Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, revealed at Tokyo Game Show today, is a brand new PSP game that expands the story of the franchise not by looking forward, but by looking back. This prequel stars a character that strongly resembles (but is not) Zack from Final Fantasy VII (and most recently, Crisis Core). In addition, we see a character that appears to be a clone of Roxas -- but that's impossible, considering the massive time difference between Birth by Sleep and the original console games. Certainly, there's a lot of mysteries surrounding this upcoming title.
As this preview video shows, the game features a much darker and sinister feel than the console predecessors. The character designs feature a rougher look, especially the main villains, featured above. The new hero, being of a much older age than the previous heroes, also adds a much more mature feel to the overall presentation. The new keyblade also feels much more menacing, being able to shoot projectiles rather quickly. From the little we got to see at Tokyo Game Show, it seems as though the gameplay of Birth by Sleep will most closely follow the PS2 originals of the new Kingdom Hearts games announced today. This is easily the most technologically impressive Kingdom Hearts game announced today, and although it's not a next-gen sequel, this PSP iteration looks to satiate the needs of the Kingdom Hearts gamers everywhere. |

Following in the footsteps of the Game Boy Advance's KH: Chain of Memories, the first DS game in the series has been given the oh-so-Japanese title, Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days. It is unclear at this time how that is supposed to be pronounced. The clip Square Enix showed, a montage of cut scenes and gameplay footage, began with the phrase, "The time of the other side…"
We see Sora, apparently a few years older now as he looks like a teenager. He is wrapped in a black cloak and is being led by a dark figure before a council of similarly dressed men of dubious disposition. Cut to Mickey Mouse in the woods, also dressed in a black cloak, dealing some damage with his Merlin sword and looking way more badass than Mickey Mouse ever should. Sora seemed to be conflicted with what the council was asking him to do. The brief glimpse ended with Sora, now seated at the council, watching apprehensively as a new cloaked figure approached. This time it was a girl, although her face was hidden behind a hood. The mood of the whole piece was, decidedly, dark. Unfortunately, of the three new Kingdom Hearts games, Square Enix showed the least of the DS title. That could mean it is still early in development. Hopefully it will be less than 358/2 Days before we have more details. |

All I know about KH:coded, is that in the trailer, Jimney cricket is reading his diary, then runs to tell King Mickey something. The King then proceeds to create a virtual version of Sora, and puts him into a wierd virtual world. So, in short, it'll be a bit like the matrix..but with disney and spikey haired kids

i must admit as much as i love this series, i am getting pissed at this new trend they seem to want to force. i dont mind side story's but i hate this crap of having to buy multiple games on multiple systems to just get the full story

Yeah it pisses me off too. Why can't they just stick to one console type?!

IA. This seems to be more a SE thing. They are doing it with FF as well. It would make sense at least to keep it on the same companies's platforms like PS3/PS2//PSP or Wii/DS/GBA instead of PS2/DS. That right there irritates me

I hate it too. Although KH3 will be coming out on PS3 (which I won't get) so I don't mind if they make some KH games for the DS or Wii (please).

You gotta figure that by the time KH3 is released (Not even close and still in concept apparntly) that the PS3 will be much cheaper.
Hopefully. |

I'm not spending $400 on a system for one game.

I don't know, I figure that by then theres bound to be a buncha games that are in the 20-30$ section that are good, like Lair, Heavenly Sword, Resistance, so on and so forth that I can pick up for cheap to pad the games I have for the system out.

Yeah, and from a purely financial point of view, it doesnt seem to make much sense for the company. They've got an established fan base on the PS2. They know the people who've played the previous games and are likely to buy sequels/prequels already have that console; so why release new games for the franchise on a new system?
