Default I Love You, Beth Cooper

For all you Panettiere lovers

Quote:
Hayden Panettiere waving more pom-poms in comedy

By Leslie Simmons and Borys Kit

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Hayden Panettiere may be wearing a new cheerleading uniform.
The "Heroes" actress is in negotiations with 20th Century Fox's genre label Fox Atomic to star in the teen coming-of-age movie "I Love You, Beth Cooper."
Chris Columbus is in talks to direct, and will also serve as a producer. The studio is aiming to start filming in the spring. "Beth Cooper" is based on the novel by Larry Doyle, a former writer for "The Simpsons" who now works for the New Yorker.
Panettiere would play Beth, the school's hottest cheerleader who shows nerdy valedictorian Denis Cooverman the best night of his life after he proclaims his love for her during his graduation speech.
Best known as cheerleader Claire Bennet on NBC's "Heroes," she recently wrapped filming "Fireflies in the Garden" for Senator International, which stars Julia Roberts, Ryan Reynolds and Willem Dafoe.
Columbus, who is gearing up to produce "Night at the Museum 2: Escape From the Smithsonian" for Fox, was most recently in the director's chair for 2005's "Rent."

I just finished reading this book and this movie has the potential to be absolutely HILARIOUS if it stays true to the book.

I'd liken it to Superbad. Soooo funny.

Hmm, if thats the case it could be okay...but a big part of Superbad was Cera, Hill, Roegen, and Mintz-Plasse. The cast and their chemistry, combined with their comedic talents and delivery is what made that movie truly great. I've never seen Pantierre in anything comedic, so I guess we'll find out soon if she has the talent for it.

that was the only part of superbad... i mean, other than the hilarious dialog and interactions between everyone, the movie was more or less completely generic.

and what is the fascination with hayden pantierre? she's really, really not that hot, nor is she that good of an actress... chalk it up to fanboyism, i guess.

It's such a "coming of age" teen book, and now hopefully, movie. While reading the book, I actually pictured Hayden as Beth and it was easy to see her pulling it off. Hopefully this movie isn't rated PG-13 because they would have to cut A LOT from it.

It could be right up there with some of the classic teen 80's movies like The Breakfast Club, Heathers, Ferris Buellers, Sixteen Candles. That's where Larry Doyle (the author the book who was always a writer for Daria, Beavis & Butthead, and The Simpsons) got the inspiration from.

Matt--I feel like you hit it spot on. I don't see Hayden pulling this movie off completely on her own. When I heard about this movie I immediately thought of "John Tucker Must Die" I don't know why. Hopefully the trailer is awesome when it comes out. I would think Hayden herself would have turned down another "cheerleader" role...hm..

Jesus, it's like Hollywood saw the Hype Relationship Thread and was like, let's make a live action version of that.

On the other hand, Hayden showcasing tits....bam. Though I'm sure she has a "no nudity clause."

Figures he would direct something like this after RENT . . . how ya gonna pay Chris Columbus? This is how.

I don't get it really, the premise seems rather ridiculous. And who is this military dude trying to beat him up supposed to be? Hayden's older brother?

I don't care for the perpetuation that all guys in the military are like these douchebag jocks from high school. I happen to have friends that were in the military that love all kinds of geeky stuff, sci-fi, comics, and video games. One of my firends I've been to Con with the last two years is a marine and he worships Dr. Who.

Hollywood Rule #64 - You can not be both a geek and physically superior, either one or the other. And if you are a geek in the military you have to work as an engineer or some ****, or just be the one lone guy that is averse to fighting, yet by some miracle manages to be competent.

No, the military guy is Beth's boyfriend. He's a really big douchebag in the book that just hangs around the high school long after he's graduated to hit on the younger chicks.

And I knew Chris Columbus was a bad choice to direct this. It shouldn't be PG-13 at all, it should've been a rated R movie.

I just watched the trailer and Meh. It seems like a mixture of a bunch of 80's teen films.
