Now that is sweet, especialy the stuff with Quicksilver

Hitch may take his damn time, but you can't say he doesn't deliver the goods.

Looks great.

But is it really necessary?

It's hardly worth months upon months of waiting.

Meh, its nice, but the fact that 8 page spreads are somewhat of a gimmick at this point and the length of time it took to create the aforementioned 8 page spread has me underwhelmed by the whole thing.

i'm not really concerned with how long it took. i gave up on that title long ago. still, the fact that it's eight ****ing pages is impressive in my book. not to mention that pretty much anything hitch draws impresses me...

Hitch is a great artist, but I've gotta go with Phere on this. If he really wanted to do a super-widescreen splash page, that's great--for a pin-up. It has no place in a would-be periodical series if it's going to slow everything down that much. Things like George Perez's group shots or JR Jr.'s panoramic views in Eternals impress me more because they get them done on time and they look just as good as Hitch's work to me.

Exclamation Re: Hitch's 8 Page Ultimates Spread...

It will officially be 7+ months since #12 when this ships.

Interestingly, whenever someone would expect Joe Q to have a responsible, mature reaction and explaination for why one of their hottest titles was endlessly late, he'd essentially do what every writer who hates responsibility has reflexively done; blame the artist. In a Newsarama rebuttal, though, Hitch seems to be getting miffed at that reply and politely told Joe to check his invoice dates, citing a missing inker and other bits as to why the book was late. There may be more to this than simply Hitch.

From the Blog of Paul O'Brien, who does The X-Axis website as well as sales reports for Marvel:

http://ifdestroyed.blogspot.com/

Ultimates: check your calendars.
Marvel are belatedly starting the promotion for the long-delayed Ultimates 2 #13, which is presumably on its way out sooner or later. (Probably later.) The latest line from Marvel about the delays is basically to shrug their shoulders and say "Dunno, ask Bryan Hitch." Which doesn't seem like the most professional answer, but that's their line.

Bryan Hitch's position is pretty clear - and he now seems to be chafing at Marvel blaming him, since he's publicly telling editor-in-chief Joe Quesada to go back and check his invoice dates. In any event, Hitch says that he finished the book in December 2006, and that it took him nine weeks. Since it's a 44-page story, that's actually quite brisk. The subsequent delays, he says, are because Paul Neary wasn't available to start inking it until January (since he was halfway through Wisdom). Again, that makes sense.

But here's the odd bit.

Hitch first claimed to have finished the book in a message board posting on 11 December 2006. So if it took him nine weeks, and we assume he means nine consecutive weeks, that means he started work around 9 October.

But issue #12 came out in the last week of September. So that would mean he didn't even start on issue #13 until after issue #12 came out. And given the time for inking, lettering, colouring and so forth, he would have been finished on issue #12 a good while before it hit the shelves. (After all, he finished #13 in December, and it's still not out.)

So you've got Bryan Hitch sitting around twiddling his thumbs and doing nothing for a good month or so between issues. Why? Was he waiting on a script?

Whatever, there seems to be plenty of blame to go around. At this point, I don't really care. Marvel's #1 problem in all of this has been what O'Brien mentioned right up there at the beginning: a major lack of professionalism.

True. That's old news, though. As old as the shocking revalation that Don Imus relies on vulgar, racist "humor".

Plus, someone really shouldn't be trying to imitate ANYTHING from ALL-STAR BATMAN.

I can't say I'm impressed with this to be honest. Art's pretty, but with the exception of Quicksilver, the rest is very basic battle poses (and even one QS pose is awkward). I'm to the point with this comic where I don't even care anymore. I plan on getting a quick glance through it at the store, but I don't even care about the story anymore. If something in it catches my eye, I may buy it, but I doubt I will. I like Marvel, and I'll even admit to liking Joe... but the lack of professionalism (as stated earlier) has been getting under my skin of late, and the allowance of tardiness is my main beef. I never bought or even read the last half of Spiderman/Black Cat due to the lateness, and while I was interested in Daredevil Father, I never even started it due to the lateness. Frankly, I don't even care about this book anymore. We'll see when Volume 3 comes around.
