The summer of 1978 was a magical one indeed when I first sat in the movie theatre at ten years old and watched Superman the movie for the first time. I remember being very excited about seeing it, not really knowing what to expect. I loved the opening theme right away, but once the movie began I thought it was a bit scary: those three evil villians being banished to the Phantom Zone and the destruction of Krypton. I remember feeling bad for Ursa for being a woman who had to suffer the same fate as Non and General Zod. But she did seem very evil and deserving of the punishment.
I loved all of the Smallville stuff and young Clark. But it wasn't until Clark arrived in Metropolis and I saw Margot Kidder for the first time that I became hooked and really intrigued with the movie. And no matter what anyone says about her, that will never change for me. Here was this spunky, attractive, sarcastic and reckless woman, who stole every scene she was in. Her boldness with Clark was priceless, her infatuation with Superman -- superb!!!! The flying sequence brought a huge smile to my face. And as she recited Can You Read My Mind as they flew in the air, I was nearly in tears. And then when she was in danger, her screams of terror were both thrilling and comical. She was just the best Lois Lane to me. And she and Chris Reeve had incredible chemistry, which is why their scenes worked so well. And finally, when Lois died because Superman forgot about her, I did cry and HATED Superman for saving everyone but her. Again, Margot was brilliant in the earthquake and death scenes. Supes redeemed himself in my eyes when he reversed time and saved the love of his life. I left that theatre feeling like I had just seen the best movie I would ever see in my lifetime. And all these years later, it is still my favorite. And I think Margot Kidder has never received enough praise and recognition for her brilliant work!!!! Bravo Margot!!!! |

Yeah, she was great. She did a wonderful job as Lois Lane.

What was up with Kidder's changing looks?
She was very cute in Superman 1 and some parts of 2, looked ill in 3 and very haggard in 4. Has anyone else noticed that? Reeve changed during the films- but he didnt look as haggard as Kidder did in 4. |

I thought Kidder was great as Lois. Rather than Lois being a girly-girl she was headstrong and sarcastic. I do prefer non-smokers though.

I caught some parts of STM on Family Channel the other day - Margot was a bit scary-looking at times (just IMHO, I think it was her teeth and smile), but damn, she was spunky. It was impossible not to like her, and I really did like her.

She just seemed to play it perfectly, but I never trully appreciated just how good a Lois Lane Margot Kidder was until I saw Teri Hatcher play her, (I just felt she was too annoying and whiney) and then when I saw the screen tests of some of the other actresses who went for the part on the DVD, Leslie-Ann Warren was so over the top.
