Default The De2cent

Descent Sequel Split in "2"
Source: Ryan Rotten, 'Jack'July 24, 2007

The inevitable sequel to Neil Marshall's 2006 unrelenting underground creature feature The Descent is being smacked with a gimmicky title in the great tradition of Se7en and Thi13en Ghosts: The De2cent.

We'll see if that holds.

A recently updated tentative listing for the film first appeared at exclusive industry pay site IMDB Pro. It cites Christian Colson is returning to produce for Celador Films. Project is in the "scripting" stages.

the good thing about the first movie was that you couldnt said that the creatures were 100% real. it was a good story. with the sequel they will destroy everything IMO.

Oh the creatures were definately real, at least in the UK version.

But, if Neil Marshall isnt doing this, i'm not interested.

This is more of a stand alone film to me. I think what made the first so good is that it was about the charecters first...what happened to them is what made it disturbing. Hollywood always has to cash in on their films with a sequel...why cant people just make a good film for the hell of it?

Oh and the title sucks, the only movie that title worked for is se7en.

EXEC 1: Hey, any great ideas on how to reverse the trends for dropping box office revenue?

EXEC 2: We could make better movies.....

EXEC 1: ...............

EXEC 2: We could put the number of the movie in the name, like 'Se7en'. That works well for sequels.

EXEC 1: All we are making is sequels.

EXEC 3: What's the opposite of a sequel?

EXEC 1: I don't know.

Thye Desent was one of the best horrors i've seen in a while, they're gonna **** it up with a sequel.

Speaking of sequels, what's up with Dog Soldiers 2..?

Comic-Con '07: EXCL - Marshall Talks De2cent
Source: Ryan RottenJuly 28, 2007

Over breakfast talking about his upcoming Road Warrior-esque thriller Doomsday, director Neil Marshall and ShockTillYouDrop.com touched on The De2cent, the upcoming sequel from Celador Films and producer Christian Colson that recently grabbed web headlines over its title.

Turns out, the moniker is correct and Marshall is overseeing the follow-up's progress in some capacity - call it quality control. He will not write or direct, but he does have an open line of communication with the producers. "I've got a few story ideas, they've got a few story ideas and we're just throwing them into the mix," he tells us.

One possible direction being mulled over is to pick up with Shauna Macdonald's "Sarah," that is, if she didn't croak at the end of the first film. "Shauna just had a baby so she's not gonna be ready to film for a bit," Marshall adds, then, "['De2cent'] is a ways off." But there is palpable interest coming from his former leading lady. "She wants to continue the journey a bit more. As far as I'm concerned, there's only one way to take her character, she has to die. If we didn't kill her at the end of the first film, we have to kill her at the end of the second one," Marshall laughs. "So, I don't know - I don't know where we stand yet."

Neil Marshall talks DESCENT 2

Director Neil Marshall (pictured) took to the stage of Britain’s Film 4 FrightFest the other day after showing the newly recut trailer for his latest film DOOMSDAY (coming next year from Rogue Pictures) for a short Q&A session. It was not the promo shown at the San Diego Comic-Con, as it contained more gore and beheadings within the MAD MAX-style mayhem; Marshall wanted to give a better indication of what lies in store in his apocalyptic action-thriller about the deadly Reaper virus (see last item here). During the talk, it emerged that a sequel to his hugely successful THE DESCENT is definite. “I will not be directing THE DESCENT 2,” he revealed. “But I will be overseeing every aspect of the production. There's nothing to oversee yet, though, as the script is currently being written. My DESCENT editor Jon Harris will make his feature directing debut with the sequel, and I can’t think of a better man for the job.”

Harris also edited SNATCH, LAYER CAKE and this summer’s STARDUST, and is working on the currently shooting horror-thriller EDEN LAKE, produced by DESCENT makers Celador Films. Written and directed by MY LITTLE EYE co-scripter James Watkins, that film is about a group of feral children terrorizing a vacationing couple. —Alan Jones

Get rid of the two in the middle of the title.... heck get rid of the two entirely.

Get a subtitle in there. Hopefully it will deal with a different group of people so that it won't cheapen the first one at all.

I'd hate to see the good ole plotline of suddenly they are all running from the crawlers and then bam! A scare where they think the crawlers are now in front of them... but surprise it is actually Sarah and she leads them to safety. Now she has to somehow find enough of her human side to help this new group out of the cave that she has been trapped in for such and such years.

That would be a crappy Descent 2.

The Unrated version, has a better ending. In the version i have (unrated) , Sarah doesn't escape the cave, but we don't see her die either.

See, when I saw the film in theaters, all my friends and I pretty much figured she didn't get out of the cave, so I'd like to think other people were smart enough to come to that conclusion even without the benefit of the unrated original version.

Where exactly does it end in the theatrical version? After she drives off?

It ends as her eyes pop open right after she sees Juno's ghost.

Actually the UK version implies more heavily that they weren't real than the US version does.

Ultimately it can be taken either way.

As for the ridiculously stupid title, I doubt it'll stick anyway. Scream 3 was titles "Scr3am" for a while, but it didn't last. It's just a working title.

Alot of British television shows, and she was in Moulin Rouge.

She's also got a great voice and does alot of stage work. She was in a rock band with her sister before her sister got stabbed and couldn't continue.

Juno looks just like Tina from Mtv's The Real World.

Anyhow, i just watched it again today and just caught the part where 'Sarah' is told that Juno was sleeping with her husband. Must have missed that part the first time i saw it. I thought she sticks the pick in her leg because Juno accidently stabbed the other chick and left her to die, but really it was because of the affair.
