It's usually once a month, but we got one two weeks ago because it was another artist I think. This is fast, maybe the Diamond list is wrong, but it usually isn't.

Itīs the laziest review I've ever read.
But at least we agree that, indeed, Logan looks a bit...wide!

The art for #57 reminds me a lot of Dillon's in Origins. . Maybe that was deliberate.

Just finished reading #57 and I have some problems with it. That tepid review might not be that far off.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
First off, the issue was very predictable. He finds a woman that he says he loves and of course, she never makes it to the end of the issue. You never even get the build up where you see them fall in love. It's like the whole point of her being there is to die.

I also have to wonder how it is that Logan can cling to the bottom of a plane going mach 20 and not fall off?

Plus this really great fighter, one of the Scimitar dudes? You know that has to be Daken or Wild Child in there under that armor. Might be Wild Child since they showed Logan fighting the Germans in the beginning, and in Origins, WC was shown on the side of the Germans before.

Anyhow, I ddin't sense anything new or special, not like last issue where you got to see Logan using his brains instead of his brawn. Maybe this will get better as it goes so far, for me, it's pretty ....meh.

I agree with you Squeek. I was so excited to get this issue... but I feel meh also.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
I agree with Squeek that the artwork was bleh, Wolverine is too wide. The girl.... definately agree. It seems she is only brought into the episode to die. We have had no time to get to know her or bond with her, so why should we care if some random chick dies. It's just to give Logan another (supposed) heart wrenching loss. And the ending.... what was that about?

Hopefully the next issue will set things to rights. Even if I have problems with one issue or one arc, the series as a whole usually holds up. I can forgive a weak arc and there. Loeb's arc was so strong anything that follows is bound to look a little meh.

# 57 was indeed...meh. Didn't like the art, I think Ramos' stuff worked better for Guggenheim. And the girl...really,
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
it was just such a big cliche, Logan-likes-a-girl-girl-dies... C'mon, I'm not against Logan falling in love with some chick, hell I'm all for it, so why is it so difficult to make one of his love interests last for more than an issue?
That "Origins" thingy that all his girls must die, and that anyone who crosses (or has crossed) his path is in one way or the other involved in a big Romulus conspiracy is starting to get on my nerves!
That's the problem with Wolverine these days...the writers seems too lazy to give him a social life, friends, a girlfriend. It's just one big battle after the other. They put Jubes in Origins and they didn't have time to talk for a few pages, renew their friendship...now that girl is gone even before we know a little bit more about her. Damn...
I still have faith in Guggeinheim, though, because I liked his Civil War arc. Let's just wait and see...

I don't know..... I think the way Wolverine is holding himself in the one Venom first posted looks more gay then the one Squeek posted.

Are either of those from actual comics??

Agreed. It seemed like this was more of a setup issue for whoever they're planning to reveal under the Scimitar getup, which hopefully means something better is to come.

And I don't think I want to know where the paper doll image comes from...

Yes, both pics are from actual comics. The first must be from an old Uncanny, mine is from Astonishing. Logan was brainwashed into thinking he was a little child.

^That's almost scarier than the bomb-swallowing that happened in #57.

Logan as a young James Howlett, as written by Joss Whedon, acted more like a little girl than a boy. The way he spoke, and the paper dolls...I can't see James Howlett making paper dolls!
What I liked most about those Astonishing issues was the art - Logan's facial expressions were priceless!

No...heh...I'm old.
Bought 'em as they came out. I've been collecting X-Men related stuff monthly since about 1978. I also paid 25 cents for Hulk #181! Then I cut the Marvel Value Stamp out of it myself. ugh. Pardon me, I must punch myself in the face now...

LOL, I got the first four issues of Wolverine off the shelf and then stopped collecting. I was lucky that when I went back to buy them later, I was lucky to buy some cheaply, many for a dollar or less from shops that were closing.

It feels like they've just changed who he really is so much from that original mini...

That was the character I bought into.

heh... just looked at your profile... sorry I said I was old... you are 5 days older than me.

They have. That original four issue mini is my favorite Wolverine story to date. Back then, he actually tried to control his berserker rages, tried to adhere to a code of honor, new many forms or martial arts besides just hacking and slashing with his claws, and actually had to worry about dying if he got a serious wound.

Now they've just turned him into a glorified punisher with claws that has a ridiculous healing ability.

The only story I've read semi-recently that really seemed to grasp the character of Wolverine was the Origins mini.

Say what you will about bone claws and all that, but in that book it was the first time I'd read a Wolverine comic in a while where Wolverine acted like Wolverine. In my head, Wolverine is essentially a good guy who's had a ****ty life, and his violent animalistic side grew into something he could barely control. He didn't like the violence he created when he let himself go, and he tried to fight it.

Today Wolverine basically seems like a guy who likes to kill people. He just happens to be on the "good guys" side.
