First he named Spider-Man, then he defeated Spidey as a theater usher, and now he gets to play a villain? Film Ick is reporting a rumor that Bruce Campbell may be playing Quentin Beck (aka Mysterio) on the set of a Spidey movie being made within Spider-Man 3. The site says that Avi Arad and Sam Raimi will have cameos as the producer and director of the film.

I can definitely see this as being a funny scene. Bruce Campbell did say before that he "teams up with Spider-Man" in this movie, right? I'm curious to see how that will happen in this context.

I wonder if Bendis will show up somewhere since they've taken his idea from USM's Hollywood arc (which Sony was hesitant at first to allow) and put it in the film.

The news seems to be flooding in this week, or at least suspected news; suspected statuettes and drawings of venom, suspected new trailer release date, suspected new villain, pretty good week I'd say.

I hope to God it is true because if you look in the sequel thread, you'll see that I had the very same idea for a movie with Mysterio as the main villian. I'd chalk it right up there with my Sandman in Spider-Man 3 prediction that people scoffed at too!

I like this idea. Sony would never allow an actor on Bruce Campbell's level to have top billing in a Spider-Man film, but Raimi is aware that the fans want to see it. This seems like a good solution, that part of the Hollywood arc in USM was pretty funny, plus we get Bruce as Mysterio.

Or is he going to be presumed to have been made up for the film?

Also, it does open up for a "real life" Mysterio to come out of the film, as certain someone on set, who adopts the films character in "real life"

That's how it worked in USM. Mysterio had never appeared as a villain, but he was a character in the Spiderman movie in the book. Until of course a real fight occurred between Spidey and Doc Ock that they just started filming live to save money of FX.

the joke is that bruce playsan acter in spideman 3,

and he got the part of playing quentin/mysteio in a spiderman film thats in spiderman 3, and sam raimi is directing the spiderman movie in spiderman 3 as his cameo

In the Ultimate Spider-Man arc Hollywood, a Spider -man movie was being made where they had drawn in cameos from Sam Raimi, Avi Arad, and Bruce Campbell as Mysterio. This is also funny because Bruce Campbell is one entertaining man and his personality would very much fit that of Quentin Beck's were he to play him.

Campbell as Mysterio? A cool concept (if true), but again -- where is there going to be time for this with all the other stuff going on in SM3? If only Venom wasn't shoved into this movie I'd be less concerned about all these other elements.

Kind of sucks for Mysterio fans if he's just treated as a quick throwaway joke, but I suppose its better than him not being in there at all.

Honestly I hope this is just a rumour. It could end up like the violin girl in spidey 2. I don't want them to camp this up too much, specially since this is supposed to be the darkest in the series.
