With things clearly resparking between Superman and Lois, what will happen with Richard?
Somewhere in the middle, he began to Suspect Clark of being Superman, comparing him to Clark and their extremely similar physical proportions, so do you think he will test Clark to see if he is Superman(Kind of like Lois in Superman II) or do you think he could change dramatically when/if he discovers that Lois is not only in love with Superman again, but that Jason is not his son?And how would he take it? Would he become an agressive character, or would he pull a Cyclops and cry dramatically for a long time? I would very much like to see where his character will go, and what you guys think will happen? |

What to do with the character of Richard will be a problem but not as much of one as Jason.
What if Jason really is Richard's kid who somehow developed powers (Maybe he was bitten by a radio-active fan-boy)? Now that Richard is in the picture, there isn't much of a way to get rid of him. He can only be downplayed at this point. |

I hope he and Jason pull a Nightcrawler and simply don't appear and aren't even mentioned in the next movie, and none of the featured characters will notice a thing.

Richard and Lois will break up, somewhere in the next movie he'll tell Lois where her heart truely lies and he'll leave. He'll run the international division overseas.

I think they might wait until the 3rd movie to finally have Lois and Supes hook up again.

While it would certainly fix some things in the movie to A) have Richard go to the Dark Side (to mix metaphors), I'd hate to see it happen because he is a nice guy and a reasonably well-developed character as far as personality goes, and because that would really mess Jason up (see B) below). Background, outside interests are another story.
The hardest part to figure out, as far as "reality" and "justice" go, is this: if something - anything - happens to Richard but not to Jason, then Jason loses the only father he has ever known. That's just not a good thing for a little kid. Or B) does the little kid grow up to be a big bad villain because this twists him? Now THERE would be a twist in the Superman legend, but I'm not sure how many of us would enjoy the movie that results (Superman vs. the "other" Jason (not the one with the mask)). Barring that, the believable options seem to be: C) kill Richard - Jason grows up sad, but Superman gets to step in and take care of him w/o complications OTHER THAN Richard's parents (who weren't in SR) wondering about their grandson - they presumably would have been involved in his life thus far D) kill Jason - then Richard & Superman can fight over Lois, or not, or Richard can just drift off sadly now that his supposed connection to Lois has been severed. Thing is, this would really scar our Man of Steel, and how would he get twisted? E) kill Richard AND Jason - no Richard-Superman fight, no custody battle, but again - a sad Superman. With any of the above scenarios, there's a good chance that Lois would blame Superman for her loss(es) - possibly damaging their relationship irreparably. If we assume that we don't want our heroes/heroines/innocent kids scarred (this is Superman, after all, not Batman or X-Men) then we have to consider hokier yet well-established options to remedy the situation: F) Dream sequence to explain away Richard, Jason, or both. G) Mind-wipe on Richard, Jason, Lois, and/or everyone (except Superman?); reprint "Superman is dad" to fix it all. H) Jason turns out to have some physical powers - sporadically or as he grows - but mostly mental ones. Have it turn out that when he was a tot, he was unusually wise for his age. He mentally pulled Richard into a relationship with his mom because he wanted, and needed, a dad and Richard was conveniently available and a good role model. Now that Jason has... other options... perhaps he'll release his hold. This could get pretty complicated and the motives would have to be well-established to avoid painting Jason as a creepy mind-controller. I just can't think of a way to get Richard out of the picture without Jason ending up twisted and/or Richard being really hurt, and neither has done anything to merit such results. I don't know if there IS a way to resolve this w/o Richard and/or Jason becoming victims of one sort or another. Hmmm, forgot the boring option... I) Richard becomes a hero of some sort or another (mortal) superhero - he's close anyway - and he and Superman share custody of Jason. Richard, Superman, and Lois come to an understanding, nobody is scarred too badly, and it's just another modern blended family... I am, of course, assuming we can't and won't kill off Lois - that would solve pretty much everything, as I could easily see Richard and Superman sharing Jason's care and upbringing once most of the jealousy issue was removed... |

After repeat viewing of SR, Richard White was easily the most interesting character. You just couldn't help but feel bad for the guy. He has to compete with Superman, and on top of that his kid really isn't even his. Hopefully in the sequel they either A) turn him into Metallo (even though he isn't John Corben, I'd let it slide), or B) have Superman fail to save him somehow and have Jason resent Superman because of it. What would be cooler than an evil Jason fighting Superman?

What the hell is everyone saying he needs to be Metallo for? Why can't he just go nuts and try to kill Lois? Or why can't he just say "**** it" and run away with some other hot girl?

I love that Richard White is a well developed and likable heroic character, and not just a schmuck like JJ Jameson's son in Spider-Man 2. I mean, if you think of what Mary Jane did to him in that movie, literally ditching him at the altar and running to Peter....it's pretty f***ed up. But we as the audience never get to know him as more than a handsome face with a privelaged life, and he has "Peter's Girl" to boot, so we all automatically hate him. If John Jameson had been well developed, it wouldn't be so black and white. I like that Singer made Richard White a real person and not a carciture of "the other man". Sadly, the only way Lois and Clark and jason can end up as a happy family without being homewreckers is to have Richard die, either in the next movie or in between films ( He IS a pilot for small planes...easy ass way to kill him off right there ) Jason will then need a father and Clark will step up. I just hope they don't make Richard a bad guy. That is so cliched.

Hopefully he'll get electrocuted and meet a bloody demise such as Christopher Walken's character in Batman Returns.

Well they have to get rid of him, so Lois and Clark can get together. I say give him a heroic death. Have Brainiac try and kill Lois and Jason and then Richard tries to stop him, so Brainiac kills Richard instead, giving Superman enough time to save Lois and Jason.

I think the best thing would be is to have a very heroic, emotional death for him in the second film. Don't make it like "oh, we want to get rid of those dude, so Supes and Lois can get together!" Make it like he's his own character, with his own beginning and ending, and story arc, and end it well, and end it respectfully. Then start to think about a Supes/Lois relationship in the third movie.

I wouldn't have minded if he was just simply a boyfriend for Lois, instead of them having Jason. But if he were to return, maybe he good do a 360 and be a villain.

I still like the idea of him being electrocuted and meet a bloody demise in the hands of a maniac killer

hears what i think of Richard...I definitely see him dying in a sacrificing manner to either save superman or jason, and in his dying words, tell superman that he knew all along.
if they go with the villian route, say metallo, lets say as he's about to kill superman, he looks over to jason and decides not to kill him. This pissing off brainiac, and he therefore kills him in front of everyone.

Unfortuantly...if they want to try and stick to any comic book continuity....Richard has to leave in one way or another. I would prefer to see something halfway decent happen to the guy (all the calls for his death truelly astound me with their vitriol)....and have him live and walk away with some kind of glory attributed to him.

I want Richard to do want Groosulag did [in Angel] when he realized Cordilia loved Angel and not him. Like Groosulag, Richard could have a quiet talk with Lois, while Jason's asleep, about how he realizes that she loves superman.
He could tell her he new for awhile now, but thought he could try and hold on to the woman he loves. Lois shows remorse about this revealtion, but she does not disagree. Richard who stuff has already been packed, tells Lois that despite not being in love with him, Richard had loved her. Lois saddly says sorry to Richard, and then looks on as distraught Richard quietly leaves the apartment, giving Lois one last smile. |

That was an unexpected Angel reference, but it's always nice to see the show get a mention.
Richard's a nice guy. I certainly don't want to see anything bad happen to him. Of course, Superman and Lois don't seem like they'll ever be able to get together in the movies (they've tried before in Superman II, too many problems). I don't even think Lois likes Clark in Singer's movie. So Richard could stick around, help raise the kid, and be a good man. |
