Cool Peter David to write Iron Man novelization!

http://www.superheroflix.com/news/36/24036.php

Quote:
Peter David, known to comic book readers for his lengthy runs on The Incredible Hulk and Supergirl announced on his website, PeterDavid.net, that he has been tasked with writing the novelization of Iron Man.

The major project at the moment is one that I've not announced before this: I'm writing the novelization for the upcoming Iron Man movie which will be hitting theater in May of 2008. The novelization will be published by Del Rey. The deadline on the book is tight, but I should have no trouble hitting it. Rock solid script (although naturally I can't go into any details.)

David has previously written the novelizations of several other superhero films, including The Rocketeer, Batman Forever, Fantastic Four, Hulk and all three Spider-Man films.

Sounds great. I really enjoyed the Novelisation of Spider-Man 3 (some elements of it were better than the film), so i have no doubts that the Iron Man one will be amazing.

I love Peter David's novelizations. He's done all the Spider-Man films and then the Hulk and now Iron Man.

I love it.

This is good. His Hulk novelization was better than the actual film. Of course PAD can turn just about anything Hulk into gold.

So these things aren't exactly like the movies.
Seems to be a waste anyways.

I understand reading novels that were turned into books, simply for the fact that they are always richer then anything that can be translated onto screen, and that they were penned by a writer that was good enough to entice big hollywood money...

But to read a novel adapted from a script... As far as literary stimulation that might be two steps ahead of reading a Goosebump book.

Sure, on the "Cool Scale", movie novelizations are just below those Star Wars or Star Trek or Halo-Universe paperbacks, but I love them. Usually they are based on earlier script drafts and include scenes we don't normally get to see until the DVD release. Plus characters are given a little more depth.

I usually read the novel right after viewing the movie for the first time so as to not ruin the ending. Although if the novel is released too early, I will start reading it and force myself to stop before I get too far into it. I've gotten all the Marvel novelizations so far (including Howard the Duck) so now it's a full blown hobby for me.

Of course this is the only place I talk about it. It's kinda my bastard-child of a hobby.

Thought, opinions anyone?

Not sure if I want to read this before the movie. Last novelization I bought and read was for X-2. While I still enjoyed the movie a lot the book had some great cameo scenes that I was pissed didn't make it in the film.

I might go buy me a copy later, but same with Iron might spoil myself to much reading it, doubt it though.
