IC: Lex Luthor

It had been a slew of slowly passing days for Lex, as he stared out at Metropolis through his office's window. The city was buzzing with life. A grim smile came to his face, knowing that if he suceeded in today's agenda... and he knew he would... that would change soon enough. Even if the only life he truly intended to take was Superman's. But to draw attention from the leader of the pack... their 'god', as it were... Lex knew that casualties were not only essential... they were nessacary.

Besides. What was the true the cost of a few mere lives, if it meant the reward of everlasting freedom from a menance unfathomed? It was that thought that brought Lex's smile even wider, as his new receptionist buzzed into his office.

"Sir, your one 'o clock is here."

Lex turned, his smile fading as he realised who he was about to greet. While he did want her to be here... It was only to give him an alibi for what was about to happen. He didn't actually look forward to being graced with her prescence.

"-Joy. Send them in, Carol.", Lex stated, sitting down at his desk.

Within moments, Lex watched as the twin doors infront of him opened, slowly, revealing his two expected guests. Lois Lane, and her barely noticeable companion. Perry White's star players in the game that was The Daily Planet's journalism. Lex, quite frankly, wasn't impressed. But they would do.

"Ah. Miss Lane.", Lex greeted, as the two walked forward. "And Mister, what, exactly?"

The glasses adorned peasant attempted to speak, but was immediatley cut off by Lane.

"His name is Clark Kent. You've met him before. Twice.", Lane responded, sharply.

Lex raised an eyebrow, before giving a halfhearted smile.

"Oh, yes. I remember now. My little visit to the Latverian Embassy, last year. We did cross paths, didn't we?", Lex answered, as Mr. Kent seemed to look uneasy for a small moment. Lex turned to Lois, as she seated herself. "I was never given the chance to ask. How was your sitting with the good Doctor?"

Lois gave him a mean look, as she knew what he had really meant by that. While Lex's rants and public speeches against Superman once the attacks by General Zod had become front page news, Lane and Kent's Doom expose had been moved to page three. It was a victory Lex basked in, even though his grander plan had unfortunatley failed. But that didn't stop Lex from rubbing Lane's nose in it.

Peculiarly, Lane's look turned into a smirk.

"Oh, it had it's moments. Of course, it wasn't nearly as exciting as Superman's defeat over that maniac Zod. Everyone just seemed to love that piece."

Lex paused, letting that sink in. He had probably walked himself right into that one. But Lex would remember that, the day she would crawl to him, begging to save her from her supposed savior after he had finally gone mad with power. Provided, of course, the alien wouldn't fall today...

"Yes. Well. I suppose every tyrant must be given his justly punishment.", Lex responded. "Zod was a maniac bent on world domination. He, above all, deserved a due justice. It's only unfortunate that-"

"-He was put down by Superman?", Lane cut off, with another smirk.

"...I was going to say that it was only unfortunate that he had been allowed to live at the time of the Chicago massacre and the attack on our nation's capitol, but yes, that too is an injustice.", Lex stated, with a noted sense of anger in his tone.

Lane had cut him off far too many times than she should've, and the interview hadn't even truly began. He knew that it was a mistake to invite her here. But of all the people in Metropolis, She was the one above all that Lex needed to convince of his sincerity.

She was a public figure, one of the country's top reporters. And as evidenced by Superman himself... the people of this country looked to these all important public figures. So for him to continue in this petty rivalry between the two would only benefit Lane, because while her stories would attract attention... Lex's reputation would plummet. And he wouldn't have that. Lex Luthor was not about to become a bottom feeder just because of some lousy little gossip hound like Lois Lane.

"If we can move onto the interview, Miss Lane.", Lex stated, recomposing himself after his brief moment of anger towards the mention of Superman. "I do have very important buisness to attend to, after all."

"Calm down.", Lane responded, pulling her tape recorder from her purse. "I'm sure you can hold off another key to the city ceremony long enough for this little chat."

Lex smirked. Not at the comment, but at the knowledge that soon, Lane's own smirk would be ripped from her face, witnessing what would emerge from within the City Of Tommorow in time. Oh, what a glorious moment that would be...

"So. First question. How does it feel to be nominated as Time's Most Influential, considering you beat out everyone from Tony Stark to Bruce Wayne?", Lois asked.

"Quite an achievement.", Lex answered, seeming rather... bored, with the question.

"You don't seem very enthused.", Lois responded.

"Perhaps that is because we're avoiding a true issue, here, Lois.", Lex continues, placing his hands together as he leans back in his chair. "While I sit here today, humbled that the people of our great nation have chosen me for such a title... let me ask you this. In a country where criminality is comformed to a lesser title under supercriminality... and where the only evident solutions lie in a need for freaks with capes and masks... how truly influential can one of us mere mortals be?"

Lane's expression seemed to exert appaul, at this.

"If you're talking about Superman, I think-"

"Not just him. Though I do hold him responsible as the true influence over these misguided... vigilants.", Lex responded. "But the population seems only to expand, regardless of his existance. Why even today, I read of the exploits of a masked vigilante sighted near the Hell's Kitchen district of New York City. And on the page following, sightings of a leather clad ruffian with a T on his face."

"And you believe those guys to be a threat to the world?", Lane asked.

"I believe vigilantism in itself to be a threat to the world, yes.", Lex answered. "The day we allow ourselves to take the law into our own hands is the day that order ceases."

"And furthermore, you believe Superman to be responsible for them? All of them?", Lane continued, her skepticism obvious.

"Now Lois, I didn't say that, now did I?", Lex asked. "I'm sure the rampant increase of costumed vigilantism isn't entirely his fault. He is only human, after all."

Lex paused, before another smirk graced his face.

"Oh. Wait. That's right. He isn't."

Lane's anger wasn't subtle anymore. Lex could tell, from the look on her face after that comment. What she saw in the alien, Lex would probably never know. But quite frankly, it sickened him.

"My point, being that if I am America's most influential... why does this problem still exist?", Lex asked. "If my influence had taken actual fruition, Superman and every one of the vigilantes that followed his example would be given their due punishments, aswell."

For a moment, Lane and her companion were silent. But that silence was broken, as both of them looked down at Lex's desk. One of his pens was shaking. Upon further inspection, Lex noticed that everything on the desk was shaking. Looking back up at the two reporters, Lex realised both were now staring at something behind him with awe. Raising an eyebrow, he turned, viewing what had caught their attention.

And immediatley, he tried his best to surpress his smile. The fun had just begun.

"My god.", Lane whispered, looking at it. "What the hell is that?"

Lex turned, putting on a serious face.

"I'm afraid our interview will have to be postponed. It seems you have a more pressing story to cover... And I have a building to evacuate.", Lex stated.

Looking around, his eyebrow arched, once again.

"...Didn't you have a partner with you?"

It takes only a few seconds for me to speed out of the office, and into the halls of Luthor's company. I can only hope no one sees me as I do it. Well, that, and I hope I don't bump into anyone. But if I'm to stop that... whatever that thing is in the city, I need to hurry. There isn't a moment to waste.

Now to find a janitor's clos-... There. Bingo. Get moving, Clark.

Stepping into it, and shutting the door behind me, I immediatley remove my glasses and open my shirt, revealing the costume underneath. I feel... strange, doing this in Luthor's building. But time doesn't permit me to change in a more pleasant setting... So this'll just have to do.

Opening the window, I leap out of it, and immediatley take to the skies. Admittedly, it doesn't take me long to find the monstrosity that Lois and I saw from Luthor's office. But that's only because it's so big... infact, I'm beginning to wonder if I'm in over my head, taking it on. But it's a little too late to worry about that, I guess...

"HEY!", I yell, getting it's attention as it turns around.

...

Uh... wow. Okay, this is definatley not the average enemy. But I can't let it roam through the city... it could crush someone. Or worse.

"I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to-"

Before I can get another word in, I'm hit from above, and thrown to the streets below. I think... Great Krypton. I think I was hit by his hand. Needless to say, it doesn't feel all that pleasant when I land on the concrete, admist a crowd of fleeing bystanders.

But before I can get up, I hear a rumble. The figure just took a step, and he made a rumble doing it. efinatley not the average enemy. My eyes widen, as he looks down on me, directly. This could be very bad. Very, very bad.

"Well, Well. The Freak In The Red Cape. Do Forgive Me For Not Being Floored With Admiration."

"Name's Metallo. And You're Just The Flyboy I Was Looking For. Now, What Do You Say We Skip The Pleasantries And Get Right To The Part Where I Make You Into Street Pizza?"

Something tells me that my day just got alot more interesting...

So it's been about two weeks since I took Kate in. She's proving her worth, she's a damn fine archer and can trade blows with the best of them. Plus she's pretty good in the sack...don't look at me like that. Anyway I'm watching T.V. in my penthouse and she's lifting weights. That's all she does. That's when the flash comes on T.V.

"This just in..a robot seems to be tearing through downtown Metropolis as we speak. No cameras are there yet, but word is that Superman in on the scene. More reports as they come in."

Oh dam.

"KATE! Grab your bow and quiver. Were stepping out to Metropolis."

*******

I just so happen to be in Metropolis with doing some work for S.H.I.E.L.D. when this creep called Metallo decides to take a walk downtown. Superman is on the scene by the time I show up. I'm standing on a rooftop when Metallo passes me without looking.

"Hey! Scrapheap!"

I leap off the building.

I land on Metallo's back and dig my shield into his adamantium skin.

"Let's see how you like Vibranium, buddy boy."

Norman almost salivated at the money he'd make from all of the defense contracts. Hell, Ivo's designs for his android super-soldier alone would garner billions of dollars. Just think of everything they could accomplish with Norman at the forefront.

A soft knock on the door snapped Norman from his day dreams.

"Yes", asked Osborn as he put on his suit jacket.

"Dad", asked Harry as he entered the room, "you got a minute?"

Norman sighed as he turned to face his son. "I suppose I can spare a minute, but I'm running late as is for my trip to England. You'll have to make it quick, Harry."

Harry sat down on the bed, taking off his jacket and placing it in his lap.
"I...there's this...I'm...", Harry stumbled over the words as he tried to explain his dilemma to his father. Norman seeing his son's problem cut in.
"Let me guess, girl troubles?"

Harry looked up at his father, "Yeah, how'd you know?"

Norman smiled a genuine smile of sincerity, "Because I know that look. It's been on my face before when I was your age."

"So", continued Norman as he sat next to his son, "What's her name?"

"Gwen", answered Harry, "her name's Gwen. We've been friends for a few years now, but..."

"But you think it may be leading into more than friendship", said Norman, knowingly.

"Yeah. I like her, Dad, I really do. But I don't think she sees me as anything other than a friend."

"Harry", smiled Norman as he put his hand on his son's shoulder and gave it a loving squeeze, "if you feel that strongly about this girl, then you need to tell her."

"I would", replied Harry, "but I don't want to say something that would end up ruining our friendship, or make things awkward between us."

"Son, you'll never get anywhere with that attitude. You're an Osborn. You need to start acting like one. If you like this girl, tell her. Be strong. Be confident. But, most importantly, be careful, Harry. You're at a prime age, Harry, and many women will be trying to trap you for your money. You've got to be careful who you let into your life, son. You say this girl and you have been friends for a few years, right?"

"Y-yeah", stammered Harry, "since freshmen year."

"That still does not mean you can trust her, boy. Never let your guard down. As soon as you do, that's when they pounce like the Jackals they are."

"Now", continued Norman as he rose to his feet, "I'm not saying you shouldn't pursue this Gwen girl, or stop being friends with her. Who knows? She may be a genuinely good person. I'm simply telling you to be wary of who you let into your life."

"Thanks, Dad", smiled Harry as he stood up and hugged his father, "you've been a big help."

"Hey, that's what I'm here for, kiddo", answered Norman with a smile. Breaking the moment Norman grabbed his suitcase from the side of the dresser and made his way for the door.
"I've got to run, Harry, but I want to know how things go with this Gwen girl when I get back."

"Sure thing, Dad", smiled Harry as he waved goodbye, "Have a good trip."

"Oh, I most certainly will", smirked Norman as he put on his sunglasses and walked out the bedroom door.

Harry was making progress, albeit slowly. Still, Norman was confident he could make a man out of his son eventually. Someone worthy to take over the Osborn Legacy when he was gone. Now was not the time to think about that though. No, now he had to concentrate on his trip to England and acquiring the final piece to the puzzle that is S.T.A.R. Labs. He had a date with the "Lord Evolutionary", and he dare not be late.
Osborn sat in his stretch limo as it made it's way down the London streets back to his hotel. He was alone in the limo save for the man seated across from him in a dark brown suit and tie that matched the color of his neatly combed hair.

"Mr. Osborn, I'm flattered that you came all the way across the Atlantic to come and 'recruit' me for your project", spoke the man, "but I must decline. I have work here I simply can't leave behind."

"I'm not asking you to stop whatever it is you're working on, Professor Wyndham", replied Norman, trying to take the sharp edge from his tone, "you will be free to continue and start whatever projects you wish. That's one of the whole points of S.T.A.R. Labs."

Herbert Wyndham took a sip from his glass of wine as he looked Osborn straight in the eye.
"So you say, but I've heard it all before. My old teacher, the reclusive Nathaniel Essex, made similar promises when he got me to join him once more for, and I quote, the 'greatest genetic experimentation the planet will ever witness'". The truth of the matter was that I was forced to put everything of mine on the back burner...for years while I toiled for that man. Not just my work, but my very life I wasted on that man. So, you can see why I am a bit leery of similar honeyed words being spoken in my ear once more."

"Yes, I definitely see it from your point of view", retorted Osborn, "but I am not Essex. The fuel that will make S.T.A.R. Labs run is the creative juices from each individual professor and doctor. Each scientist is free to work on whatever project they desire. In fact, it is these personal projects that will make S.T.A.R. Labs the pillar of the scientific world. Your genetic research and experimentation will help build a better tomorrow for all mankind."

Osborn finished his red wine and placed the empty glass in a side compartment. As he brushed some dust off of his black dress pants, he continued his pitch, "Why, even now our Professor Ivo has begun work on something that could very well save countless lives of soldiers fighting in the battlefield. If he is successful, thousands upon thousands of men and women can be spared the horrors of war. Just think what you could contribute to humanity with OsCorp's vast resources at your disposal."

"And I suppose you'll let us take full credit for any discovery or creation we make", asked a skeptical Wyndham.

"Full credit will go to the person rightly responsible", answered Norman without pause. He had prepared for this meeting for days. He did his homework, he knew the kind of man Professor Wyndham was, and where he would go with his questions.
"That goes for all successes...and failures", finished Osborn with a stern look.

Wyndham gave a smirk as he chuckled slightly, "And I suppose OsCorp and the great Norman Osborn will be in line to make a fortune for all of our hard work."

Again Osborn did not hesitate with his response, "Naturally, depending on the achievement. We are a business after all, and it is only fair that OsCorp sees a return for the colossal investment we make in supplying our scientists with whatever they require. The scientist in question will make a hefty profit from a successful completion of a project, but so will OsCorp. Make no mistake about that."

Wyndham nodded his head, as if he expected the answer, "Of course."

A moment of silence fell between them as Wyndham mulled the decision he now faced.

Osborn just sat back in the limo's comfortable leather bench seat, crossed his legs and his hands over his lap, and waited. From his research, he knew that his offer was too good for Wyndham to pass up. Wyndham just acted as the paranoid skeptic as he did not want Osborn to see his full hand, so to speak. But Norman was an expert at reading people. It was a little talent that allowed him to build OsCorp from a small little company to one of the largest corporate empires in the entire world.
He knew that Wyndham would cave in eventually. It was just a matter of dancing the dance to his tune is all.

"Very well, Mr. Osborn", said Herbert Wyndham after a few minutes of contemplative silence.
"I will join your S.T.A.R. Laboratories, but I want all you promised in writing or the deal is off."

"Don't worry", Osborn replied with a smile, "I have a contract sitting in the desk in my room waiting for your scrutiny."

"Very good then", was all the response Herbert Wyndham gave in return, and Osborn could care less.
In less than an hour he will have acquired some of the top scientific minds on the entire planet to work for him. His S.T.A.R. Labs would make him rich beyond his wildest dreams, and would give him the power needed to see to it that the Goblin, and all the other metahumans who got in his way, received exactly what they deserved.

(IC: Nick Fury)

"Damn, damn, damn."

The Colonel had returned to the HeliCarrier less than an hour ago, and already things were going to hell. Some sort of giant robot had appeared in Metropolis, seemingly out of nowhere. His agents were scanning the files of every logged metahuman on the planet, and couldn't find a match. For once, Fury had no idea what his forces were facing.

"Look alive, ass-holes," he barked, storming into the Carrier's bridge. "We've got ourselves one hell of a situation brewing in Metropolis. Two friendlies are already in the field, against one very very big hostile. I want two airborne units there within twenty minutes, and five Knight-watch squads on the ground to work crowd control. This is a containment mission, people, so avoid fire until given the order. The capes are going to get first crack at this thing, then we run clean-up."

The bridge came alive with activity, operatives scrambling to their positions as they began to maneuver the massive airship towards Metropolis.

He took his seat, and looked uneasily at the console in front of him. The last time he had to manage one of these 'super-fights,' he found himself having to dispatch a nuclear warhead to end it. The Colonel had no desire to launch a missile into the heart of a major American city.

"Let's just hope to God that this time, the Super-types get it done right."

I fly over as fast as as I can, and I instantly see Superman and Captain America already on the scene. Although I do need to find the Flash, I figure nows a good a chance as any to prove my mettle alongside my new teammates. Should i just start fighting, or should I ask first.....

“So the salmon pâté would be the starter h’orderve and then we’d serve the duck with the orange sauce along with a sweet wine…

Dinah glanced at her watch as she absently listened to the Wedding Planner drone on about the h’orderves. She nodded politely and sipped her iced tea with mint, pretending to have her mind on the food. Tony should be here to help her, sure he was busy with Jay setting up the meeting for the as yet un-named Super-Group, and sure, she loved that the two of them were hitting it off. But that was no reason for her to be handling everything on her own. Weddings were about two people, not one, so why should only one be doing it. The clock hit the hour and Dinah stood up, shouldering her purse.

“Sylvia you’re doing a wonderful job, but I don’t want the duck, and I need to go. I’m wanted at the floral store across town in half an hour.”

Sylvia’s smile froze for a moment in half turn, her arm over the dishes as it registered that her star client was leaving and didn’t like one of her suggestions.

“Oh, why of course! I’d forgotten. Well, you and Mr. Stark can set a date for tasting and we-“

“I’ll try,” Dinah interrupted as she gave the woman a hug before gliding to the door.
“I love the pâté by the way.” She said before bolting out the door and into the sunlight.

She slipped her glasses on and headed for the car on the sidewalk, slipping in as the body guard closed the door. Dinah sighed as the car started moving.
The press was having a field day with her and Tony, especially now that Tony was out in public. It was annoying and while her and Tony had fought over her ability to protect herself, the Bodyguard was there to protect all doubt that she could be the Black Canary.
She watched out the window as the buildings crawled by, the florist boutique was about 20 minutes away and Dinah sifted through flowers and arrangements. She’d decided to do the flowers without her mother, Sylvia or Tony, flowers were a personal thing. She’d grown up with them, and she respected them as they seemed to respect her. Her mother was always complimenting her on her eye to mix colors so well, yet it was the flowers that lead Dinah in her arrangements. They seemed to fall into place on their own.

The car stopped in front of the store and Val opened the door for her, he was tall, bald and the quintessential bodyguard.

‘Bodyguards-R-us’ Dinah thought ruefully as she entered the floral shop. She paused and took in the mixed fragrance of the shop, before letting her mind shuffle through her time slots. She’d planned an hour here before going home and preparing for the meeting, but maybe she’d push it and give her self half an hour. The small shop had an all windowed front, and the shop it’s self was overflowing with stacks and stacks of flowers in vases.

A slender woman came from the back, her long black hair was pulled back in a loopy bun and her ancestry was mixed, giving her an exotic look. She gave a slight bow as was custom in the asian countries and smiled.

“You must be Miss Lance, my name is Ute, and I was told to expect you. Mrs. Alsop the owner is out sick today, but I’m her assistant and hopefully I can help you all the same.”

Dinah glanced ruefully at Val who was viewable through the front windows.

“It is so hard to go anywhere these days.”

The woman smiled understandably.
“I understand you chose us for our exotic flowers?”

Dinah nodded, home-grown ones she could have gotten from her mothers.

“This way.”

She lead Dinah to the back, as Val slipped through the door behind Dinah.

The back was like coming home for Dinah, state of the art refrigerated units held shelves and shelves of flowers. The woman motioned to a row.

“Here are some of out finest, feel free.”

Dinah nodded opened one of the doors pulling out a flower of peach complexion on a long, pale yellow green stalk. The minutes passed as Dinah and Ute pulled flowers from vases and toyed with arrangements.

“…this one will give it height and mixes nicely with the..”

“ Do the smells clash?”

“I’d go with the Burgundy and then a..”

Dinah stepped back and observed the three mock-ups they’d made.

“They seem to be missing something.” She said absently as Ute looked at her in confusion, the door bell twinkled out front.

“I’ll be right back.” Ute said hurrying to the front.

Dinah turned and looked back at the units, glancing through the glass for the missing piece. She’d been through it all once but there was always a possibility of missing something. A hint of red caught Dinah’s eye and she leaned over for a closer look, sliding the glass door open. Pulling it out Dinah smiled. It was a beauty, delicate crinkled petals surrounded a long pistil, one flower per step the long deep green stems blended with the flower, contrasting it’s blood red tones. The vibrancy of the color caught Dinah off guard and she even wondered if it would suit the colors of the wedding.
She dipped her face down to smell it, it was one of those less odorless flowers, just a hint of sweet-spice to it. Gently pulling out a few more Dinah went to the counter and started inserting them into the arrangements. She hummed a bit, before bringing her fingers to her forehead. A headache, just what she needed before the meeting.

Yesterday, my world came crashing down when the Batman told me that Dinah had been abducted, and the there was nothing I could do about it. Things only got worse when I told Tony what happened. I thought he was going to explode. Then he threatened to put on his armor and take me out right after he found Dinah himself.

And then he turned to the bottle.

And then I told Dinah's mother.

A few hours later, after she calmed down, we agreed to continue keeping everyone out of the loop. There's little reason in making them worry, and we'd always have to keep them from going after Dinah. And risking her life like Batman and Al Ghul said.

As it is, I know I'm going to have to keep my eye on Tony and Diane.

But today, the event on the news is that a giant robotic monster is fighting Superman and Steve in Metropolis. And they seem to be having problems with it. I wish I had a way to signal the rest of the team.

I walk outside of my house and look to the east. I sigh with exhaustion, then rush off in a dash.

I feel so old.

Oh damn.

"KATE! Grab your bow and quiver. Were stepping out to Metropolis."

Next thing I know, I'm speeding down the Metropolis freeway while Kate chanes clothes.

"So have you thought of a name?"

"What's wrong with Kate Bishop?"

"It's not superhero enough. How about Purple Arrow?"

"No way. Kate Bishop."

"Whatever...."

I park the car about a block from Metallo's rampage and Kate and I start to run. I stop right next to Superman and that Captain Marvel guy.

"Sorry for the disturbence, mam."

I crouch on the windowseal and toss my shield towards Metallo's massive form. It makes a mettalic thunk as it buries itself into Metallo's forhead.

"OWW, DAMMIT!"

I breathe a sigh of relief, as the monster's stopped in tracks. Good. Just in time to let some of the escaping bystanders get away from the area. I don't know why he...it stopped, but I can hear some sort of disturbance near the side of it's neck. Peering up with my x-ray, and what I've learned to call 'microscopic vision', I see just what made Metallo pause. And my grin couldn't be wider.

I knew joining this team would be beneficial.

As I stand, brushing the dirt off of my costume, I hear a crackle of thunder. Turning, I spot another familiar individual land next to me. Seems that Cap isn't the only one that came to help...

IC: Lex Luthor

Lex watches all of the growing chaos from several different monitors, within a dark, secret room behind a large mural painting in his office. Lois Lane and the top floor employees had already been escorted to the secrurity wing by Lex's guards, while the rest were evacuated. So Lex knew that, with them distracted, there would be no interference.

Tapping a microphone next to the monitor, as one of them showed Superman and Captain America, Lex snarled, before speaking in. Perhaps he would be able to take out two birds with one stone...

"Mr. Corben. It's obvious by that pathetic attempt at heroism that the alien's weakness is compassion.", Lex began. "Do try and use that to your advantage. Unsheathe the Daily Planet's globe. That should keep the boyscout busy as you deal with the nuisances willing to aide him."

"You're The Boss."

Lex smiled, evilly. Yes. Yes, he was.

Is he telling me what to do? Me? Captain America? That would offend a lesser man.

"Your right. I'll provide some covering fire."

I look down and yell at the small group of superheroes.

"CAPTAIN MARVEL, GREEN ARROW, um.....PURPLE ARROW? PROVIDE SOME COVERING FIRE FOR SUPERMAN!"

I jump and land of Metallo, removing my shield from his forhead and backflip onto a nearby roof. Metallo get's me in his sights when I start to run. I dodge a beam from Metallo's eyes. Woha, that was close.

I fire off a few of my nitro arrows and Kate gets a few into Metallo's head. The nitro arrows expolode right in his face and Kate's arrows lodge into his head.

"Was Captain America just bossing me around?"

"Yeah, I know. It's surreal."

"You're mine now, Robin." Metallo says as he bears down on the Green Arrow, stomping closer to both him and his new partner. "I mean, really," the metallic creature asks, "who in their right mind wears a feather in a pointed cap?"

The monster's giant hand comes crashing down at Ollie until a giant steel girder slams into his forehead with such speed that it compacts down to a flat disc. The disc falls loudly to the street below as Metallo staggers back a couple of steps.

"What the-"

I put my hands on another girder from the debris of the building it smashed and begin charging it with speed. "You're one to talk about looks!" I shout. The thing roars at me. "Did you like that? Well," the girder is so charged, I'm able to lift it with a slight touch, "you'll love this."

"Let me tell you what I love."Twin beams of green energy lash out from its eyes, cutting through the base of the giant globe on top of the Daily Planet Building. The globe starts to roll and tumble through the air. "That."

God. The people! I let the girder fall back onto the street. The asphalt explodes from the speed energy discharged. But I've already streaked under the globe, standing in an ever increasing shadow.

"RUN!!!" I shout. Most people do, but other stand frozen. I put my arms up and spin them around faster and faster. Twin vortexes of gale force wind blast the bottom of the globe. It's decent slows, but does not stop. I spin my arms harder as sweat beads on my face. But it still doesn't stop.

"C'mon...c'mon..."

I watch as Captain America agrees with me, and takes control of the situation. Wow. I feel like I'm fighting in World War II... This is incredible. Fighting alongside Captain America...

Focus, Clark. Focus.

I turn, and fly towards Metallo as Green Arrow, his companion, and Cap get to work. Got to make this count. If he detects even my slightest prescence, he could-

"Let Me Tell You What I Love."

*SSSSS*

"That."

I stop, looking down at the streets. Who is he talking to? After a moment, I notice the red streak that flies into downtown. Another smile forms, as I recognise the form. Flash seems to have made it, too. Now I know we stand a chance...

As I continue flying towards Metallo, something dawns on me. What did he mean by 'that'?

I stop, peering through the skyscrapers infront of me with my x-ray vision. But before I do that, I already hear the screams. Then, my eyes widen, seeing the globe of The Daily Planet. It's... falling. And it's already halfway down, heading towards the street.

"GOOD LORD!"

I immediately fly off, smashing through numerous windows and brick walls ahead of me. I don't even feel them. All I know is that in a few seconds, that globe is going to come down on someone below it. And I cannot... will not allow that to happen.

I fly through the Daily Planet's newsroom, passing Perry and Jimmy as they watch all of this through the front window.

"DUDE!" "GREAT CEASER'S GHOST!"

And that's before they notice me, as I fly into the office and smash through the window, holding my hands up. Come on, Clark. You can do this. You've caught flying tractors during tornado season back on the farm... You can surely manage a steel globe...

Seconds turn to minutes, as I feel it, and lift with all of my strength, stopping it's descent. Yes! I did it...

But that was definatley what I consider to be a close one...

Flying downwards towards the street, I land, looking over at Flash as I slowly place the globe onto an empty section of the street.

"Don't worry. I've got this on-"

*WHAM*

...

...

...

How I end up from the street to nearly fifty miles above Metropolis' skyline is beyond me. But all I know is that however it happened, it hurt, because my face aches. Stopping myself in mid-air, I look around, confused. Metallo didn't deliver that hit. But if he didn't, then who-

Suddenly, I notice a dark figure flying towards me at a speed I'd never dare attempt. Upon further inspection, my eyes widen as I realise something. Whoever that is... it's... a woman? A flying woman?

"SUPERMAN!", She yells, angrily. "Prepare to answer for your crimes, at the hands of Warbird!"

...

This day just keeps getting stranger as it goes.

"Don't worry. I've got this on-"

It's only because my body was partially at superspeed that I even glimpse the woman flying directly for Superman.

"Loo-"

All I see is two streaks fly into the sky. One blue, and one black. Less than a moment later the force of the impact sends me skidding backwards.

"-k...out?"

I look up, but they're already out of my eyesight. An explosion rings out. The monster's fist punches into another building. I can feel the anger on my face.

"Where'd I leave that girder..."

I watch as some crazy flying dame hits Superman just when he puts the globe of the Daily Planet back into place. I would be worried but, he's a big boy and I've got bigger fish to fry. Green Arrow and his sidekick still lay down some covering fire as I jump of the building and land next to Jay.

"What do you say old man? Up for some real fighting."

I dodge Metallo's massive legs and look over at Jay.

"Run around him until you make a vortex, see if you can lift this scrapheap out of Metropolis."

I crack my knuckles. "Just like the old days." I take a step, then look back. "Good to be fighting alongside you again."

I'm speeding around Metallo faster and faster. A few moments I pass by Ollie and his partner.

"Get."

"The."

"Civilians."

"Away."

Already the wind blows fiercly. Newspapers and trash spinning up as the vortex starts. Metallo finally notices me, but can't seem to make contact. His energy beam chases me for a second, but makes no contact.

I just speed up.

Jay goes around...and around....and around.....Metallo. The wind starts to kick up, I turn to Arrow and his young friend.

"Make sure you evacuate the area as fast as you can! I've seen Jay when he does this. It's almost on par with a hurricane."

"You don't have to tell us twice, Cap!"

GA and his sidekick start to evacuate the area while I let myself get sucked int Jay's whirlwind. I spin around Metallo five times befoe I'm able to get in the eye of the vortex. I land on Metallo's midsection and bash at his skin with my shield. Superman said something about his curcits and while I may not know electronics too well. I know how to mess it up.

"SUPERMAN!", She yells, angrily. "Prepare to answer for your crimes, at the hands of Warbird!"
"Wait... Stop!"

It isn't a second later before I feel another one of her punches uppercut me. I feel them, which in itself astounds... But that's nothing in comparison to her speed. The way she flys, the way that she landed that punch, and the way she's tearing after me even now tells me that I'm dealing with someone who's learned control of her powers. Which, needless to say, isn't very good for me.

I can only watch myself being thrown backwards into varying clouds, as I'm sent from above downtown, to above the Bay on the edge of Metropolis. And she doesn't relent or resist to follow me, as I catch a glimpse of her flying towards me once again. This time, however, I don't expect to let her be the first to attack.

I duck as she vaults towards me, and grab her by both wrists.

"What crimes?!", I yell.

She doesn't respond by struggling. No, that'd be too easy for me to expect, I guess. Instead, she slams her forehead into my face, nearly breaking my nose. Nearly. Which is too close, in itself, considering the only person to ever suceed in coming that close was General Zod...

"Don't play games with me!", She continues to yell, sending another powerful right hook to my face. "I know all about you! How you plan to invade Earth and seize it for youself! How you're just playing hero to throw everyone off! That isn't going to work any longer, Superman! I know what you really are!"

What in god's name is she talking about?

"What in god's name are you talking abo-"

Warbird doesn't even let me finish, as she punches me again. And again. By the fifth of sixth hook, I've already come to the conclusion that reasoning with her is nothing more than a lost cause, at this point. She's convinced that her own words are the truth. Though, that doesn't mean I can't try...

I grab one of her fists as she goes in for a seventh. Ma and Pa always taught me to never fight women. A bit of a dated morality, given how brutal today's times are, but it's one I still try to subscribe to. However, Warbird is barely giving me a choice.

"LISTEN TO ME!", I yell, as we circle in flight. "I don't know where you got any of those ideas, but they're wrong! I'm not out to hurt people! I'm out to help them!"

"I got them from Lex Luthor.", She responds, gritting her teeth. "And today only confirmed that he was right!"

I pause.

"...What?"

She punches me, twice, before kneeing me in the chest.

"All of those stories he told America. About how you were making all of us a direct target? Any of that ring a bell?!", She continues, as I try to block another one of her punches. "I should've known, back when Zod killed all of those people in Chicago! He did it because of you! And now that thing down there is attacking the city for the same reason! To get to you!"

I listen to her words. And as much as I know how inaccurate some of them are, that last part catches my attention. Because I'm beginning to realise that maybe... she's right. Maybe I am responsible. But all of that contemplation fades, as I'm hit again.

"It's only going to stop when you pay the price! And I'm going to make sure you do!"

What she's saying doesn't make any sense. On one hand, it seemed like she was attacking me because she believed me to be some sort of alien tyrant. But now, it seems she's attacking me because I indirectly caused Zod and Metallo's attacks. It's as if she doesn't even know why she's really attacking m-

...

"You don't really know why you're doing this, do you?", I ask, flying above her, then around her, before she can punch me.

"Of course I do!", She responds, infuriated.

"Then why?", I ask. "Is it because I'm some sort of threat to the world, or because I attract them? Am I evil? Or just a magnet for it?"

She pauses, for a second.

"I... Maybe you're both! Maybe you're all caught in some kind of power struggle!", She continues, confused for a moment.

"Or maybe it's neither.", I respond. "Maybe Luthor was wrong, and I'm not the enemy. Maybe I'm just trying to help the world with a set of powers I never asked for."

She looks away, absently.

"You know something about that, don't you?", I ask, flying closer. "You wouldn't have attacked me if you didn't think it would help the world. And I don't think you were given your powers willingly, either."

She looks at me, just as angrily as before.

"No.", She states, before her anger fades. "-I don't know if I was. I barely remember anything about my-"

Then she pauses again. And the anger suddenly returns.

"Wait a minute. You're... you're trying to confuse me...", Warbird says, as her entire body begins to glow in an odd aura that even I have to shield my eyes from. "THAT WAS YOUR MISTAKE!"

I'm hit with an energy I've never felt before, as it touches my chest and explodes, sending me flying towards Suicide Slum. There's got to be a way to get her to stop... I don't really think she's another one of those maniacs that have attacked us in the past. I think she just wants to do the right thing. Even if, in her mind, the right thing is killing me.

That thought is put on hold, as I crash into the streets below, feeling as a crater forms beneath me. I'm the Slums, now. Too far away from downtown. And while I need to stop Metallo, I've still got Warbird after me. Have to figure out how to ease this problem...

I push myself up, looking into the sky as Warbird flies after me. How is she getting so much power, anyway? Was she always gifted with that? Because if she was, she doesn't have much of a reason to attack me... I don't think even I'm that powerful.

...

Wait. The flight speed. The strength. I know where I've felt it before. And that burst of energy. Not exact, but close enough to heat vision... Good lord, she's manipulating my powers. Which means...

I fly upwards, as she continues to rocket towards me. But by the time we reach, I don't attack. I don't even touch her. I dodge, as she flies past me, and flips, looking up. I smile at the look on her face. Seems I've hit a nerve...

She flies upwards, trying to hit me. I simply back away, missing it. She looks at me, frustrated. Then she tries to attack again, swinging numerous different punches towards me. I use my speed to avoid each one of them, before I finally fly around her. She seems to almost growl, as she turns, looking back at me.

"Fight me, coward!", She exclaims, throwing a punch towards me. "Prove me right!"

I duck it, flying beneath her, and around her again.

"No.", I respond. "Because you're wrong."

"LIAR!", She yells.

"Alright, then. Let me ask you something. If Lex Luthor is so right about me, and I really am here to seize humankind... why am I taking my time?"

I fly closer, again, now that I feel as if I have her attention. But I still keep a distance, knowing what I know about her powers now.

"I've been Superman for around a year, now. And in that time, I've fought everything from a giant green monster, to a gigantic robot, to the only other surviving member of my own race. Can you recall once, in that time, that I've tried to do anything aside from help other people?"

"Yes.", She states, looking at me. "You failed to help other people, once. My brother was in Chicago when Zod attacked in your name. And you weren't there to stop him."

I remain silent, for a long moment, as I already feel the guilt overcome me. I don't even know who the man is, and I feel guilty for not being able to prevent his death. Or this woman's pain, for that matter. But I guess, at least I know why she's been attacking me, now.

"If you're so dedicated to helping other people, then help me understand why you couldn't save my brother.", She continues, bitterly.

"I... can't.", I answer. "I can't make you understand something that I don't even remember. Not a day goes by when I don't wonder where I was, or what I was thinking when that massacre occured. All I can do is... well, offer my apologies. And say that if I could've taken the city's place on that dark day... I would've."

She looks at me. I can't tell whether she's either considering what I just said, or considering how many more ways she can attack me and eventually kill me. But both of us are interrupted as we turn, hearing a loud noise boom from downtown. Metallo's still wreaking havoc, and the others haven't taken him down yet. I have to help them. Have to keep fighting, before he hurts someone else...

"Prove it."

I turn back around, facing her.

"You heard me. Prove that you're so dedicated to helping them as you say you are.", She continues. "...And that you're capable of actually doing so."

I don't even give her time to finish, before I've flown off, heading back towards downtown. I don't have to prove anything to her... but... I want to. Because if she's right about me, then there's no point in trying. Which is exactly why I need to.

"Do you have everything you require?"

I shrug the pack on my shoulder, feeling the weight of my equipment. "Yes."

"Very well." The three of us continue to walk across the tarmac in the dark night. The moon only partially visible, helping little with the light on the small runway. "I am somewhat surprised that you agreed to fly on my private jet."

"Why?"

"Because you hardly know me. How can you be sure you can trust me?"

"I don't. But what choice do I have?" Ras just nods. The door of the jet splits in the middle, opening. We wait for the steps to touch the ground.

I take a step forward only to receive a massive backhand to the chest. I look up at Ubu as I sit on the ground. "The master always goes first!" he says with disgust.

I see a slight smile on Ras' face. "Again, I must apologize for Ubu's actions. But he is only looking out for me." Ras walks up the steps. Ubu follows, taking a moment to look back at me as if I were a bug.

"That's one," I say under my breath. I follow them up the steps. The door closes behind me and the engines wine as they rev up to speed.

Next stop: India.

I'm trying to smash a hole into this metal monster's skin while Jay's speed starts to lift us into the air.

"Get....the....****....off me! Old timer!"

Old timer? He's went too far now. I ram my shield into his chest area and start to pull out wire.

"Leave me alone!"

I feel a metallic arm grabs me around the waist and throws me through the air and off in the distance. Right before I hit the pavement. I feel a pair of slender, strong arms grab me and lift me into the air and sit me down on the street.

"What?"

"You might want to be more careful next time, Steven."

"Thak you, Diana. I believe a giant metallic monster awaits us, shall we?"

I see Steve go flying through the air and I stop running. Metallo falls to the ground, then stands back up. "That's bett-" A girder slams into the back of his skull.

"Dammit!"

"Found it," I say with a shrug.

Metallo spins around. His hand slams down on top of me. "Found you too." But even with facial expressions, his surprise is obvious when I phase through his hand.

Damn, what is this thing made off?
I've never had to vibrate so fast to get through something. He almost got me with that attack. I underestimated him.

I run up his arm as he tries to slap me. But he doesn't have a chance. He's fast, but I'm so much faster. I'm on top of his head and running down his back where he can't reach. That's when his body electrifies and I'm thrown into the air, my nerve endings on fire.

The ground rushes up at me...

The ground rushes up at me...
"Kate! Flash!"

I'm running down the street after Metallo while Kate somehow manages to save Flash from becoming street pizza.

"Got em."

"Good girl."

Metallo's hand flys through the air and grabs Kate around her waist and picks her up off the ground.

"Dammit! Kate....you doing alright?"

"F***k you, Ollie!"

"Maybe after were done, honey."

I reach into my quiver and pull out an Arrow with a giant slab of metal instead of a arrow tip. The magnetic arrow, I don't know what the hell I was thinking when I came up with this, but it's a good thing I did. I string it and pull back.....It flys through the air and smacks on Metallo's head with a resounding ping. He's a computer at heart and nothing screws up a computer like a magnet. Metallo starts to wobble and he starts to fall to the ground. Kate's flying through the air.

"Dammit, Dammit, Dammit!"

I run and leap through the air, catching Kate around the waist and landing on top of her in the middle of the road.

"Now...what was that you said about f**king me?"

Im quite in a state of shock, they all seem so self aware, instinctively knowing whatto do and how to work together. I on the other hand am as green as can be, and i must look like a ocmplete moron, just hovering here while everybody pounds at the robot creature. They seem to be doing well too, as the robot is about to fall....and then I see the Flash. I need to get to him now. It was part of my deal with Mephisto to save John Smith.

My mind goes white with horror........The robot falls to the ground...in a flash, it explodes. The explosion eminated from a green crystal rock inside of the robot itself, and in the process it took 5 city blocks with it and incinerated every life form there. cap, the flash, the green arrow and arrowette, myself,...even Superman. If anyone was invincible, I thought it be Superman, but somehow, the explosion of energy from that green rock that was powering the bomb inside of the robot was able to kill him.

The world flashes back and I watch as the robot is in the process of falling....the bomb is about to explode, I think to call for Superman, but he's busy with the lady in the black one piece, and even if he wasn't, the bomb would still kill him before he could get it free of Metropolis, but ts something Superman would do. He would sacrifice himself for us. It was my turn to do the same.

I can no longer sit on the sidelines, and nobody else on the scene, is powerful enough to burst into the robots chest cavity and get the bomb away before it can go off. It falls to me.....

Knowing I'm out of options I can think of only one thing to say..."This look slike a job for...Captain Marvel..."

and as fast as i can, i fly straight into the robot....i have moments before the bomb goes off, and nobody even knows its coming....

It pained him. Truly. Back in his heyday, he fought alongside Captain America. Against the Nazis. Against those villians who sought to overthrow and subvert the Earth. But now, he was confined to an underground lair, drained of most of his power, forced to watch as other battled those he once did. Worse, Galactus was coming. He could sense the Herald...and there was only one way to stop it. Luckily Captain Marvel was proving adept at his mission so far, but there was still so much to do. It was not his role. For thousands of years, he was the protector. not the one to be protected, but he could not leave yet. If he did, then truly ALL would be lost...And all the man in the hospital gown could do....was sit here...let others fight his battles...and wait.

It's been three weeks since I escaped Prison. Managed to steal myself a little boat in New York, headed out as far as I could.

My name is William Baker, although to everyone in the underground criminal world, and the a**holes who kept me locked up, I'm Flint Marko.

When I was five, my dirtbag dad ran out on my mom and me, left us to fend for ourselves. Mom was never well, always sick. She couldn't support us...

So I started stealin' things, little things. Anythin' I could get my hands on. Until I was 15 they mostly ignored it when I pummeled the other kids at school into giving me their lunch money - pathetic chump change, but I needed it more than them.

The poorest kid in school, and never allowed to forget it. Then they said enough was enough, I was expelled. Mom was so dissapointed, she had wanted me to get a good job out of education.

So I got involved with some criminal gangs, nothing huge. Until I ended up working for someone called Silvermane. Then I was in with the big boys...

Wonder what happened to him, the guy was pretty damn old, probably pushin' up dasies, who knows?

Anyways, I ended up in Rikers. It was hell in there, seein' the kind of things that went on in there...

Not somethin' I want to see again. I got out, and I won't be caught - I WON'T BE.

I need to get back to mom. She needs someone to look after her. She needs someone with the POWER to make her better...

And something happened on this beach, I don' understan' what yet.

"Something that gives me that power"
