Default The Music of "Wolverine"

So, as X-Men Origins: Wolverine nears production, who do you think shall be hired as composer? Director Gavin Hood usually works with composers Paul Hepker and Mark Kilian (whom have composed the music for both of Hood's movies, Tsotsi and Rendition) so it's plausible to presume that they would probably be brought onboard under Hood's blessing, but what is everyone else's suggestions?

Should John Powell, composer of X-Men: The Last Stand, be brought onboard? After listening to Brian Reitzell's score for 30 Days of Night it got me thinking how he could create an ambient, yet pulsating and original score for Wolverine, which I would think would necessitate a darker, edgier, less "epic" score. I know Powell could do that, given his work on the Bourne trilogy, but who else?

Well, given my shock and dissapointment that Ramin Djawadi is scoring iron man that im expecting a small composer for this too. But i'd love to hear a score from Dario Marianelli, Tyler Bates, or Ennio Moricone (Alright now i'm dreaming with that last guy)

Dario Marianelli would be good. His V for Vendetta score was pretty inspired.

And i wanna say Graeme revell but hes done daredevil i guess. I just love how much honest emotion he can pack into his score.

Revell would be good. Not the best of choices, but he would be serviceable.

Harry Gregson-Williams Scoring Wolverine
Source: The Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency
October 29, 2007

The Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency has revealed that Harry Gregson-Williams is set to compose the score for 20th Century Fox's X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

The composer has worked on a great amount of projects (see full list here), but some of his more recent scores are Gone Baby Gone and Shrek the Third.

He also is doing The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, as well as Jerry Bruckheimer's G-Force, which is currently scheduled to hit theaters the same date as "Wolverine" - May 1, 2009.

Ironically enough, Gregson-Williams has worked with X-Men: The Last Stand composer John Powell in the past on several scores, including Shrek. Both have sprung from Media Ventures and are protégées of composer Hans Zimmer. While I am familiar with Gregson-Williams's work, I think Powell is more talented and would liked to have seen him return to the X-Men world. However, Gregson-Williams is a good compromise.

Harry Gregson-Williams is actually one of my favorite scorers. as you can tell by my avatar, i'm a big Metal Gear fan and his work on there is AWESOME! it really gives Metal Gear a cinematic and epic feel. this is VERY good news for Wolverine.

looks like they're doing a bang up job getting good people for this film so far...

I guess I have to be the Party Pooper. This is TERRIBLE NEWS these MV/RC guys are taking over. I wish they could get someone who's not MV/RC for once. Someone like Marco Beltrami, Michael Giachinno, Edward Shearmur, Don Davis, Dario Marianelli, Patrick Doyle,or David Arnold. These MV/RC guys are not only doing the BIG Comic Book movies but they are also doing the big Hollywood Blockbuster Movies as well. Movie scores are going to HELL in a handbasket. REAL soon every Blockbuster Event Movie or any MOVIE for that matter is gonna sound the same,if it hasn't already, because everywhere I look an MV/RC composer is writing music for a movie I think deserves better. Makes me wonder how good the movie is gonna be.All these scores are going to sound like The Rock, POTC, BB, Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, Narnia, etc. They all have the same sound. This almost makes me want to give up on film music. Probably when Williams is gone(which I hope is a NEVER) I should start worrying. Well I have to see what HULK 2 will have in store for us probably Klaus Badelt, John Murphy,Steve Jablonsky,Trevor Rabin, etc.

SWEET!

I've loved his work on the Metal Gear series. This is a very, very, very awesome choice.

You can hear some of his work here
VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

I especially love the stripped down version of the MGS theme that plays tarting at 5:10 on that video. Like I said before... HGW is awesome.

I would have loved if they just used the sound track from the X Men movies, but I do realize that Wolverine needs his own score. Hanz Zimmer gets my vote.

It's a shame that they kept switching composers for the x-men movies. We never really got a classic X-men movie theme (like the Batman, Superman and Spider-Man movies have) because of that.

First Michael Kamen RIP, then John Ottman, then John Powell and now Harry Gregson-Williams. And if the Magneto gets off the ground David Goyer he will probably hire a new person for that movie as well.
