There are slow parts, sure. But I would say keep with it. You have to look ta it the same way as many people look at Sandman: as a whole. It's one story, just told over 10 volumes. And the last scene is badass.

Yorick is one of my favorite characters ever.

I don't know if they are any good,
but I do know that the creator, James O'Barr, wrote this after a massive tragedy in his life (he talks about it in an interview on the Crow DVD) and it seems like he poured everything into the book.

Here's a quick question. Anyone know how many volumes the Buffy Omnibuses are going to go to? I have 1-5 and know that a 6th is on the way, anyone know how many more are to come in total?

Um....they'll probably keep going until the series is finished. I assume.

I figured that. I was hoping for an actual number though of volumes they'd go to though.

Well, from what I read on Wikipedia, each Omnibus contains about 10 issues and they're up to #20 of the original Buffy comic series as of Omnibus vol. 4. There are 63 issues in the original series and 18 (so far) in Buffy Season 8. Presuming they collect all of those, plus all the Tales of the Slayers/Vampires stories and all the other comic side stories there have been over the years, I'd say you've got at least 4 volumes to go.

Yeah, by the time you get all the trades and catch up with the current series, you'll end up having to wait a month or two before the next actual issue comes out.

But Kirkman is now Image Exclusive, and it's been showing really. The books have been coming out closer together as it seems, so who knows? By the time you get to the current issues, you might not have to wait the agonizing weeks and months that the rest of us had to....ya lucky ass johnny come lately.

I have a Sandman question.

Destruction gave up the responsibilities of his job as one of the Endless and went to great lengths to make Dream understand that the Endless aren't even neccessarily needed. But the entire first volume (preludes & nocturnes) demonstrated that if Dream isn't around to do his job everything gets out of control. People entered a never ending sleep or had constant insomnia. So how is it that destruction doesn't require the Endless to manage it, but Dream really IS needed?

Maybe because of the different natures of their functions. Destruction is the end result of other factors. It's an automatic outcome, not something that needs to be watched over. Dreams are an outlet for creativity while we sleep, which is much more complex than destruction.

Alternatively, perhaps Destruction set things in place to ensure the universe could still experience destruction normally without him. He chose to leave, after all. Dream was kidnapped with no forewarning.

I'm not sure about it being the nature of their functions. Destruction was pretty adamant on the notion that any of the Endless could quit, even Dream or Death. And yet Dream thought the idea of Death being imprisoned as was planned in Preludes would be utterly disastrous, as though if any of the Endless fundamentally HAD to do their job it is her. It just screams at me every time I read Brief Lives that why isn't Dream mentioning any of this to his brother? His imprisonment in Preludes is the event in his life that started him on his path to change his character. It's that which ultimately leads him to seeking out Destruction, and it's the proof as to why exactly he needs to carry out his function. Maybe it could therefore be because of the way in which Destruction left of his own accord and planning.

I've read the first four trades, but I stopped because I didn't have the money to buy the fifth at the time. Then I started reading other stuff and just never got back around to 100 Bullets. I'm planning to reread the first trade and then finish out the series once it's complete in a couple months.

I'm going to say that it has to do with them believing in the need for themselves. Dream believed he was necessary and therefore he was. Destruction did not believe he was necessary therefore he wasn't. Kind of a "I think therefore I am" situation.

Hmm, that sounds a lot more in line with Sandman's tone--i.e. abstract and cerebral--than my explanation.

Okay, just got my hands on the first 6 issues of DOC FRANKENSTEIN...
I know, I'm many years late here.

GOOD LORD, what a fantastic title.

ANYONE know when or if this godsend of a comic will continue?

It seems like I'm becoming a full-fledged, unabashed Wachowski nut.

I saw in an interview where Alan Moore said he wanted Watchmen to be the death of superhero comics.
Does he still feel that way?
And why did he (does he) hate superheroes?

He doesn't hate super heroes at all. If he did, he'd never have written Top Ten, Prometha, or Tom Strong, which were intended to be a love letter to American super hero comics. Up until The Watchmen, the vast majority of superhero comics weren't what I'd call literary gold. There were good ones, no question, and even some great ones, but none on the level of The Watchmen, and very few that even got remotely close. He wanted to make people realize that comics can be a lot more than dumb stories about costumes people punching each other. They could actually be about something real. Something important. They could actually say things worth saying. But people ended up just copying the grim and grittiness of The Watchmen with none of the substance, hoping to copy it's success. And he dislikes that much just as much as anything else, from what I gather. As far as I can tell, what he hates isn't super hero comics, it's stupid comics.

This is a big one,

In Madman Atomic Comics #3 Mike Allred draws Madman, Mr. Excitement, Joe, and Astroman, in the style of various artists who have inspired him or who he admires.
Can anyone point out which artist is emulated on which page or which panel of that page?

I know its big. I already know these ones (someone else posted these online):

Winsor McCay

George Herriman

Paul Pope

Frank Quitely

Charles Schulz

Mike Mignola

Chris Ware

I also recognize the tributes to Dave Stevens, Charles Burns, the Hernandez Brothers, Chester Brown, and Dan Clowes, and Charles Addams. And I am pretty sure I know which one is Jack Kirby, Arther Adams, The Matt Groaning, and Bruce Timm.

But can anyone help me figure out the rest, or some of the rest?
