God, I wish they stuck with the Pilgrim look. It was just more interesting than this.

Whats happening with this movie? No new whatsover. I'm guessing it'll probably end up as a 100 theatre run, with a very quick DVD release.

exactly.
I'm all for indie movies. I love 'em. Here is a different case because it's a movie that probably should have studio support and a good budget due to its content. That's why Mutant Chronicles is like..lost in limbo for a while and it looks average at best. I think an unlimited budget can a really bad thing, and the filmmaker can be lazy. A smaller budget can cause creativity due to the limitations; however it could also damper the scope of the film too if it's not done right. I just feel like Soloman Kane might be a so-so movie. I can't say why but it's just a vibe.

The director's previous films (Deathwatch, Wilderness) have also been very so-so/okay movies, so I'm not really expecting much from SK. Quote:
So, it's still in post.

SORRY FOR THE SILENCE Been a bit busy but will get back to you all with something soon. Oh yeah, SOLOMON KANE is finished. Absolutely and totally complete (at least the theatrical version). I sat down and watched a beautiful glossy print with awesome surround sound at Pinewood studios on Friday. It’s done. What I think hardly matters any more but I gotta tell you, it’s a darn good movie and even after all this time, I’m not sick of it. There’s great visuals, powerful performances, deep thematic ideas and subtext as well as some kick-ass sword fights and creature action. It’s not gimmicky or contemporary, just a very classically made and beautiful to look at dark-fantasy-action-adventure. Kinda worked out just like I planned when I pitched it to the producers a few years ago. Some things got lost along the way but what I gained seems to have more than made up for it all. Can’t wait to share it with you.

I hope the marketing starts to ramp up now, and it doesnt sit on a shelf for a few years.

we'll see, or it'll end up going straight to DVD here in the States. I really like Solomon Kane but...I've got a funny feeling here.
Perhaps, we need a trailer of some sort.

Have a feeling it will go to tv like the sci fi channel or to DVD then to the sci fi channel.

it has a sci-fi channel feel to it, haha. Despite not having any footage or anything, I'm just getting a vibe because the poster looks kinda cheap, the director only has made B-level movies, the budget is only 20-30 million, and there's no release date in sight that I know of.
It reminds me..(I'll use it again) of Mutant Chronicles.

Yupm we could just see it stahsed in the back of the video store for all I know. I feel bad though. The director sounds proud of it.

Maybe we should wait until we see an actual trailer or even the movie?
I know it's a crazy concept, but hey...

I think that the movie needs a studio to pick it up; then you'll see a trailer.

i was introduced to kane back when marvel did the limited series in the eighties. that was also my first introduction to mignola (issue 4 i think?). i have been waiting for this to be made for nearly twenty years.
a bit iffy on the soloman's look but i will reserve judgement until i can see this. |
