Joel Silver is producing a heist-come-chase film called White Out. It's apparently a bit like Hard Rain, but instead of being set amidst torrential floods, it all goes down in the middle of a calamitous snowstorm; and it's also a bit like Insomnia in that the Antarctic setting is about to be plunged into months of darkness as the story gets underway. Kate Beckinsale is reportedly set to star as US Marshall Carrie Stetko, our heroine in pursuit of the robber-killers. These plot details may be a little off the mark, I'm afraid, but here's the easy way to check them out: the film is an adaptation of Greg Rucka's 1999 Eisner Award-winning comic book miniseries of the same name. more on the story... http://www.gregrucka.com/whiteout.html You can't get any further down than the bottom of the world—Antarctica. Cold, desolate, nothing but ice and snow for miles and miles. Carrie Stetko is a U.S. Marshal, and she's made The Ice her home. In its vastness, she has found a place where she can forget her troubled past and feel at peace.... Until someone commits a murder in her jurisdiction and that peace is shattered. The murderer is one of five men scattered across the continent, and he has more reason to hide than just the slaying. Several ice samples were taken from the area around the body, and the depth of the drilling signifies something particular was removed. Enter Lily Sharpe, who wants to know what was so important another man's life had to be taken for it. But are either of the women prepared for the secrets and betrayals at the core of the situation?

Wasn't Reese Witherspoon supposed to do this movie like five years ago?

Sena Directing Beckinsale in Whiteout Source: Production Weekly January 30, 2007 Dominic Sena (Swordfish, Gone in Sixty Seconds) is set to direct Whiteout, an Antarctic whodunit adapted from a series of graphic novelsby Greg Rucka, reports Production Weekly. Didn't any of you read the comic-book this movie is based on?
It's good, written by Greg Rucka and at a certain point something not so nice happens to the main character, Carrie.

Hey there:
First, to those of you recommending the books, thanks! I'm really proud of having illustrated them, and it means a lot to see that they're still being talked about. Second, I hope this sort of transparent shilling isn't heavily frowned upon here, but for those of you who haven't read WHITEOUT, our publisher Oni Press is going to re-issue the first issue of the first series as a giveaway for Free Comic Book Day. If you haven't read it yet, here's the whole first issue at my site. Best, Steve Lieber Last edited by Steve Lieber; 08-08-2009 at 04:26 PM. |

Whiteout at Amazon.
And I'll include links to a comic shop too, because they've been the ones supporting the book all this time: Things from Another World. (Again, apologies if coming on the boards and doing this is obnoxious. If I'm breaking a rule here, go ahead and delete my post.) Last edited by Steve Lieber; 08-08-2009 at 04:31 PM. Sounds cool, so it's a comic book? I also saw its a book as well.
And Kate is in it, so I will be seeing it. Anyone read the comic any good?

Shouldn't this be in the Misc. Comic Book Films section?

Yes.
Now Warner has 2 comic-book movies in 2008. Whiteout and The Dark Knight. Will they make a triplet with Watchmen?

Now that I'm all done gnawing on Speedball in Civil War: Frontline, my current projects are widely varied. I'm designing a bunch of floats for an indoor parade at a Japanese amusement park. I've got a comic about the 1962 escape from Alcatraz that I'm illustrating for the California Parks Commission. And after that, I'm finally going to to get back to UNDERGROUND, a thriller that Jeff Parker (Agents of Atlas) and I have been working on. (There was a short story teaser for this in the Four Letter Worlds anthology that Image put out a couple of years ago.) And to Bastila- It's only a comic. Comics people (like me) have a bad habit of using the words "comic," "graphic novel" and "book" interchangably. To be exact: Whiteout was a 4 issue limted comic book series that was collected into a paperback graphic novel. Same with the sequel, Whiteout:Melt. |

So for anyone that's read the graphic novel, would the movie be spoiled if read ahead of time?
