Default MacBook AIR

Specs

What do people think of this? Personally, I'm not feeling it. They took out everything just to make it thin. Laptops need some weight to them and it's not like I dread carrying around my current MacBook. The fact that there is no CD drive is really stupid to me, too. The solution is using another computer! That's crazy! This price is also insane.

That is a ridiculous price that I hope many people will be hesitant to pay. Didn't they learn from overpricing the iPhone?

edit: No user replaceable battery? Oh HELL no!

Yeah. It's like an iPod. Nothing can be accessed by the "average user".

I'll stick to a real laptop. I have zero need for an overpriced and oversized iTouch.

And $1800 and $3100 are ridiculous prices to pay for this thing. The multi touch function on the touchpad is nice and everything...but nowhere near worth paying that much for. And hmm, let me access this dvd from...a separate compyuter! Genius!

Great idea Jobs. You've got a winner in a pretty box right here.

Though Dell and HP have given me grief here and there, I'm just not impressed enough with Macs to convert. They're too expensive, and frankly, I just don't see what all the fuss is about.

It's for people who have wireless networks in their home or office.

I can see it being useful for the corporate world, for people who need to take presentations to multiple clients, or who do a lot of work on planes and so on. But for the average user... not so much.

or they get the add-on CD player made especially for the MacBook Air however why have such a light notebook if you can't easily carry around the CD drive?

It's pretty much a portable PowerPoint presenter. It's pretty obvious it's not meant for anything else. It's got a tiny hard disk that's solid state, and it has three ports - an audio out, a monitor out and a USB port. It's designed for businessmen who need to carry presentations around.

Another use I could see is for university students who want to take notes in lectures and don't like carrying a bulky computer around.

It's clearly not meant to be a main PC, but something to be used on the road to take or present information.

Whether there's a market for that... remains to be seen.

I wonder if Palm decided not to release the Folio based on rumblings of this computer... Either way, they probably should have.

I would destroy that in no time at all. But it really is pretty.
I guess I'll stick with my Powerbook a little longer, not really feeling any of the MacBooks.

There is totally a market for that, but not at a starting price of $1800.
