Predators Among Us

I was very recently notified by the local police (via flyer) that a man who had been convicted of sexual assault against a minor was recently released and had moved into my neighborhood. He lives less 2 minutes away from my home. Other than that particular crime, he had also been arrested for forgery, car theft and robbery. I work with children and this 'news' has been disturbing me greatly. However, I think it's better that the community knows about this man so we can take extra precaution to safeguard our children.

Anyway, my question is... does anyone else here live within close proximity of a such 'predator' and how do you feel about it and what do you do about it (especially if you're a parent)?

A childhood acquaintance of mine is a registered sex offender. I'm not worried about him though.

What level? This guy is a level 3. He raped a 12 yo. If he's your friend, I am sure there is some level of trust on your part and therefore you are not worried.

Well, it's pretty much a proven fact whole Megan's Law thing has done absolutely nothing to quill sexual crimes, so, it probably really doesn't matter.

But then, perception is just as important as reality, so if you feel safer with it, you're safer with it.

well like I said, I'm not sure it was sex, but yes he was about 15 at the time.
