Default Amazing Spider-Man #557

Surprised that no one started this thread yet. Usual rules apply.

So, what's everyone's take on the conclusion of Wells and Bachalo's first arc? Personally, I was very surprised by how much I liked it. I wasn't expecting much from Wells (particularly because I hadn't heard of the guy before), but he really knocked it out of the park--even better than Slott! Which is something I never thought I'd say.

What did everyone else think?

I didn't want to start it early, because I think some people avoid it to avoid spoilers.

I loved it. Bachalo's art was much better than I've come to expect, and actually complemented the story well. And to be honest, I was cringing at the thought of plowing my way through 3 whole issues of his art. My apologies to him, a job well done.

The story, and even moreso the sub-plots, were outstanding. Maybe not the story itself (but I do give it props for surprising me), but the interaction of the characters. I think it may be the best of the three so far...

I liked Bachelo art "better" here.

It was more hit or miss when he did X-men imo.

yeh...i thought personally it got too confusing. I think maybe it was too many people for him to draw?

And a spidey comic is more focused, meaning not multiple heroes in practically every panel. So, yeh, i do kinda like him here tho.

And, the people he was drawing were distinct. I mean, there's no confusing Spidey from Wolvie or Doc Strange. With the x-people, with similar uniforms, and color schemes, they all start to blend together. The only time it got confusing here was in the aztec-ninja battle, and they were basically generic henchman #'s 1,2, and 3 anyway.

Whoa, Wells compeltely caught me offguard with this issue. I personally didnt even like the first two issues, but for some reason part 3 really hit it home. Maybe i got used to it, maybe i was just in a good mood, but i really enjoyed the conclusion. It kinda felt like a story JMS would write.

In my opinion Wells has written the best story for BND. Was nice to see Peter not into clubs and get away from aunt May for a while. I also liked how the story ended. Feels more like the Peter Parker I know.

It was a good story... I knew Wells would be a good fit.

I haven't managed to flip through this issue yet, so I don't really know what happened. I would just like to make one comment, and please don't let it derail the thread (at least not until the next issue comes out).

This arc has been okay so far (not a fan of the art, but it picked up in the second issue). From what I've heard, this seems for most people to be their favorite arc. I find this somewhat odd considering that it focused on a supernatural story/villain (one of the things most people complained about with regards to JMS' run) and had little to do with the "soap opera" of Peter Parker's life, the thing that was supposed to be the main attraction of BND.

Well, like I said, the story itself was alright. It was what they did within it with the characters and advancing the subplots that I enjoyed. The soap opera aspect was advanced through the sub-plots with JJJ, DB, Carlie, Vin.

first off i liked this arc. the first issue turned me off (mainly because of bachalo) but this last issue tied up the story nicely. i welcome wells now- he just needs a better artist with him.

secondly, and im gonna block this question, but what is this i read they're planning to bring back Uncle Ben?!? im sure it wouldn't be the first time in Spidey's history, but the idea is just horrible.

And what did he mean by "I should keep Slott away from Guggenheim."

Those were jokes. Wacker is kind of a jokey guy.

And on that note, it's nice to see him admit his fault in not catching the recurring "Oh noes I'm out of web fluid" plot device.

I'm looking forward to getting back to the Freak story next issue. This "Blizzard" story just seemed awkwardly shoved into the middle of things and didn't really grab me.

I very much enjoyed the story, but I know what you mean. Completely didn't follow all the stories like all of BND has been so far...

Shame really. But I bet his Conner's story will kick ass.

I really don't understand why the Lizard hasn't been used to his full potential for such a long time, aside from having one of the coolest looks in ANY super hero comic, he has a badass backstory too.

You know what actually? I was reading the letters pages to one of my early ditko issues of Spidey, (it was a couple after The Lizard debuted,) and a college student sent in a letter about his adoration of Lizzie as a villain. While that's a bit boring, the interesting part was that it inspired him, (as he was a science student,) to create a Lizard costume for Halloween! He went into mad detail of ripping a labcoat, and creating something that made him look like a human lizard!

College student in the 60's rocked! (And there was free love too, hehe!)

When will stand-alone stories begin? I haven't seen those for a long time.

I'm surrounded by tons of lab coats. (I actually went as a deranged scientist one Halloween) I might have to give that a try.

Gale's next three issues (one in May, two in June) are all stand-alone stories. Also, there's an issue coming out in July that's being written by Slott, Guggenheim, and Gale, which will also be a self-contained story.

Ah, yes!

If you manage to get a hold of an original copy of ASM #32 (part of the super-classic Lee/Ditko "Master Planner" storyline), you not only see Curt Connors the first time after he moves to New York, but in the letters column there's actually a PHOTO of a fan-made Lizard costume! Way back in 1965, Lizzy already had crazy fans!

I picked up this issue yesterday and it truly was action packed! Bachelo's art was great and I just enjoyed the fights and the ending was great. It defenitley was a great run and I'm looking foward to Next moth's Issue's.

Became a fan of Wells' style a while ago. During his last Spidey story I think it was. Not sure which comic or issue, but it involved Spidey being at Spring break and battling the Sandman who had been attacking people at the beach parties.

At first I hated it, didn't really think the zany, off-the-wall style suited Spidey, but its definitely a grower.

I remember that... Maybe that's the ish I was thinking about?

Man, I'd love to go deep into my boxes, but I can't be arsed! I really need to develop an easy access system to my collection
