I could see Michael Bay's direction for Superman. I like the why he shoots his films, the cinematography is kool, it's like you are looking through a child's eye and you are looking upward, that could translate really well on a Superman film

I was actually not that adamant against Bay, but after TF2....I just can't stand by him in any form. It's clear he doesn't care about the script that much, and it's obvious with a big budget he gets very excessive.

Too bad we couldn't have two directors. Bay to shoot the action sequences, and Jackson to do the drama. ( although Jacksons not bad at the action scenes himself)

Bay has no interest in Superman. He's been offered the job before and has passed on it. Not to mention he's already attached to another franchise. He's not an option.

We need some new blood to resurrect this franchise. Someone akin to a Favreau or a Nolan but with the sensibilities that's right for Superman. He's out there, somewhere...

true. he has no interest. you know there is a reason why Bay is doing transformers. Bay wants in hes movie car scenes. with superman or spiderman you can nto have in the middle of the movie a car chase scene or caar action scenes. so TF was for him the perfect franchise . its about robots that transform to cars. its perfect for him and he knows this. he can play with hes cars.

you think Bay's superman movie would be like singers with more action? Singer is like Bay but the other way around. he doesnt care about action scenes. IMO he is more forced to have some action in hes movies. he wants to make those movies because of the characters and then he throws some action inside. very little. i am talking about superman. if he could do it he would only have superman talking with lois and have slow flying scenes and night. not 100% like that i am a little joking.

Nahhh, not even Spielberg could constrain him. In the Bayverse, Supeman's heat vision would produce 50+ simultaneous explosions on screen.

And you KNOW there has to be a scene where a helicopter flies against the sunset. Then Superman flies along. In slow motion, with Hans Zimmer's / Steve Jablonsky's militaristic-heroic music in the background...

EDIT: To his defence, Bay's movies have some of the BEST uses of CGI. Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, The Island still hold up today, while other, more recent movies look outdated *coughWolverinecough*

I wouldn't oppose his heat vision being made into something larger than life and dramatic. Singer grounded the effects in reality too much imo.

After Transformers 2, I'm more anti-Bay than ever(and I liked Transformers 1 a lot). I would much rather have Singer come back than to have Bay on board.

I just came back from TF 2. I can't believe that this thing was written by the same guys who wrote Star Trek. And Bay needs someone to hold him, well, at bay. My brain still hurts. Still, I would like to keep some of his trademark elements, although limited: I like the over-saturation in his films, the way he directs CGI and sets them in scene (but not the dizzy camerwork).

Funny, I was watching some scenes of "X-Men 2" before going to the theatre. Man, I forgot how good this movie was. Singer directed this??? The same one who directed "Superman Returns"? I mean, I got misty-eyed watching the White House attack and Magneto's escape from his prison. Even Wolverine's Weapon-X flashbacks were great.

Lighthouse, I don't know if you wrote that before, but who do you think it would be the ideal director for a new Superman movie, if not Singer?

I am fine with Bay or J.J. Abrams on the condition that they ONLY direct a good script. I would love to see Peter Jackson get his hands on it. Zack Snyder...and maybe even someone "out of the box", like Marvel does with Kenneth Brannagh and "Thor"

He he lol. You know as much as we all dislike (certain) decisions Bay has made , we can't deny that he has a visual style that really can't be matched.
Personally i'd love to see a shot of superman flying against the sunset with possible heattrails coming from his hands.


Imagine the skorponok scene in the first Transformers movie where the jets are coming to help Epps and co.
Remove those jets and insert a digital superman man in that scene.


btw here's hoping that the guys at ILM and WETA can nail the photorealism of the aliens in JAmes Camerons Avatar. Hopefully this time WB will pick them for the CG work in the next superman movie.

These are good choices. I want to see a Fortress of Solitude scene by Cauaron.
Verbinski is versatile, while Zwick or Martin Cambell for example are more "safe" directors, in a sense that they direct by the book. Even Spielberg, as he is now, I think would play it by the book, you know, solid direction, good action, nothing more, nothing less.

Well, I watched Tarsem's The Fall recently, and as much as I loved his visual style, he is not someone for Superman. So, I will try to name a few directors who have not directed a superhero film so far. First, the more "out of the box" options, but still Hollywood-credible:

Joe Carnahan
Matthew Vaughn
Frank Darabont
Barry Sonnenfeld (maybe?)
Kathryn Bigelow (VERY interesting, IMO)

or if you want to put some MORE weight into action, then:

Tony or Ridley Scott
Len Wiseman (and we would get Kate Beckinsale as Lois Lane!)
Antoine Fuqua
Luc Besson
Roland Emmerich
