DTL Season 5-Week 9 (Set 2)

The rules:
This is one of four threads containing matches.
Due to the holiday, these threads will be in use for 9 days. Days 1-4 (Jan 16 - Jan 19) are strictly setup time for owners to plead their cases, tell us their team’s strategies, breakdown the match ups, and do whatever else they can/want to do to try and convince you that their team would pull out a victory. Please, let the owners do this on their own with no help.

On Day 5 (Jan 20) I will post and tell everyone that voting may begin. Any votes cast before I open voting will not count. Look over the matchups and read the strategies, and take into consideration how in-character each character is. Afterwards, use your best judgment to decide who you think has the best chance to win the match. (Note: The length of a writeup the discretion of the owner. Do not punish owners just for having a shorter writeup.)

To vote, post the team names you think will prevail in each match. Remember to vote for all matches or your vote will not count! The teams with the highest vote total at the end of the 9th day (Jan 24) will get a W while the other will get an L. (Equal votes will result in a tie.)

DTL, WEEK 9: TEAM ALPHA WOLF SQUADRON VS. MISTRESS GLUON

PREPARATION/BATTLE TIME:
I’m not interested in writing a prolonged battle, so I see it going down like this:
- Quasar engages the Surfer, and should be able to hold his own long enough for…
- Fernus to mentally rip apart Hyperion. This shouldn’t take long.
- Fernus and Quasar double team on Surfer, Quasar keeping him busy physically while Fernus attacks his mind. The Surfer can’t take an assault on two fronts, even with this incarnation’s ruthless demeanour. Quasar falls in the battle though.
- Aquaman takes on Warbird. She has the edge of being able to fly, but otherwise, Aquaman should be able to take everything she can throw at him. Fortunately, Aquaman has his telepathy, giving him the edge in the end. Warbird falls from the air, defeated.
- Mr. Terrific takes on Bullseye and is able to defeat him without too much trouble. Let’s face it, Bullseye’s good, but Mr. T’s a lot better. Physically, Mr. T is in Daredevil’s ballpark, and his tech essentially mimics and are surpasses Daredevil’s senses. We’ve even seen second-string American Eagle hand Bullseye his ass when he got the chance. With his T-spheres supplying holographic projections to misdirect Bullseye, Mr. T gets that chance and owns Bullseye.
- Black Panther and Deathstroke are essentially two sides of the same coin. Where Deathstroke will probably expect a Batman-type, he’ll be surprised by the Panther’s own ruthlessness. It’ll be a hard fought battle, but it ends in Deathstroke’s defeat.

Both teams are pretty organized (Fernus will fall in line for the team), but TAWS has a distinct tactical edge.

As much as I like the ladies, without a write up I see no way how X's team would be defeated by the like of deadpool's harem. Thordis is considerably weaker then normal thor (class 75 vs Class 100), and this is a suped up version. PLus Huber could match Stellaris.

Ok,so nobody knows anything about anybody except Stellaris knowing about Thor, Byakko may recognise the name of Batman.

My team controls who attacks who because of Byakko who can ghost everybody and hide them in the ground. Huber may use telepathy to detect them but my team will have to take the initiative of the attack.

Stellaris would fight Thor because out of the whole bunch he is the only one she knows. Now again this is a case of her having to hang on before her teammates show up to help her.

Thordis would fight Joseph Huber. As powerful as he is there is not a mutant on the face of the Earth more powerful than Thor and implicitly, more powerful than Thordis (except maybe for Pheonix but that's another story). Illusions? She's got that covered. Energy attacks? She's got that covered. She can always swing her Mace and gerenate some anti matter particles, I fail to see what Huber can call up against that... except maybe teleportation but she can follow him.

Coronary against Dead Girl is a no-brainer. He can cause muscle spams, she has no living tissue. They can both phase which is tricky, but she can resurrect dead people, and given what just happened with Bludhaven, THAT's A LOT of dead people. Even if she couldn't command them, it would still be a neat distraction, if she waits for the right moment.

Jaine Cutter and Byakko vs Batman 1 mil and Super Skrull
With Byakko's help Jaine Cutter could get through Superskrul's force fields, should he choose to erect them and neither his fire, or his strength or his elasticity would help him because they can't hurt her and she can cut through anything. Batman's demise is a simple question of ghosting him into the ground and leaving him there.

When everyone is free they can go help Stellaris, and Byakko can ghost Thor's Power Gem and Mjolnir, rendering him powerless. That or he dies of cancer cause of all the radiation.

I was about to vote for X. I couldn't see how LV's team would stack well against his. But I liked her explanation of how she controlled who fought who using Byakko. And her explanation of why Thordis could take down Huber.

You're going to have to ask a Thor specialist about that one. I just know he supposedly went crazy at some point and got a power gem along with the craziness. I don't even see why he's allowed if Thanos is the uber limit and I read somewhere that Thor w/ Power Gem beat Thanos.

Actually Thor lost that fight to Thanos. He had looked basically evenly matched with Thanos, until Thanos shot him with some kind of stasis gun that froze him in place. Normal Thor is a bit weaker than Thanos, so I guess the power gem is just enough of a boost to put them at even power, but Thor still loses against Thanos's tech.

That said, earlier in that story arc Thor did basically trounce the whole Infinity Watch, but I believe that was also the arc where they lost to a horde of Asgardian trolls (probably Adam Warlock's most embarassing loss ever -- he's beaten Mephisto in hell but he can't beat trolls? Of course the Soul Gem is probably especially dangerous to Mephisto because he derives his power from the dead souls in his realm, but still . . .)

As for Huber, he can use the power of any mutant. I believe he's even occasionally used a few mutant powers at the same time. But I think we've been implicitly assuming that he can't do something like stack a bunch of identical powers to get ludicrously amped up powers. E.g., if he wants superstrength he could copy, say, Colossus, but he couldn't copy every superstrong mutant simultaneously. Likewise, if he wants telepathy he could copy Xavier, but he couldn't get the combined telepathic might of every telepathic mutant on Earth.

He was allowed on the theory that no mutant really compares to the top-level ubers in this thing, so even being able to pick any mutant power he wants doesn't necessarily make him tuber. (I'm not sure I completely buy that, but that's the reasoning.) Keep in mind that copying Apocalypse's power wouldn't give him access to Apocalype's Celestial tech, and copying Phoenix's mutation wouldn't give him the power of the Phoenix cosmic entity.

I think you're probably right about that. At least with a mega-powerful brick like Doomsday there are certain ways you know he can be beaten (e.g., teleport him off the battlefield). With guys like Huber or Resurrection Man 1 Million, they potentially have an answer for everything. There's almost always going to be some power your team is vulnerable to, so you're stuck saying "Well, I hope he doesn't pick that power."

That's not to say it's impossible to beat them . . . but personally, I'd just as soon ban all the "pick whatever power you want" guys on the basis of being overly cheap.

my next real battle is week 12 - oa - HOTNA i'll be 4-5-2 after next week


IF i beat NW i'll be 7-5-2 in the end
