The Ultimates just contemporized the original stuff. It also has a cenimatic real world quality to it that lends itself well to the big screen. I think things work best when they are a mixture of the two.

You can contemporarize it while still essentially adapting the classic story like Iron Man did. Which was much closer to the original comics than Ultimate Iron Man where Tony's origin is like something out of THE FLY.

Some stuff in the original source material would not lend itself well to the big screen while some stuff in the ultimate stoylines would not lend themselves either. It's character specific in my opinion.

As for the avengers film, is anyone with me in thinking that Baron Zemo partnered with H.Y.D.R.A. would be kick ass?

the avengers movie will be them forming to take down the Hulk. Thats all you need, what is the need for a super team to take on hydra or the masters of evil when they were formed to take on the avengers?

Hulk is the best why to get the most bang for your buck. He is more then a match for Thor's godhood, Iron Mans armor, Giant-Man's size, and the others on the team.

I think Ultron can also sub for Hulk as far as why the team needs to be formed. Either would be cool. But at least with Ultron theres a fresh element.

There's gotta be more to it than that, though. Hulk could be a minor threat who then joins the team, but i'd hate the entire Avengers film to just be about them fighting the Hulk. I want a real villain.

I think a REAL villain, Loki or the Mandarin...maybe even The Space Phantom, might manipulate the team into fighting the Hulk...

Let me put it like this: I've heard some people say for the Thor movie, they'd like to see Ultimate Thor b/c the idea of 616 Thor being a God wouldn't translate well with the general public.

I say: WTF. How would people not understand that, there's nothing complicated about it.

So Ultimate Thor isn't a God?

Besides that those people have probably ignored the reports on what would happen with the Thor movie.

Ultimate Thor is a God. I don't read a lot of Ultimates Issues, but I remember seeing Asgardian warriors come to the Ultimates help.

The villains are going to be HYDRA when all is said and done... what their plan and motivation will be is the only thing in question IMO. No doubt we'll get Zemo or Von Strucker... you can't use Ultron unless you give Ant-Man a movie exploring the robot army origin, and Marvel won't do that considering Ant-Man hasn't been made official and not many people would see that movie anyway. And Hulk absolutely can not be the main villain throughout. He wasn't the main villain through the entire volume 1 of the Ultimates and if he is a villain (which he should be) it will only be for about half the film.

I think it'd be cool if they based Thor a little on the Ultimate version and make everyone question whether he's a god or not. And then near the end, we get full blown magic, an army of monsters and gods fighting each other. And everyone's doubt is blown away.

That entire ending was just weird. Action packed and incredibly awesome but weird.

I think Hydra and the cosmic cube would make for a great threat. It's a good way for them to manipulate Hulk among other things.

Well that's not gonna happen when Thor's entire movie is taking place in Asgard. In fact we the audience would probably be looking at all the heroes like "WTF is wrong with you people? You all in denial?"

so...does thor being a god and all the other asgardian gods being "real" in the marvel-verse mean that they are the ONLY gods? do the other religions just stop existing becuase the norse gods are real?

The Thor Movie WILL explain to the general public why he's here. The 616 Thor does translate very well to the screen. I just hope they stay away from the others doubting Thor's a god.

But realistically, if someone comes along saying he's a god, people would raise an eyebrow.

I've never read 616 Thor's first appearance. But was every other hero ok with it when he introduced himself as Thor, the "God" of Thunder?

People tend to believe when a guy can control the weather, fly and cross dimensions with a hammer. Hell, Storm is thought of as a god by her people. Being able to punch the Hulk several stories high helps too.

Seeing is believing and all that. Don't just say it. Prove it.

Yeah, but that'd be cool if if we knew he was a god but Tony, Steve, and the rest of the Avengers were all " Suuuuuure you come from Asgard". It'd be so sweet to see all their faces when he unloads the magic at the end

I think most people the the Marvel movie-verse would be VEEEERY doubtful when it comes to magic. It's the not like the comic-universes where nothing surprises anybody anymore.
