It's a shame. Raimi is a huge fan and you can see the influence in a good number of his films, I think he would have done it justice. I liked a lot of the Farrely Brothers earlier films but they have lost their steam and the route they're taking this film I cannot and will not agree with. Doing it this way is a true slap in the face to the original three.

Indeed. I definitely would be on board with this 100% if Raimi was involved.

I'm a huge Stooges fan and just don't want this to be ****ed up. And it could easily be.

Massive thread bump because of possible casting news:

Last month, the feature film version of The Three Stooges moved from the struggling MGM to 20th Century Fox, along with writer/directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly. Once attached stars Jim Carrey, Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro were long gone but with the change of studio, the movie once again had a pulse. That pulse is now quickening according to The Wrap who reports that “advances have been made, representatives have been approached and discussions have taken place” for Johnny Knoxville, Andy Samberg and Australian comedian Shane Jacobson to play Moe, Larry and Curly. The Wrap quotes an agency insider about the possible casting of the blockbuster comedy, which would ideally start production in March.

With Jackass and Saturday Night Live respectively, Knoxville and Samberg each have plenty of experience in both the physical and comedy realms that would be necessary to play a good Stooge. Knoxville even dressed up as Moe for a recent Vanity Fair photo shoot (see above) and worked with the Farrelly’s in The Ringer. Jacobson, on the other hand, is an unknown here in the States. He currently hosts Top Gear Australia and won a Best Actor award in Australia for his work in the 2006 film Kenny.

Casting any combination of these actors seems well in line with the following Peter Farrelly quote:

The script is ready to go, and we are opening up these roles to the world right now. We’ll make it with the best possible people. Our feeling is that no star is too big to audition and no matter who it is, we’re going to have to see him in the role. This is not The Flinstones. You’ve got to be Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard, and that could be a major movie star or an unknown.

The only other thing we know about the film is that it will be broken into three, 27 minute segments.

I could see Knoxville as Moe. Though he stars in some stinkers, I do like Knoxville as an actor.

They're de-aging them for this one it seems like. Though Knoxville is about the same age they were at the start of their shorts.

i like Knoxville, but it really can't see him as any of the Stooges. the original line up they had of Sean Penn, Jim Carrey, and Benicio Del Toro was way better.

What the **** happened to Penn and Del Toro? They were actual interesting casting choices that I was looking forward to.

Knoxville and Samberg? Samberg is not like Larry at all. He's too young. Larry is the underlying humor of the trio. He appears and says things that are surprisingly hilarious from time to time and he takes you by surprise.

Knoxville is too crazy for Moe. He better tone down his **** because I don't want to see Jackass Knoxville.

Call me disapointed right now. I was afraid this would happen.

But hey, if they saw something we don't who knows? But that doesn't mean I don't like this decision.

This movie has been talked about for years now. It was a stupid idea then, its a stupid idea now. If anybody is gonna do it, Im glad its actors I dont particularly like.

I think under the right director and vision, it is possible for a good film. And Raimi would have been ideal. But I don't think this is going to be anything special.

But there's alot of problems. Like imitating the original actors or to do their own thing but stay true. But where is the line drawn to the point where they become unrecognizeable?

I don't want to see any modern raunchy comedy ********.

The synopsis sounds awful . I did like the original cast but I don't think it can work anymore.

Well there's new details on it. They said they "shot down" the casting rumors so hopefully these new ones aren't true.

I like the structure, but I don't know about the orphanage thing.

They said they want to keep it at a PG rating with the "violence" cartoony. Good.

I did laugh at the whole assault and battery thing with Moe. Those shorts always poked fun at the era they were in, this would just be doing the same thing with the current politically correct nature of today.

A biopic wouldn't be as "fun." If they go the route of having the three grown actors portray themselves as kids while in the orphanage, I may forgive them.
