I'm not a dummy when it comes to tv's but one thing baffles me about my television. I'm wondering should I bother with getting Component cables for my wii. The reson being is my set has Component inputs but it's not a High Def Set. It a 36 inch black tube monitor. I'm guising I can still run wii games in 480 p since I have component in's and when I connected my dvd with component I think it looked cleaner but it's kind of hard to tell. So I guess my question is do you see the diffrence with 480p on non High def sets?

Not really.. 480p isn't HD as it is.. it's not even ED.
I don't think getting component cables or not is really going to change the picture quality. And I was under the impression that component cables yield the lowest picture quality of DVI, VGA/RGB, and S-Video. Is there some other alternative that the Wii is using that I don't know about? |

You must be thinking about composite cables which comes standard with wii ,Component is definately better than s-video by nature. I did some research on google and may have found an answer. I believe you don't have to have a hd set to enjoy 480p but you just need a tv that displays a progresive scan image and not an interlaced image. Which raises another question though if you're tv displays only 480i and not 480p will you still get a picture. My tv has to support one of these or whats the point of having component ins? The toshiba website is useless. If anybody has an answer to these mysteries help me out. I can't be the only one in this situation.
To anybody wondering I have a Toshiba 36A43 you can google it.

Yes, it will look better and cleaner, and clearer. The order goes:
Composite --> S-Video --> Component --> HD Simple. Obviously, the Wii won't be HD compatible, but the next best thing is component. As long as you have the red, green and blue inputs for it in the back of your TV, you're set. If you can find them before launch, 200% definately get them!!!! I'm searching all the time for them. Nintendo said they'll be $30. I had them last gen for the GC, and they make a great difference.

Ah, yes, I was confusing component and composite. Sorry about that. But yeah, you can always get the better-quality component cables, though I wouldn't expect the picture quality to be near as crisp as it is with RGB/VGA cables. I'm not thinking that Nintendo sells those, though.

Component will give you about the best quality out of a standard set. If your set will take them, definatly go with component.

I had my GC hooked up to a lovely 56" Sony 1080, and it looked....well, it looked awful, as any 480 game would, especially on an hd screen, but it looked WAY better than with the typical setup. |
