he should know jason isn't his. that he is in fact superman's and since superman left he took it upon himself to be his father and believed what could be the newest and most powerful being on the planet would need guidance, kinda like Pa Kent. also he totally should pull a groosalug and step aside. He should say something like: In history there's always been a lois and... clark. Kisses her on the cheek and bye bye.

okay, making him zod is a bit much, but at some point him and lois will break up it doesn't have to be corny or a cliche he could just start doing stupid things to mess up then make peace and move on. as for not knowing that jason is not his son wouldn't make much sense because lois wouldn't pull a stunt like that. even if she is just protecting jason. richard and lois would have simply met sometime after jason was born. their relationship started at that point. lois never told richard much about her life before they met and kept certain things to herself. besides, they are not married just have very long engagement. he could become jealous bout her relationship with clark (not necessarily superman) that would cause more problems because supes sees her more as clark besides its not like lois doesn't know that clark and supes are the same person inspite of the so called memory wipe kiss. lois would know how to keep his clark's secret and play it off around others including richard. make jason smart considering who he has as parent's that just common sense. don't turn into some over emotional gothic kid because richard is gone and no superman vs superboy crap that would be boring. i'm not saying there shouldn't be some conflict this is difficult situation but let's not turn it into a really really bad soap opera. richard can leave with some grace. besides, losing a dad will always leave scars, just like clark still has over jonathan, richard's loss no matter how it happens will become a bonding moment for clark and jason because he understands how jason feels and can help through his grief; which eventually leads to lois and clark starting things over. richard seems like a nice guy so far but his story is still not complete there are still a lot of good creative ways to develop his character.

so about the grammar errors and spelling

I'll admit I don't want him to be evil or become evil.

that's predictable too, but not as bad as turning into a villain, but a short fall from grace then glory.

Or he can still be alivfe. Where does the need of killing him or make him dissapear come from actually?

He can be the father for Jason Superman can't be. Just as Jonathan was the father Jor-El couldn't be.

i do agree with you to a point; but remember in the end lois and clark will somehow end up back together. if done right he can still have a place in the story. richard could be like martha kent a key character but not always presents.

that's right lex and clark were friends in the comics for years, but lex was always older and lived in smallville for a short period of time. the crisis revamp from 1986 went further back making lex his archenemy alomst from the beginning only pretend to be his friend.

This would be okay if Superman was dead. The fact he is still around will at some point can cause conflict between Richard and Lois especially where Jason is concern. Not because anybody does anything just situation itself.
Jonathan was able to a father because Jor-El died on Krypton.

Been thinking about the richard problem.
Make him a baddie is a cliche.
How about the kid is richard's but richard is a superhero.

Th Cool Re: The Official Richard White & James Marsden Thread

that's the same thing as making him a villain; besides supes confirmed it him self that Jason was his son at the end of SR.

terra1319

before you ask how, supes scans Jason when he is in Jason's room.

Okay, I know it's late and that the (cinematic) universe has taken a liking in Richard White and saved him from the misery ... by removing his entire existence forever... but I will still follow up on that. The character, within the context of the Richard Donner/Bryan Singer timeline is a brilliant addition. Not only does he serve as an excellent foil to Clark Kent/Superman, but to me in the end he serves the role of Jonathan Kent for Kal-El's son.

If they had made a sequel I don't think he would have turned hostile. The character was meant to be very positive and endearing, to turn him into an envious super-villain (I'm looking at you Harry Osborne) would be too simple. Richard is a respectable guy despite the fact that Clark would initially be jealous of him for 'leading the life that should have been mine'. By the end of the film, this role is reversed and it's Superman who now has what Richard had 'the life that should have been mine'. But he still manages to retain his family and Superman's son, he isn't a villain at all but the normal human being who must level with Superman in what might be the most important thing in his life: his family. Fact that he retains his goodwill would be truer to who he is. That wouldn't be 'pulling a Cyclops', it would be 'pulling an Wolverine' (remember X2?)

On the flip side, I think the hostility would come from Clark's side. By the end of the first film we left Kal-El content that he is no longer the last survivor of Krypton - he is no longer alone but has found Jason. This whole idea is threatened by the fact that despite that he can never be a part of Jason's life, at least not without being Clark Kent (a false persona). Would the Man of Tomorrow be the jealous father instead?

It has been speculated by most fans that the whole dilemma regarding Jason's parentage would be a long, unofficial custody battle between Richard and Kal-El. If this indeed drives the central conflict of the story, I think the only way it would end is with Lois breaking up with Richard and keeping her distance from Superman and taking the child to raise herself. Single-parent Lane is much more believable than the Lois we saw in the first film. So where does this leave Richard White? Why, as the guy who aids Superman in stopping the big bad villain of course! Even if we ignore the fact that Richard White is every bit the 90s Pete Ross, there's his status of being a White, the Harvey Dent to Kal's Bruce Wayne. But I didn't have to make that analogy, it was screaming that in the first film already. For variation, we could think of him as the reporter who seeks to oust Superman as Clark Kent (Lois probably figured this out later on?), leading to an antagonistic relationship with the Man of Tomorrow, but it wouldn't succumb to villainy. The greater question, in my opinion, is what will happen to the kid.

@ byte19

well, that wouldn't be the problem since Superman will probably continue to 'be around' as Clark Kent - just as Jor El never really 'died' in the films since we always have his disembodied presence in the Fortress of Solitude. There are much more family-friendly answers to the problem: a) Make the second dad the god father, b) make Superman the 'biological' dad and Richard the 'home' dad - families have step fathers all the time, often WITHOUT all the melodrama and negative connotations that come with the relationship. Richard probably knows Jason better than Superman anyway.
