Now let me state that I realize that the IM movie is over a year away, but after buying and viewing the newest animated IM dvd, I have some real worries about the live action movie. First off I see this animated feature as an introduction to the some of the main characters in the IM universe for lots of people. Also this stroy has quite a few elements in it that have all ready been confirmed for the live action version. Having said all that the animated dvd was just plain awful. This dvd may be some viewers first introduction or reintroduction to Iron Man, and it's not good. And when people start to hear about the similarities in the story lines between these 2 feature, it won't help any of the buzz for the live action movie. I honestly can't belive that Marvel let this thing be released. I'm hoping and many of you will say that dvd will have no impact, but I think Marvel just made a big mistake that could bite the live action movie in the butt.

well, for me, as a new Iron Man fan, the DVD was a sort of "introduction" to Iron Man.
overall, I thought it was quite good, but, since they took quite a few liberties with the back story, I can understand why some IM fans would be dissappointed. i just hope the movie will be 100 times better than the animated DVD..........

If the live action movie is good, it'll make money no matter what. Maybe not Spider-Man money, but enough for a sequel, I'm sure. Look at BB, that had the worst lead-in movie ever with B&R, yet it still did quite well. I highly doubt the IM animated movie will do much at all.

My biggest worry is RDjr looking to aged. Another worry of mine is it being overhyped with its cast, a la DareDevil. But mostly, it's his suit. I want him to wear the original suit and not the one there designing. Damnit, to me he looks like Mega Man in that new design!

I just hope it's not like the animated movie at all.
The other thing is that it's an origin film which is kind of getting old hat. It's like the origin movie has to be done first and the really good stuff can't happen until the sequel. So I hope this doesn't feel like an obligatory and pedestrian origin film like Fantastic Four which was pretty bad.

My IM worries:
That the script does not stay true to the spirit of the comics. That the cast, namely Robert Downey Jr and Terrance Howard, do not stay true to the spirit of the characters in their performances. That Jon Favreau's inexperience with a film of this size and scope results in a film that feels "smaller" and less epic than it should. That Mandarin is treated as IM's answer to Ra's al Ghul in BB. |

I think it's encouraging to know that Favreau threw out all the dumb story crap they were planning before he was brought on. So they started fresh.
I guess the gist of it is that the story will be an update of Iron Man's origin like the new animated movie but without any mystical/supernatural elements. I do really hope Mandarin will come off well and not as some sort of evil CEO/businessman type because that ain't the Mandarin.

my biggest fear is that the DVD is actually going to be better than the movie. first off you have good ol FAVERAU doing it... and that is about as odd as RATNER and XMEN!!! What in FAV's movie credits show us he can handle this? second off... who is the studio marketing this film too? Well they got the director of ELF on the project and they released a DVD that had art of a 7th grader! So bigger element of the Tony Stark will be left out. they have said he will have "A" Love interest???!!?!?!?!?! A????? He is TONY STARK!!!!! and they said they are not going to use "alcoholism" as a main story point. Marvel has an issue with letting their characters being born through fire! The comics show us that each character is born through some major demons and gritty situations!!! But once we get to see them on the screen we have a WOLVERINE that looks more like a angry kitten!!!! so expect this movie to be a FLUFFY version of one of the most self destructive characters in marvel comics!! It is just like FF2... they said they are going to adapt ULTIMATE STORY line but then they immediately shot down the idea of doing the "MASS SUICIDES", and that was by far one of the best parts!

Just as a recommendation to see what Favreau can do, try watching the first movie he directed, Made.

On Paper this is shaping up to be a fantastic movie, so I currently have no worries, the next time that could come where a worry could ensue is if the trailers suck

He was like that for a minute (under the alias Zhang Tong), so don't be surprised if they go there in the film with the excuse "it happened in the comics".

My IM worries are: everything.
Iron man is adventurous (70s-80s) fun. There is nothing realistic about IM and I hope they don't go totally overboard on the tech side to make the character seem realistic. Adventure, jetsetting, real superhero battles on land and in the air. The nature of IM, like SM and Supes demand a lot of sfx. Sfx is another word for $$$ in Hollywood. The cast was chosen for star power or familiarity as opposed to actually fitting the role. |

Me personally i dont want a complete origin movie either, I liked the way they did it in daredevil. His origin was a flashback, i'd like them to do the same with this.
Or even batman, his backstory was a flashback too.

I am so worried about this movie is is scary. I think they jumped way to fast into the alcohol thing in the first movie and they could have moved it to the second.
They actors are way too old and they didn't follow the story in terms of age at all. They went with famous actors and generally, these movies are better off with lesser knowns. The armor should be the original grey until mid way through the movie and go to gold and orange. By movie two, introduce war machine for rhody and then red and silver armor. By movie three movie to the most current armor. For any new Iron man fans, don't look at any material until you read the Official History of the Marvel Universe entry for all of the Iron man characters or do a search on wikipedia for all the characters, then start reading comics. It is the only way to understand the characters. As for an update, all they had to do was keep the story and instead of VietNam use Iraq with updated minor characters to be Middle Easern instead of Asian. I am not excited as most Marvel movies have proved to be dogdoo. FF, Hulk, Daredevil, have been really bad. Of note, for those who think I don't know my history, I have been reading comics for 30 years. Simply, I was reading before it was popular to read. I know these stories inside and out and in many cases, the only thing some of thse movies have in common with the comics are the names of the characters. Go read the original origins in the Marvel Universe. You will be suprised. Hulk was the worst movie ever for comics. X-Men (1-3) were awful. Go read the real stuff. you will understand. |

1st off there's a worrywart thread in every forum. What the F is there to be worried about??? It's a damn movie. You can worry 24-7 for the next 10 years and it won't make a difference. The movies gonna be made how it's made. Just be gratefull if you're an Iron Man fan that someone is taking the time to make a film. Of course this film will BE Iron Man. It'll cover all the important source material and yes there will be changes, things you don't expect, etc...Why? Because this is a 100+ million dollar film and not a 50's comic book. There is nothing to worry about. There are better things in life to worry about like job stability, global warming, staying healthy, etc...But worried about a movie? LOL
What has Favreau done? He's made nothing but quality films. Now he has mass market material in the hottest genre. Of course it'll be good. BTW what did Raimi do on the caliber of Spiderman beforehand? Jackson prior to Lord of the Rings, etc...Every director has their first huge film. Favreau had his w/Elf, then he made a great little sci-fi flick Zathura which flew under the radar. You know good and well Iron Man will not fly under the Radar. This is an event pic with a huge marketing campaign. |

It's the storyline that should concern everyone. They did manage to deliver an idiotic storyline on the Invincible Iron Man DVD. Given the fundamentals of the character, I thought that was virtually impossible to do and yet they pulled it off. Not following the comic storyline has nothing to do with the poor writing of the animated DVD. The true worry lies in the fact that the writers even brag that they came up with something better on the DVD extras. Having the armors already built before Stark's capture is asinine. Why wouldn't Stark just suit up and find Rhodes? (Their rational is stupid. How can Tony build an armor in 2-3 weeks? Easy, he's a genius and it just has to be good enough to stabilize his heart and escape. Want more armors? One sentence printed at the bottom of the screen takes care of any logic flaws ... "Six Months Later." Also, the fugitive aspect and the lack of a showdown with the Mandarin just kill the story. The bad news is Avi Arad was a direct creative consultant on the DVD. The good news that the writers are quoted as saying that Avi made them include "more action." The finished product is light on action. So, I would've hated to see what they had in mind. As long as they don't repeat the mindless mistakes of the DVD, this production will be fine. |

I don't get why a crappy animated DVD has anything to do with the movie. Case in point, Ultimate Avengers sucked, but the Ultimates comic is still great.

^ The animated DVD and the feature film are only related by name and the source material. You can't tell the quality of one by looking at the other. Period. Anyone who sits up at night worried needs meds.
