It's easy to name TONS of big effect, big star movies that have flopped. The Island? Wild Wild West? Godzilla? Hulk? Riddick? Etc.

Great doesn't mean success either....typically the opposite.

But, let's list a few good big names big budgets big effects "blockbusters" that failed, too. Sky Captain, Starship Troopers, one could debate Star Trek X and Alien Resurrection....didn't the last Matrix movie kinda tank, too?

I wouldn't call that a crappy movie, just a kinda "in-between," or "setup" movie.

MrHateYourself has a very stupid view on things. We should probably wait before bashing the movie.

This is where he'll say "Well you should wait before saying it's good".

Well, I don't remember any of us ever saying it would be good, we may have said we'd expect it to, but the bold claims are all his.

If Peter stays on, I have no doubts about how good the movie will be.

Well that's a good reason to think the movie will be good.

A bad reason to think the movie will be bad is because someone made PotC2.

That's a really, really bad reason.

Umm...

It should also be taken into consideration that Halo has more of an American audience than abroad. It probably wouldn't do well overseas.

You don't have to be a Halo fanboy to watch the movie. Oh my god. Not "many" people in America or Europe read comic books but the movies are great so they do well.

Its a number 1 selling series world wide.

Not just the games but the toys, books and graphic novel.

I WAS talking about the second one, Mentok.

You can't live with hate in your heart; that leads to the dark side *points to PS3 display*.

True, but the comparison doesn't hold up very well. Halo hasn't reached pop-culture status or is instantly recognizable by everyone. The only three video-game characters I can think of that have penetrated pop-culture are Mario, Sonic, and Pac-Man.

Let's hope that the Halo movie is much better than the Mario Brothers one.

Good job Nintendo on letting that little gem get made!

I love it to death for some reason. I'm actually trying to find it on DVD.

But yeah, let this thread die. It was probably for the best.

Might as well lump in A:R since it was marginally better than (the theatrical version of) Alien 3 and there's so many Joss Whedon fanboys that you'll find forums full of defenders.

The last Matrix....saying it was better than Reloaded is like saying a kick to the right nut is better than a kick to the left, but Revolutions had massive power suits fighting swarms of spermbots. If you can't love that scene....

The Mario Bros movie should be on DVD.....?

Anyhow, MrHateYourself doesn't have "stupid views", he has "well balanced, informed and sensible views"....but go right ahead and think a few million in video game sales means something is popular, good, production worth, whathave you. Go ahead and argue with solid logic on the cost and distribution of profit and responsibility. Hollywood is as easy as saying "I have a great idea, it'd be an awesome movie!" and getting a $100 million dollar check, right?

Mentok, number 1 selling worldwide? Number 1 selling....for a console that is extremely unpopular in the biggest video game market (Asia)....and is far, far from the biggest console in America....so 1st for XBox is kinda like....not even getting to stand on the trophy stage when you talk overall sales. Not as depressing as some of Nintendo's proud claims (1.5 million Smash Bros Melee copies sold! wheee!), but not exactly "best selling". High selling for it's very limited market.

But you know, again, $100 million in video game sales equals not even noteworthy when translated to ticket sales. Even if every one of those people went to see it twice. Ben Affleck in red tights had broader and more profitable appeal. Yet curiously, Jen Garner in red tights had far less.
