I didn't see a thread about this.
http://www.marvel.com/news/comicstor..._Galaxy_Series I'm looking forward to this new series, as somebody who never followed the old concept and incarnations. I remember awhile back when legendary and iconic writer/artist extraordinaire, John Byrne (!!!), declared that if he returned to M***** (aka... Marvel), he'd be interested in doing a new Guardians series. I thought that would be a perfect fit for him, so part of me wishes that he was the guy, but the other part is perfectly happy about this, because Paul Pelletier is a great artist who needs to be given stability. The guy can draw 12 issues a month, yet Marvel just won't let him do that for whatever reason. Hopefully, this will be the place they allow him to make his mark. Was looking forward to a nice run by him on Nova's series, so hopefully, this doesn't end up as another case of Marvel not knowing what they are doing, with Pelletier launching the new series, and then moving on after 6 issues. I also hope Marvel doesn't do anything moronic like publishing more than 12 issues a year like they are doing with New Exiles, preventing their 12 issue a year artist from doing an uninterrupted that's run not hampered by fill-in art. STUPID! Anyway, I do have high hopes for this concept. I'm sure a few disgruntled fans of the old series still remain, but I wasn't one of them, so this is the first time I've been excited or interested in Guardians of the Galaxy. I didn't read any of the Annihilation stuff. |

Yes. I hope this means they'll be be keeping tabs on Earth, since many recent threats are closely associated with it.

Wait, so DnA and Pelletier are leaving Nova?

Well, the Byrne stuff is just silly. He has a bug big-time up his rear about Marvel. So I don't forsee him doing anything for them.
Guardians of the Galaxy? I don't know. I like the old (from the future) team. If this team lays the groundwork in some way for that team, I might be onboard. Depends on who's doing it I guess.

DnA and Pelletier are doing it.
I'm in for this. More cosmic = better.

It sounds cool, yeah, but I'd much rather Pelletier stick with Nova. Also, using the GoG name without having any Guardians in it is lame city.
I'm not a fan of Marvel's policy of recycling old names and using them to break in completely new properties. |

Eh, depends on who replaces Pelletier. I don't like the appropriation of the GoG name, either. But whatev, it's what Marvel does these days. I can get past it and look at it as a series unto itself. I'll probably call it the Guardians of Annihilation in my head.

I'll read the book, but I would much rather have prefered a Star-Lord book with Peter, Rocket, Mantis and Groot. |

Maybe the Guardians of the Galaxy will turn out to just be Star-Lord's crew with a new name.

I highly doubt that. Marvel is shoving Quasar down our throats too much for her to not be included in this, and I don't see DnA and Pelletier not using Nova.

So Star-Lord's crew with Nova and Quasar? I don't mind that, especially if Quasar doesn't have Moondragon to be gross with.

Quasar sucks, though. And Nova works best on his own.

Quasar's only sucked because she was mooning over Moondragon and her powers have been severely handicapped. Allow her to use the Quantum Bands as well as they could be used and ditch Moondragon, and I don't have a problem with her. There's nothing inherently wrong with Phyla-Vell.

Well, she's a pale imitation of Quasar, for one. She's also got the standard, self-confidence issues that got old a long time ago.

Her lack of self-confidence makes sense to me given that she's inheriting two major legacies. Granted, I'd prefer to have Wendell back and for Phyla to get her own schtick, but I try to make it a policy to be a little more open-minded about legacy heroes. The legacy concept is usually fun to me.

Comics are filled with clichés. Self-doubt is pretty much always going to be a major part of these characters, especially at Marvel, because it's a natural emotion in anyone who's faced with the kinds of pressures the heroes are. Granted, it could be and has been executed better than it's been done with Phyla.

I do like the banner-pic at the top. Very Reservoir Dogs. And the first time that Wraith hasn't looked completely emo-tastic.

Ew, that banner makes me worry that Adam Warlock may stick around for GoG.

He sucks. You want to talk about clichés? Adam's angsty guy who doesn't know his own power #512,342 now.
