Yeah, I think you can make a bet that the Howard Saint character is officially done with. As for the Russian? Well... He belongs in the dark/comedic Marvel Knights version of the Punisher, which is what the 1st film tried (but ultimately fell short) to copy. It seems that with the title change it'll be kind of old school Punisher crossed over with the Max version most likely. So hopefully they'll leave big dumb thugs without any weaponry out of it.

Yes, Barracuda has been confirmed and The Russian will also be returning.

Rumor has it, the Russian will have his large breasts from the comics in this film.

No they simply said they wouldn't deny elements of the previous films but they basically weren't going out of their way to acknowledge them either.

Oh well there we go. That's the smart thing to do. As long as the origin isn't retooled like it's apparantly going to be in The Incredible Hulk then I guess it's not a do-over.

I've been re-reading over these articles, and stuff and despite what everyone says I still don't think we are a 100% safe.

I mean they may work in new flash backs of Punisher's family's death, since Lionsgate doesn't seem to have their mind made up like the film makers do.

I imagine this will be almost the exact same scenario as Hulk when all is said and done, based on conflicting information from sources in the film who are interviewed and the studio's reflections on the project so far.

The only thing that is certain is its not a full blown origin story, much like the new Hulk.

Even if they don't show an origin flashback it's still a re-do though. For all intents and purposes, the story isn't going to take place after the events of the Thomas Jane movie.

Yeah, that was a stupid idea in the first place to start off with an origin film. Ennis writes the character leaving big area of mystery while slowly filling in new bits and pieces of what/who he is, what his connections are, past, ect.
