EDIT: Finished the novel.
SPOILER FREE REACTION: I loved it. It's very similar to the leaked script, but enough differences in this to indicate that it's not the final version. So there's going to be some changes with the final film. Whether it's major or not, no one knows at this point. As for my opinion going into this, yes, I've made no qualms about keeping an open mind about the film, looking at this as yet another incarnation of the series. A What If. An Elseworlds (if you're comic fans). I didn't mind most of the changes, not being thrilled at Megatron and Starscream, but definitely coming around with the new images/trailers. All in all, I think it has a good balance of everything. I'm surprised at all the Autobot speeches. Decepticons could use some beefing up admittedly. ------------ SPOILERS FOR THE NOVEL BEGIN BELOW Ok, I just picked up the official novelization from the movie at Books a Million. To begin with, I know a lot of people wanted to know if the beginning and ending were intact. Then, I'll go into some random details that popped out at me that I found interesting. In some cases, this will be spots that clarified things in the script, in others it may be some nice touches. Either way, there's major spoilers to be read here, so keep away if you want to remain spoiler free (even though this is the spoiler forum) ... THE BEGINNING / THE END: - There's no Cybertron scenes from what I can tell, but it's entirely possible given the early screening reports. It opens with a description of the Allspark, so maybe Optimus narrates the history/opening. The discovery of Megatron by Sam's great-great grandfather is still there. - THE ENDING. I skipped to the end, and it does end with Optimus going onto a mountain and sending out a signal/message of hope to the remaining Autobots around the galaxy indicating they have found a new home on Earth. It's not Everest, as the script had, but it's almost exactly word for word the same. ODDS AND ENDS

Yikes. I'm telling you guys... despite the producer's big and loud assertion that they changed the name, I have a feeling The Energon Cube will be called the The Energon Cube in the movie. I suspect, at this point, nobody really cares.... but a lie is still a lie.
Thanks for the lowdown, Cth. |

Thanks dude. I'm not reading this because I'm picking up the book tomorrow.
Remember, just like I realized with SM3, even if it's in the book- the scene may have been cut from the film. That antartica (?) scene I believe is cut due to a earlier AICN review, unless they put it back in- which is okay since story wise nothing is missing really, the explanation still there with the E-Bay scenes and Sam's class presentation. It would be AWESOME if they have that scene in the film, because of the visualization of it- but, if it's not in the final product I don't think it will hurt the story really since it's "extra" information. And yes, a book is not able to translate script to page that well with voice overs (as noted in the SM3 novelization). Prime does have a voice over, like you stated, in the leaked script. And it is very possible that during that voice over we see Cybertron. For example, the SM3 book described in details what happened in the film prior to the play, but left out Peter's opening voice over. So, if Cybertron is at least mentioned- we will see that VISUALLY. Or at least that's how I've seen voice overs translated to book page. Last edited by Tempest19; 05-28-2007 at 09:27 PM. |

Just radio according to the script. But, it's not just songs- it's EVERYTHING on the radio from sound effects, to sports announcers, to old recordings and songs. So it's actually a wide selection. Kind of like that one character in 'Small Soldiers' who used the radio to talk alot of the time. More along those lines, god I need to see that film again.

New news has stated that there are rumors that the ending allows for Megs to come back- anyone have a link to the source that stated that though?
I know this isn't answered off the book- but, the script and news around the net. |

Thanks! Though I have one question: What is the feeling with Starscream and Megatron? G1ish or is it the simple one quote that was said in the leaked script?

Wow, guys do you think that pic of Sam laying on the car with Mikela is this:
![]() To me it sounds like it. I personally like that alot more than the ending between them in the leaked script. It has them WITH the Transformers. Very cool, indeed. Just wondering, what your thoughts about the new ending? Like this or liked actually Optimus on the mountain better? Last edited by Tempest19; 05-28-2007 at 10:16 PM. |

Yeah, and keep in mind, Peter David is writing for his target audience.. comic fans tossing in fan references that didn't make it into the film, and his trademark jokes
![]() I can see this fitting into 2 hours though. It seems like Spielberg had some hand in guiding it, since it could have been all set up the first hour, but we get some great balances of both storylines/types. If anything the ending seems frantic and rushed, which is probably what war actually feels like ![]() The scene where Megatron and SS meet has likely been changed as well to build up the rivalry as indicated. Still, I believe this shows there's still going to be some surprises in store for fans when the film hits. Even SM3's ending was reworked for the film. |

WOW!!!!!!! Peter David? AWESOME!!!! Dude, is one of my favorite writers... those words just hyped me up to the EXTREME for this book. I love everything he has written for these films so far!
And yeah, I hope the ending is altered a little bit... BEST Sam and Mikela ending, but I really want to see Optimus Prime during the final shot and not the truck. By the way, does one of the autobots become the soldier's (forgot his name) car still? I thought that was really cool as well. |

He informs Megatron of things being under control and how they're on the edge of victory. How they'll transform the primitive machine life on Earth into the next stage and move forth throughout the galaxy. Megatron : "The insects must be cleared." Starscream: "Once we have transformed Earth's machines, the purificatino should take less than a day." I didn't bother posting it cause this is one section that's definitely changed. I can see Megatron landing and SS trying to claim he made rescue possible and Megatron responding "You've failed me once again Starscream." |

And besides, unless they show him chopped up, I'm going with the comic book "if there's no body" rule. The fact that they dump the bodies in the water reminds me of the underwater Decepticon base. So, the fan in me, hopes they'll end up setting up an underground base. Who's to say Optimus' signal doesn't bring Decepticons (although if the rumors are true, maybe it's Unicron.) Or that Starscream didn't land with the Nemesis and hid underwater having a support crew left behind (Soundwave?) Quote:

I don't know why I don't like it. It's a cool premise and all... sorta Maximum Overdrive Meets Aliens... but it's just not "Transformers." Seems to miss the whole point in my book.

I knew it was a different writer for the SM3 novel- didn't like that writer that much. Peter David would have done a much better job at writing it, I'm pretty sure he writes the books for most of these page to screen type adaptations. He's brilliant at it.

And can you by any chance give an idea of how many electronic equipment go all Transformer on us? Is it most electronics?
I'd love to see a cell phone transformer- like the toy... that would be cool. (If there is a cell phone Transformer, I can post that pic if you guys want to see it- it's part of a branch of toy lines for the film) |

Megatron wants to take over the galaxy. He's determined that machine life is superior to all other forms and they must be eliminated. To further that goal, they must move across the galaxy, consuming and establishing bases in their wake. So, it feels like something Megatron would do. Especially since that's why he was going after energon cubes in the first place ![]() Nope, Peter David wrote the Spidey 3 novel. |

It was mentioned in passing. Just a quick scene to hint at the danger. And for the paranoid, for Hasbro to market more toys
