Exclamation Poltergeist, great movie or greatest movie ever...in the world?

Ok, so the title might be over selling it a tad. but I can I really be blamed? the original poltergeist had everything. it had the guy that played "coach" ( Craig T. Nelson for those people playing at home) the girl from Happy Days that when you saw her on Hapy Days you went "oh that's the girl from Poltergeist" and that in itself is pretty Ironic.
and several elements of the action/adventure genre typical from the 80's you know? the large "adversary" creature at the end, some very neat special effects that while laughable in this day and age where pretty cool 25 years ago.

and who can forget Zelda Rubinstein?
Not me, no matter how hard I've tried and how many therapy sessions a week I have to pay.

plus, lest we forget, we're talking about a movie so badass that It killed 3 of it's stars and burned alive several of it's crew ( though the crew died making Poltergeist III and well, maybe it was a suicide brough on by the overwhelming shame of being involved in poltergeist III, who knows?)
overall, I've seen this movie recently, and I can say that thoug some of the moments I once found creepy kind of made me laugh, it is still a very good movie and a highly recomended one

I rediscovered it a while back.
I then bought 2 and forgot how good it is.

The thing I love most about the movies is (Aaaaw) the love between the husband and wife.
That's why 2 was so geniusly haunting, seeing the husband possessed and mistreating his wife, after seeing what a beautiful couple they were.
It's also why all copies of 3 should bear a warning label:
"Only watch this feature if you are among the most jaded and tolerant fans of beneath contemptibly atrocious and depressing pieces of s*** movies"

Jo Beth Williams is the hottest MILF in the universe btw. The term came into usage shortly after Poltergeist came out.

Poltergeist is when you say "80's-Type movie" in a good way, like ET, or The Thing.

I was amazed to see how bad the effects are. I had a memory of seeing them as a kid and being blown away.
Though the whispy white spidery thing still looks wicked, I think.

this was one of the things I pointed out to a friend I was watching the movie with.
she was HAWT
and Poltergeist III is horrible, I mean, Tom Skerrit is the dad.

And, sorry to be "shallow", but seeing the little girl's bloated face is anything but easy/entertaining.
I believe it was caused by the medical condition that killed her, I think.

I thougt an impacted bowel and septic shock killed her.
either way, poltergeist III just pissed me off.
it just killed the mythology as far as I'm concerned, plus, correct me if I'm wrong, but the spirits, ghosts, whatever, just kind of ****ed with people's heads and wanted the little girl to "join them"or some such non sense but III was the only one where they went around killing people

I really like this movie too.
It doesn't have cheap scares, every scene has a nice build up and a great payoff.
The SFXs are really good, sure the strobe lights behing the doors look kinda clumsy now, but where else are you going to get a walking steak and an imploding house in the same place?

Doesn't the Implode-House still look amazing? Can't remember.
The worst is the lazy animation of the Hulk riding a horse, lol.

the imploding house still looks pretty kickass, and when contextualized it must've been a trip to see something like that on a big theater screen in 1982.
I saw this flick like 2 days ago and I was still thinking about it today when I saw the "Hills have eyes 2, the hills have eyes yet again" thread, and I was like "why can't we have more movies like Poltergeist anymore?"

The house impoding is classic, I actually like the Hulk scene, for me the laziest scene was the guy ripping his face off, sure its an awesome visual but the skin colors but match and the real arms stick out from below very muppet-like.

I wish the 30 minutes from 2 would be found and put into a directors cut.
