.

I come from a directorial and editorial POV, Metropolis is better for that, as Lang made great use of the silent nature, by adjusting the speed of each section.

Also, there are more sophisticated editing techniques, but it is a close call, but metroplis is the first true sci-fi, whereas nosferatu does take elements from previous horror films, the coming up the stairs shadow scene is very reminiscent of the first killing in Caligari.

Lang is the better director in terms of this film, and also for his whole filmography, anyway. All for all, metropolis just takes it.

Never had the oportunity to see Metropoilis, so I can't really comment. And I've seen Nosferatu, and I really like it, but there are other silent movies I'd put above it. And I hear that the remake, Nosferatu The Vampyre is much better.

I haven't seen it but it couldn't be better. As far as I know it's in color and isn't silent. Who wants to watch that?

Caligari, Phantom of the Opera, The Kid, and The Thief of Bagdad. I don't think any of them are much better than Nosferatu or anything, I just enjoy watching them more. Nosferatu is still a pretty incredible movie, and I still love it.

I wouldn't say it's better, but it is a Herzog movie, and it is one of the few remakes that deserves a space on the shelf next to it's predecessor.

As I've said before, Metropolis to this day has the best cityscapes recorded on film.

I really love Metropolis, it is such an awesome film and it was a pretty big accomplishment. Nosferatu is fantastic also, a classic silent horror film. Both are great.

Yeah, we complain about how expensive movies are now, but if you adjust inflation... They say that if you shot Lawrence Of Arabia today the exact same way it was shot back when it was made, with all the same scenes, it´d cost, like, Titanic money...

Thanks for the creating this poll. Reminds me how much I really need to see Nosferatu.

I own Metropolis, so I picked that one.
