Default Kurt Sutter (The Shield) to direct Punisher sequel?!?!?!

http://www.comics2film.com/FanFrame.php?f_id=25807

(See page 17 of 36 above for snippet)

I actually hope a guy like this gets the role. Someone who can tell an awesome story with limited budget. Also he's surely someone still trying to prove himself to get to bigger and better things.

From IMDB:

Biography for

Kurt Sutter

Born in the shadow of Rahway Prison, Kurt Sutter was raised in the homogeneous splendor of the Jersey suburbs. He honed his storytelling skills at an early age by learning how to tell complex and elaborate lies. None of which ever eased the pain of being a slim-minded kid in a "huskyboy" body. After graduating from Rutgers University with a BA in Film, Kurt spent six years as an actor in NYC, performing in various off off-Broadway theatres, lofts, rooftops and holding cells. He moved to Los Angeles in the early 90s where he began teaching and directing.

That focus eventually brought Sutter back to New York City where he joined the faculty of The Gately-Poole Acting Studio on Theatre Row, teaching the Sanford Meisner Technique and directing productions at The Nat Horne Theatre. In 1995, Kurt was awarded an MFA Fellowship to attend Northern Illinois University. In Chicago, Kurt's exposure to the dramatic masters - Strindberg, O'Neill, Genet - inspired him, and he began writing plays and cultivating ideas for the screen.

After graduating with a Master of Fine Arts, Sutter moved back to Los Angeles where he wrote his first screenplay, "Delivering Gen". "Gen" garnered industry kudos and sold in 2000. Then in 2001, the countless, unmonitored hours spent in front of the TV as a child paid off, when Kurt landed a writing gig on FX's, "The Shield" (2002). Sutter is currently in his fifth season as a writer and Executive Producer on the Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning television show. Along with his work on "The Shield" (2002), Kurt has a two-picture feature deal at Warner Brothers. His first script, "In-Crime", is a gritty drama about LAPD's controversial SIS unit. Training Day (2001) director, Antoine Fuqua and Lorenzo di Bonaventura are producing. The second, The Unforgettable (2008), is a dark thriller based on the source material of the critically acclaimed X-Box 360 game, "Condemned: Criminal Origins".

Kurt lives in Los Angeles with his wife, actor/singer Katey Sagal.
I'm assuming he's the director since Beattie already turned in the script.

Sounds promising. I hope him and Tom Jane make a great team and a huge hit of a movie.

I doubt he's directing it since the only thing he's ever directed is one episode of Shield.

Kurt Sutter is golden when it comes to writing crime dramas. The Punisher just got more appealing.

Jonathan Hensleigh is a writer that never directed anything before The Punisher. So maybe Sutter could be the director, since there's already a writer.

I think this guy is EXACTLY what the Punisher/Thomas Jane need to make one helluva successful sequel. Granted, the first movie did fairly well with niche fans, but this one could really draw some critical praise and while praise from these so-called "Critics" has never meant S$$t to me, it might be just what the doctor ordered to get some more butts in the seats for this one.

On a sarcastic note, if we can just get Chiklis in for a cameo as Vic Mackey, then P2 would be perfect. LOL

He's more than a writer. He's a producer, director and more. So he might be directing it. I hope.

No way. Vince Vaughn would be better for Jigsaw.

I still can't visualize Hauser as Jigsaw. Ive always thought of Jigsaw as loud, clumsy and stupid, contrary to Hauser who seems to have a permanent relaxed disposition. Why do we have to have Jigsasw anyway? Jigsaw to me is that nagging little mutt who always gets his butt royallt kicked. He's really no match for Punisher except the fact he manages to survive all of their encounters. Hmm, I hope the writers realize this and make Jigsaw a side character as opposed to being a main character. He's no mastermind he's just a pawn. Id much rather see Bushwhacker, Sniper, or the Kingpin as the major villain in this film. I dunno, Im taking my time writing my letter to the Punisher film people.

Hmm, what if they bring back the Russian and the Grand Nixon Island story for the third film????

I guess we're all saying Jigsaw because that's who has been said is the villain for the movie. I wouldn't mind other villains, but Bushwacker is pushing it for me with the gun arm. Kingpin would be great, but he's owned by Fox and not LGF. You're right about Hauser having a calm demeanor, but this could be good for the character. It would be a nice change to Jigsaw that can make him a cold calculating villain to take on Frank.

Yupp

Does anyone know how Hensleigh wrote Jigsaw? (Except from movie-star good looks)

I was hoping Joe Carnahan would direct this and get Jason Patric to play Jigsaw.

As much as I liked the first one if they did that I wouldn't watch the second one.
