If Firefly Gets An MMO

I think Buffy and Angel deserve a nice next-gen free roam game. Seriously, I love Firefly/Serenity, but let's look at this objectively. It was a failure. The show failed, regardless of it's massive DVD sales, and the movie was the same. Yes, it was never really given a chance, and it could have been great, but that's simply not what happened. Buffy on the other hand has been cancled for years, and can still sell 100,000 comics in a single day. Angel is getting a new season in comic form now too, due to the crazy success of Buffy Season 8. So, if Firefly, a failed show, can get an MMO based on it, I think Buffy and Angel deserve a nice new next-gen free roamer.

Here's my idea:

You pick to play as Angel or Buffy at the beginning. If you pick Angel, you start out in LA, if you pick Buffy, Sunnydale. You play half of the story as each character, it could be set in any season (probably Season 6/7 of Buffy and 3/4 of Angel, it would just work best, and allow for maximum character usage).

Also, depending on who you choose, there will be small side missions where you get to play as each member of the scoobies/angel's avengers for a period of time. Each character would have there own unique style. So if you played as say, Willow for a mission, you'd be mad powerful, but if you got hit, that would be the end of that, and there would be the chance of loosing control and going all crazy, killing everything around you, and losing. If you play as Spike you aren't able to hit anything but demons/the undead without losing health points yourself, due to the chip in your head. Also, after you beat the game as a character, you are then allowed to free roam as any member of there crew that you so choose. Unlockables=replay value, as would having 14 unique characters to play as.

So, any comments? Suggestions? Anyone want to give me money and a team so I can make this game and then masturbate over it for the rest of my life?

You know, I love Firefly, but it doesn't deserve an MMO. It hasn't built a large enough universe to warrant one. With stuff like Star Wars, you can actually say to yourself "do I want to be a rebel fighter? A merc, like Han? A jedi? Work for the empire?" With Firefly, all you've got is "do I want to be an outlaw transport ship, or an operative?"

It'd make for one hell of a action video game, though. Just not an MMO.

As for a free-roaming sandbox Buffy game? I'd love it. Game developers are starting to catch on that gamers like being able to explore and freely's wander around their environments, whether for a mission, or just to have fun travelling (stealing cars in GTA, swinging in Spider-Man 2, leaping in Hulk:UD and Crackdown). A game where I can explore the whole of Sunnydale (and not just the magic shop or a 50-sq.foot block, like in Chaos Bleeds) would be fine by me.

A free-roaming Buffy/Angel game would be a wet dream. I'd kill for the chance to free roam and kill demons/vampires with the Scoobies and Fang Gang.

I'd love a truly great Buffy or Angel game. Chaos Bleeds just didn't cut it.

who knows, maybe after the season 8 comics we could get a Buffy: Season 9game.

I will slit anyones throat for any continuity from Angel. A game, show, comic you name it. Life's not the same without Angel.

guess you havent heard, with the success of Buffy Season 8 the comic, Angel Season 6 the comic was recently confirmed, coming from IDW after the mini-series Spike: Shadow Puppets...in continuity, co-written by Whedon in the same fashion as Buffy Season 8
